The Wellness Sustainability Commitment

We recognise that as part of our overarching strategic ambition of becoming South Africa’s leading health and wellness omnichannel retailer, we will continuously be sourcing materials and products from various suppliers, both locally and internationally.

At the same time, our sustainability ambitions are aligned to our purpose, whereby we aspire to enable individual health journeys that have a positive impact on our society’s and employees’ collective wellness, as well as that of our planet.

To this end, our sustainability initiatives aim to go beyond the minimisation and mitigation of any negative environmental impacts of our business and towards achieving positive impacts for the environment and people – our employees, suppliers, and communities. Although we will continue to adhere to all compliance requirements, our approach will go beyond compliance. Our journey to meeting these ambitions is underpinned by a framework that addresses not only our entire value chain (including our employees), but also elements outside of it, to ensure wider positive impacts. We focus on five core themes:

• Establishing an Ethical Value Web

We commit to working with and certifying our suppliers in sourcing ethical raw materials, striving for zero waste to landfill, and where possible, sourcing from local suppliers.

• Setting up a Distribution Hub

We intend to establish a Wellness Warehouse distribution hub with zero carbon logistics and a dedicated recycling centre.

• Providing Circular Retail

We commit to zero negative impact at our stores and will strive for zero waste and zero carbon.

• Promoting Responsible Consumption

We will drive our customer base towards making ethical and responsible purchasing decisions via our product offerings and rewards programme, as well as through our in-store and online communications.

• Nourishing Inclusive Communities

We will play our part in the continuous upliftment of the communities around which we operate and in the improvement of the natural environment in which they are based.

We acknowledge that our move towards circularity is a journey, and that actions will require bold steps and decisions. Our Wellness Warehouse Sustainability Committee will continuously monitor our progress against a set of Key Performance Indicators set in our sustainability framework. Importantly, we will strive to be transparent and authentic in all that we do.
