Wem Town Hall Spring - Summer 2016 Hello and Welcome
The sun is shining and summer is just round the corner and we are thoroughly excited about the fantastic cinema, live music, theatre and big screen events on offer this season! We have a fun filled programme to keep your little ones entertained during the summer holidays. Be enthralled by a live puppet theatre in a tent, experience some of the biggest movies of the year such as Secret Life of Pets and Kung Fu Panda 3, go on a wild adventure with Zac’s Wild Encounters and meet an exotic collection of animals or be blown away by magical mysteries with Picklelilly Circus. This summer is not all about the children, we have plenty to keep the adults entertained as well! Put the trowels down and take a well earned break from gardening with foot-tapping live music by folk stars Jess Morgan and Gren Bartley band, get swept away with epic romance in Kenneth Branagh’s Romeo and Juliet, grip the edge of your seat with the heartfelt tale of Eddie the Eagle, be uplifted by Marguerite the wanna-be opera singer who can’t hold a tune or be utterly thrilled by spy romance Despite the Falling Snow. Shropshire Music Trust: Papagena
Friday 20 May, 7.30pm A cappella quintet Papagena will delight you with a diverse musical cocktail of medieval, classical, folk, jazz and more contemporary items. Their voices have a beautiful purity about them which drift over you as they take you on a musical journey. All the members of Papagena have performed with some of the UK’s leading vocal groups including The Sixteen, Tenebrae and Ex Cathedra. The programme they present draws richly on traditional folk, women’s working songs and lullabies from around the world contrasting with more classical pieces. Animals In Action With Zac’s Wild Encounters
Wednesday 17 August, 11am Go on a wild adventure and meet exotic animals, including free flying parrots and birds of prey! The show includes a selection of exotic mammals including the UK's only friendly Palawan Binturong (not sure what a Palawan Binturong is? The Railway Children (U)

Imaginative, Olivier award-winning stage adaptation of the much cherished The Railway Children. Filmed from the National Railway Museum in York, featuring moving platforms, props, rail carts and the original locomotive from the much-loved 1970 film! The Railway Children follows the story of Roberta (Bobbie), Phyllis and Peter, siblings who suffer a huge upheaval when their father is taken away and falsely imprisoned. The children and their mother, now penniless, are forced to move from London to rural Yorkshire near a railway line, turning their lives upside down.

Friday 10 June, 7.30pm (3hours including interval) For sixty years, Queen Elizabeth II has met with each of her twelve Prime Ministers in a private weekly meeting. This meeting is known as The Audience. No one knows what they discuss, not even their spouses. From the old warrior Winston Churchill, to the Iron Lady Margaret Thatcher, Tony Blair right up to today’s meetings with the current incumbent David Cameron, the Queen advises her Prime Ministers on all matters both public and personal. Through these private audiences, we see glimpses of the woman behind the crown and witness the moments that shaped a monarch.

Wem War Memorial Restoration
Thursday 18 August – Wednesday 7 September In the 1980s and early 1990s Wem Civic Society initiated and co-ordinated the raising of money to develop and upgrade the area around the Wem War Memorial. Find out all about the project and discover the plans for the future.

An initiative of MediaActive and Wem Town Hall, Adventures seeks to engage young people in specialised film; broadening the horizons of tomorrow’s filmmakers, commissioners and audiences. Look out for the Adventures logo in this brochure for films selected by Young Programmers.
Dementia Friendly Screenings
Wem Town Hall is proud to be participating in a pilot scheme to offer access to the arts for dementia and memory loss sufferers. Dementia Friendly Screenings are open to all but will be more relaxed, with lights on and sound level low with specially trained ushers on hand to assist. Screenings will have an interval and ticket price includes a tea or coffee. Tickets £4.
