Guests enter through the formal center hall and view a grand double-parlor on either side. A sunroom and spacious relaxing veranda await as you make your way toward the rear of the house. Take time to browse the gift galleries and stroll the gardens. The grounds boast of plush green lawns, a Formal Garden that blooms with white blossoms in the spring and summer, a Woodland Garden, and an Enchanted Forest for children. A croquet court is located outside the East Kitchen Garden, where players of all ages enjoy the activities. Le Jardin Blanc is a full-service facility, with special offerings including: ■ Lovely gardens suitable for weddings, receptions and special events ■ Beautifully decorated rooms available for bridesmaids luncheons,
rehearsal dinners, showers and more ■ Indoor and outdoor facilities for cocktail receptions, garden clubs,
business meetings, etc. ■ Exquisite teas (reservations only) ■ Croquet court (reservations only; white attire preferred) ■ Garden and interior design services with over 30 years experience ■ Statuary and heirloom plants available ■ Shopping paradise of fine gifts, linens and furnishings for home, baby and garden
Enjoy teatime at Le Jardin Blanc, and taste wonderful blends of tea created especially for this magnificent recipe, including ginger currant scones topped with mock Devonshire crème and lemon curd that will melt in your mouth. You will be showered with royal treatment while you are being served other delectable treats from a three-tiered silver cake server. Beautiful antique china, lovely crisp linens and fresh flowers make tea at Le Jardin Blanc a special occasion. The Poole-Hudson/Farmer House was built ca. 1868 for William Haynes Poole and his bride, Marcella Vansant Poole, the daughter of Reuben Vansant and Flora (Price) Vansant. Dr. Poole was Douglas County’s first medical doctor and was recognized as a superior physician, outranked by few. The slate roof is original, hauled from Rockmart Quarry by two-horse wagons. The framing of the home was constructed with wooden pegs holding together its oversized timbers. The house has thirteen rooms and sits on approximately eleven acres of its original tract. The Vansant cemetery, donated to the City of Douglasville as a Historic Landmark, adjoins the property immediately to the west. The housekeeper/cook’s cottage has been partially restored and stands between the home and the barn. The original smokehouse, as well as the potting shed has also been restored. The home and gardens have been restored and improved by former owners Sandra and Keith Rollins. Susanne Hudson and Jeri Farmer now own the home and property. This historic location houses Le Jardin Blanc (French for “The White Garden”).

Downtown Douglasville’s Commercial Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is filled with specialty restaurants, antique and gift shops. Also of special interest is the “Old Douglas County Courthouse”. This architecturally outstanding 1956 building is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In addition to the listing, the building was also cited as one of the youngest sites to ever appear on the Register. Now, as the project of the Douglas County Tourism and History Commission, the Old Courthouse is being shaped as a Douglas County History and Art Museum as well as a Mid- Twentieth Century Museum. It currently houses the JOCADA Museum of Jazz History, a culturally diverse educational establishment located in the heart of Historic Downtown Douglasville. Le Jardin Blanc is a shopping paradise of fine gifts, linens and furnishings for home, baby and garden with statuary and heirloom plants available. Groups can also experience exquisite teas and a croquet court. The Douglasville/Douglas County Cultural Arts Center serves as the headquarters for cultural activity in the area and is housed in a nineteenth-century structure with Greek- Revival architecture. Sweetwater Creek State Park has over 2,000 acres with Civil War ruins left from Sherman’s march through Georgia in 1864. The Annie Clinton Farms and Nature Preserve is home to the oldest free- standing log structure in the county as well as nature trails.

Museums in Douglasville, Ga In 1998 the Douglas County Board of Commissioners agreed to save the “Old Douglas County Courthouse” building from the wrecking ball and allow the local Tourism and History Commission to refurbish it and adapt it for a new use. The Tourism and History Commission then set about getting the architecturally outstanding 1956 building listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Through long hours and the arduous work of the members of the Tourism and History Commission, the building was awarded that prestigious national honor in the fall of 2002. In addition to the listing, the building was also cited as one of the youngest sites to ever appear on the Register. Now, as the project of the Douglas County Tourism and History Commission, the Old Courthouse is being shaped as a Douglas County History and Art Museum as well as a Mid-Twentieth Century Museum. It currently houses the JOCADA Museum of Jazz History, a culturally-diverse educational establishment located in the heart of Historic Downtown Douglasville. The JOCADA takes visitors a magnificent journey that dates back to the 1900’s. Big Band, Swing and Bebop took the world by storm during the vibrant years of the Harlem Renaissance in the 1920’s. It was a time when the most popular Jazz artists found fame and fortune; many careers prospered then. Today, Jazz is an endangered art form where the need to preserve and educate the community is vital to its continued existence. The JOCODA Museum of Jazz History is a rare exquisite exhibit of paintings, photos, biographies and memorabilia that reflect the 1900’s Jazz era. Its setting is uniquely designed to put visitors in mind of the Jazz era with sounds ringing in the neighborhood, where one could hear jazz echoing at famous venues, like the Cotton Club or the Savoy Lounge, that frequently booked Jazz acts. While on this museum journey, JOCADA takes visitors down memory lane to these venues and to the legends that paved the way for Jazz artists today. Atlanta birthed many Jazz legends like Fletcher Henderson, William Coates, Duke Pearson, George Adams, Marlon Brown, Willie Wilson, Thomas Howard, Paul Mitchell, Waymon Carver, Fred Jackson, Laymon Jackson, Mason Johnson, Conductor John Peek and Professor James H. Patterson, to name a few. Tours are set by appointment. Please contact the Douglasville Convention and Visitors Bureau at 1-800-661-0013.
