Reptile Roadshow

Monday 6 August, 11am (Approx 1 hour) Following hugely successful shows in 2015 and 2017, we’re welcoming back Simon Airey and his furry friends! Rather than let this get her down, she decides to make the most of her “underemployment”. Hilarity ensues, with jazzy tunes, co-worker showdowns, life lessons and even a bit of romance. Friday 9 November, 8pm Tide Lines are a four piece band from Scotland who are heavily influenced by the traditional music of the West Highlands. Gallery Wem Train Station: 160 Year Anniversary Thursday 30 August - Thursday 13 September On August 29 1858, the London and North Western Railway Company began to operate trains on their newly-built line between Shrewsbury and Crewe. Since then Wem station has had many roles including when it was the local station for American servicemen and end of the line for evacuee children from Liverpool.

MediaActive Presents: Eyewitness Champions of Flight Thursday 20 September – Thursday 25 October An array of artworks made by 80 young people aged 10 to 22 years about the history of the air services during and after World War I, and the birth of the RAF in 1918, using a variety of approaches including film and animation.


MediaActive Projects Based at Wem Town Hall, MediaActive works with local people of all ages on a wide range of creative projects and productions, including film and animation. BFI Film Academy

MediaActive is part of the UK wide BFI Film Academy network which includes BAFTA, Pinewood and the National Film and Television School. Each year, films made by our young filmmakers are nominated for national awards and selected for festivals, whilst participants have gone on to industry mentoring, placements and employment with world class companies, including BBC, Lucas Films and Disney! Academy participants, aged 16 to 19, work with MediaActive and alongside award winning filmmakers and animators, to develop their filmmaking knowledge and skills whilst making short films, and achieving a qualification. The Academy runs in October and November each year, and places are always oversubscribed. Bursaries and travel costs are available. Interested? Aged 16 to 19? APPLY NOW! Creative Conversations

Creative Conversations, led by Arts Alive and MediaActive, is a three year partnership development that links experienced agencies for arts, health and social care, and aims to establish new opportunities for people, aged 55 and over, to get creative. Activity will take place in arts and community venues, in day centres and care homes, and is open to individuals, community groups, and interested organisations. MediaActive are particularly keen to hear from anyone, aged 55 and over, who is interested in having a play, developing skills and ideas, through the use of creative media tools and techniques. Opportunities range from filmmaking and animation, photography and sound recording, to creative use of an iPad, and 3D printing. You may want to develop your own creative work, or acquire new skills that you can share with others. If you want to find out more, please contact richard@mediaactive.org

ANIM18 is a national celebration of British Animation - past, present and future - taking place across the UK until November 2018. Well, let us tell you… You have the opportunity to see world-class theatre, music, dance and exhibitions at the WTH Cinema. The picture and sound quality is amazing. National Theatre Live: Julie (15)

Thursday 6 September, 7pm (2 hours approximately) Wild and newly single, Julie (Vanessa Kirby The Crown) throws a late night party. In the kitchen, Jean and Kristina clean up as the celebration heaves above them. Crossing the threshold, Julie initiates a power game with Jean – which rapidly descends into a savage fight for survival. This new version of August Strinberg’s play Miss Julie, written by Polly Stenham, remains shocking and fiercely relevant in its new setting of contemporary London. Please note: Julie will contain strobe lighting.


National Theatre Live: King Lear (12A)

FILM Film Screenings

Unless stated, all films are priced at £7 Adults, £6 Friends and £5 for 19’s and under. 3D Films are priced at £8.50 Adults, £7.50 Friends and £6.50 for 19’s and under. At time of going to print some film ratings and timings are to be confirmed and may be subject to change.

Audio Aids

Infra Red enhanced hearing headsets are available to amplify sound for hard of hearing patrons. They can be worn with or without a hearing aid. Please call 01939 232299 to book your headset.

Relaxed Screenings

Our 11am screenings of family films are relaxed screenings. Relaxed screenings will have lights left on at a low level, a more comfortable sound level and no trailers before the film. These screenings are Autism Friendly and perfect for younger children.

Britain On Film: Railways (U)

Sourced from the national and regional archives, Britain on Film: Railways is an immensely nostalgic and evocative collection of films which document not just the glories of the railway, but also the changing climates of the 20th century. DEMENTIA FRIENDLY FILM Dementia Friendly Film Showings September to November

Wem Town Hall is proud to be offering access to the arts for dementia and memory loss sufferers. Dementia Friendly Showings are open to all but will be more relaxed, with lights on and sound level low with specially trained ushers on hand to assist. All timings include a 20 minute interval with refreshments! Interactive Singing sessions for People with Dementia Monday 17 September, 1.30pm ( 1 hour 30 minutes including interval) Join local musician Adrian Plant for relaxed, fun and interactive singing sessions featuring classic and popular songs from throughout the 20th century!
