An opera full of poignancy and exquisite sensitivity to the nuances of growing up and wrestling to understand your emotions, Eugene Onegin is an exploration of a young girl’s awakening passion, her rejection by the aloof Onegin and her ultimate choice of honour over true love is far more intimate in tone than the archetypal grand Russian opera. Director Kasper Holten describes the opera as ‘full of poetry and melancholy, encapsulating the fragile and turbulent emotions of youth, self-realization and finally the yearning to go back and undo what cannot be undone’.
NT Live Presents: People a new play by Alan Bennett Thursday 21 March 7pm
Award-winning writer Alan Bennett is reunited with director Nicholas Hytner to bring a new play to the National Theatre. People spoil things; there are so many of them and the last thing one wants is them traipsing through one’s house. But with the park a jungle and a bath on the billiard table, what is one to do? Dorothy (Frances de la Tour) wonders if an attic sale could be a solution. Alan Bennett is one of Britain’s most celebrated playwrights, and the much anticipated People is the sixth of his plays to be premiered at the National Theatre.

This magical ballet brings to life Lewis Carroll’s menagerie of colourful characters including a twitchy White Rabbit, a tap dancing Mad Hatter, a sinuous caterpillar and so many more. Alice and the Knave of Hearts, deftly danced by Royal Ballet Principal dancers, are at the centre of the story, along with the comically rendered Queen of Hearts. A brilliantly imagined show with a magical score, inventive designs and a wealth of theatrical effects. A great Easter treat!
Thursday 10th January – Tuesday 19th February Monday – Saturday 10am-4pm An ambitious undertaking and initiative of local artist Sarah Evans, “pART of Wem” was designed to bring people together to create one large scale artwork, but whilst everyone worked on their own individual designs no one knew what overall image would be revealed. Over 200 people have been involved in the creative community project including professional artists, adults, young people, children and even babies! Each panel tells its own story and showcases the talents of local people. This large-scale work should be appreciated first hand and visitors can also enjoy a related exhibition, explain how the project came together.
