Friday 9 November, 8pm Tide Lines are a four piece band from Scotland who are heavily influenced by the traditional music of the West Highlands and Islands, but whose highly eclectic sound is driven by acoustic and electric guitars, with drums and keyboards. Their first single, “Far Side of the World”, entered the UK download charts ahead of popular tracks by Coldplay and Beyonce, as well as Adele’s “Hello”. Shropshire Music Trust: A4 Brass Quartet
Friday 15 February, 7.30pm Award winning A4 Brass Quartet are one of the UK’s leading young chamber ensembles. Based at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, A4 Brass is comprised of principal players from some of the UK’s leading brass bands, including the world famous Grimethorpe Colliery and Foden’s bands. The quartet has a unique blend of instruments, with a cornet, tenor horn, baritone and euphonium creating a distinctive sound that stands out from the standard brass quartet. The Importance of Being Earnest (12A TBC)

Wilde’s much-loved masterpiece throws love, logic and language into the air to make one of theatre’s most dazzling firework displays. Jack, Algy, Gwendolyn and Cecily discover how unsmooth runs the course of true love, while Lady Bracknell keeps a baleful eye on the mayhem of manners. This is the fourth and final play from the Oscar Wilde Season, a year-long celebration of the brilliant Victorian playwright being staged by the Classic Spring Theatre Company.

Monday 15 October, 7.15pm (3 hours 15 minutes, including 2 intervals) Dangerous desires, family secrets and political intrigues twist through every moment of daring choreography in Kenneth Macmillan’s ballet inspired by true events. Mayerling is a classic of the Royal Ballet repertory, with its emotional depth, haunting imagery, and one of the most demanding roles ever created for a male dancer. Kenneth MacMillan choreographed a complex work around the psychologically tormented heir to the Habsburg Empire, Crown Prince Rudolf. From the ballet’s start, the glamour of the Austro-Hungarian court is contrasted with undercurrents of sexual and political intrigue that drive the story to its violent climax in a double suicide.

Sunday 28 October 2018, 5pm (4 hours 50 minutes, including two intervals) Antonio Pappano conducts an international cast in the second opera of Richard Wagner’s epic Der Ring des Nibelungen. Wagner’s Ring Cycle is one of the greatest works of all opera. Die Walküre (The Valkyrie) is the second opera in the cycle, and features several of the Ring’s musical highlights – the sparkling Magic Fire Music and the electrifying Ride of the Valkyries. But among the musical fireworks and Norse mythology, at the centre of this opera are the unforgettable characters and the complex entanglements between them, including twins Siegmund and Sieglinde, and Wotan and his Valkyrie daughter, Brünnhilde. Sung in German with English surtitles
Alan Bennett’s sharp and hilarious new play is ‘just what the doctor ordered’ (Daily Telegraph). Filmed live at London’s Bridge Theatre during its limited run, don’t miss this ‘rousing chorus line for the NHS’ (Observer). The Beth, an old fashioned cradle-to-grave hospital serving a town on the edge of the Pennines, is threatened with closure as part of an efficiency drive. A documentary crew, eager to capture its fight for survival, follows the daily struggle to find beds on the Dusty Springfield Geriatric Ward, and the triumphs of the old people’s choir. Alan Bennett’s celebrated plays include The History Boys, The Lady in the Van and The Madness of George III, all of which were also seen on film.

Exhibition On Screen: Degas, Passion for Perfection
Thursday 15 November, 7pm (1 hour 25 minutes) Sometimes frustrated by his own failings, Degas was consumed by obsessive principles and failing eye sight but his determination to capture everyday life was evident in every mark he made. Never fully satisfied, many of Degas’ drawings and sculptures were kept in private during his lifetime but, now through close examination, they can be seen as some of the most beautifully detailed and expressive works in the modern era.

Set in 1860s Bangkok, the musical tells the story of the unconventional and tempestuous relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna, a British schoolteacher whom the modernist King, in an imperialistic world, brings to Siam to teach his many wives and children. But at the fringes of a war-torn empire the Egyptian Queen Cleopatra and Mark Antony have fallen fiercely in love. In a tragic fight between devotion and duty, obsession becomes a catalyst for war. MediaActive is developing a new strand of cinema experiences at WTH and further afield, bringing together archive film screenings with live music performances and newly composed soundtracks. If you are a musician, film fan, or both, and would like to get involved in this new exciting programme, please get in touch.
Creative Conversations
Creative Conversations, led by Arts Alive and MediaActive, is a three year partnership development that links experienced agencies for arts, health and social care, and aims to establish new opportunities for people, aged 55 and over, to get creative. Activity will take place in arts and community venues, in day centres and care homes, and is open to individuals, community groups, and interested organisations. MediaActive are particularly keen to hear from anyone, aged 55 and over, who is interested in having a play, developing skills and ideas, through the use of creative media tools and techniques. Opportunities range from filmmaking and animation, photography and sound recording, to creative use of an iPad, and 3D printing. Relaxed Screenings
Our 11am screenings of family films are relaxed screenings. Relaxed screenings will have lights left on at a low level, a more comfortable sound level and no trailers before the film. These screenings are Autism Friendly and perfect for younger children.

Drawing on her experiences of heartbreak, she creates ‘Frankenstein’, a work that will shape the literary world for centuries.

Shropshire WW1 Film Festival: Lawrence of Arabia (PG)
