Here, Andersen Casement Windows provide views of the surrounding areas. “I love how easy they are to open and close and that the screens are easy to remove and handle for cleaning—none of those bulky screens of old that end up tearing because they are so big and you have to screw and unscrew them,” the wife says. “Even the rolling screens for the doors are fantastic,” she exclaims, “If we don’t want the screen, it disappears from view and

Oriental Sensibilities East meets west in this Asian-inspired dwelling
M
odernization has brought about the fusion of east and west, providing us a glimpse into various cultures and traditions very much different from our own. Almost everything from fashion
and food to design and style has undergone some form of change. Selfawareness has led us to translate and reinterpret things that appeal to us, allowing us to take what’s relevant and discard those not aligned with our personal tastes and preferences. More importantly, advancements in technology have helped us come up with new means of making life even more meaningful and enjoyable. In the case of this home, a marked inclination towards Singapor-
ean architecture and Chinese furniture led the owner to create a dwelling characterized by well-designed spaces that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. While the house would not look out of place in another Asian country, it looks right at home in the exclusive residential enclave where it is situated.

“We lived in Singapore for a while and I was inspired by some of the beautiful houses and shop houses we saw,” recounts interior designer Tisa Santos. She created a home characterized by wide open areas filled with Asian treasures for her husband and four children. Expansive windows, high ceilings and graceful furnishings contribute to the luxurious feel of the house. The living area, separated from the entry by a change in elevation, leads to the lanai surrounded by a lush garden. Plush rugs, verdant greens and singular décor further the Oriental ambience of the space. To the right of the foyer is the den, which features comfy, outsized seating combined with colorful furnishings. Casting a soft golden glow to the entire setting are warm wood floors that further the appeal of this home. Finished with BONA Mega Silk Matt, the floors retain their inviting wood grains and natural color. BONA, a global leader in water-borne finishes for wood floors, is the pioneer of the ‘Environmental Choice’ Finishing System. The unique dustless sanding system is made possible through specialized equipment that works in combination with the professional application of the non-toxic water-based polyurethane finish that leaves no
harmful fumes or residues. Instead of applying expensive waxes to clean wood floors, one only needs a damp mop or rag to maintain floors finished with BONA. “I believe in using products with good quality—something that will last longer and give me less headaches with maintenance later on,” says Tisa, “I found out about the product from a friend who used it in her home. I had complemented her on how beautiful the finish of her floor was.” By staying true to her personal style and investing in products that will keep her home beautiful in the years to come, Tisa and her family can now enjoy living in a singular home that meets their needs and complements their lifestyle. “Asked about the outcome of her house, she contentedly replies, “It’s just exactly the way I wanted it—neat, beautiful, clean and cozy.”

Modern Masterpiece Giving space a shot of style
M
assive and imposing, this grand dwelling pays homage to modernism through form and construction. A sense of scale is immediately established upon setting eyes on the towering double
doors that open up to a foyer punctuated with sleek lines and planes. Here, polished granite floors enclose shiny brass accents while textured natural stones rise up to meet plain white walls. The play of surfaces and materials make for a space that genuinely awes and inspires at the same time. Designed by architect Jorge Yulo, this home features double height ceilings, outsized furnishings and innovative compositions that further the progressive feel of the spaces. To the left of the foyer are Andersen Narro-
line Gliding Patio Doors with custom grills that open out to a terrace looking down on rows of bamboo and a lengthy pool that leads to the back of the property. Floor to ceiling glass windows provide partial views into the spacious living area, where a grand piano and a portrait of the master of the house hold court. Minimal furnishings together with opulent wood floors

finished in BONA Mega Matt exude a sense of quiet luxury in this space, while bright shots of color are provided by a series of abstract artwork that grace the far wall. The entertainment room, which is done in deeper browns and grays, is located in one corner of the house. A glass center table creates a sense of transparency and openness, effectively balancing the solid appearance of the large sectional sofa. Plush textures and simple forms refine the space. Accessible from the living area is the dining room centered by a large dining table surrounded by sixteen straight back chairs. Wood framed windows provide views of the outdoors, echoing the linear forms of the furniture and the unique design of the ceiling. Honey-colored floors that replicate the rich hue of the table serve to ground the entire space. While modern houses may seem cold and stark due to limited furnishings and décor, this home manages to convey a sense of comfort through open spaces that seamlessly flow into each other. The layout successfully marries form with function, combining efficient space planning with a high dose of style.

The different rooms all enjoy fresh breezes and sunlight through the different types of Andersen Windows that were intelligently located to maximize views while letting the house stay true to its design style. “Andersen Windows have a slim profile outside that provides a homey feeling inside because of its wooden material,” the architect notes, “It also has argon gas with low-E coating that maintains the cool temperature inside. As for BONA, it protects the wood and preserves its natural texture. The quality and profile of Andersen Windows and BONA helped improve the look of both the interior and exterior design of the house.” While others may opt for simplicity and sleekness, there are those who
