WELL DONE! Poetry - Red Tail by Marisa Keller

Red Tail by Marisa Keller

They watch

Sometimes with backs turned Scanning the horizon

For dinner

Or disbelievers

Some have feathers ruffled

From a harried dive to the ground

Others smooth and devilish

Red tails slicked back

Like lotharios

What do they think

As they sit silently

On a tightrope

Cars disregarding speed signs

Passersby who don’t look up

Who chooses the highway

Which one picks the country road

I think the hunt a disguise

Reporting a secret plot

Do they follow me

Report my secrets

My thoughts when no one looks

Are they angels or devils who

See beyond their projections

At once taking flight

No warning or destination

Each one so intriguing

Their captivating silence

An enticement of thought

Today I’ll just drive by

Grateful for their feigned malevolence

Like them, watching

My view

the ground up

Marisa Keller lives on a small farm in Wisconsin with her family of four-and-two legged companions. She channeled her writing from an early age into a career in marketing and is now pursuing a deep desire to share and publish her poetry and prose. Her work revolves around nature, animals, love, the aging of friends and families and mostly, the connection it takes for all of those things to truly reveal themselves. Marisa writes because she loves to connect with words. Seeing others connect her words to their own story is gratifying and helps bring people together, even if it is just for those few moments. She is humbled by those cherished moments.
