Button up
Winterfest Buttons are your ticket to fun What can that little square button do? A lot. Buttons are your all-access pass to Winterfest fun, including over 40 amazing offers at local restaurants, boutiques and wineries in the Lake Chelan Valley. For just $5, your Winterfest button grants you hassle-free access to activities like the Ice Bar and rides in a horse-drawn carriage. Plus, save some dough at one of the dozens of shops offering discounts on food, clothes, toys and other goods to button-holders. Buy a ticket to certain Winterfest events, like the Wine Walks and the Alefest, and organizers will throw in a Winterfest Button for free. Button or no button, you’ll have no trouble keeping busy both weekends of the festival. Between a lineup of local tunes, a wide assortment of wine and beer to keep spirits high, and visual spectacles like the ice sculptures and fireworks show, there’s plenty to see and do. Many of the attractions are free, but the button grants you access to those that aren’t, and it supports the community! Profits from Winterfest Buttons go directly to local programs. So bundle up and grab a button. Purchase buttons at the Welcome Tents or at LakeChelan. com.

Join us for the wonder of Winterfest 2017 Welcome to the annual two-weekend party we call Winterfest! Hosted by the Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce and presented by Sage Vacation Rentals, it’s a celebration of snow, ice and the wonder of winter in a small town. Most of the festival activities take place around historic downtown Chelan the first weekend (Jan. 13-15). The next weekend (Jan. 20-22), the party moves up the road to beautiful Manson. Throughout the festival, sample local wine, beer and food from the very best Chelan and Manson restaurants. Take a horse-drawn carriage ride along the river. inemaking begins in the vineyards, our minimalistic approach and sustainable practice is our commitment from grape to glass. It’s all about Lake Chelan. What you taste at our winery is grown right outside the doors. It is representative of the surroundings. The pristine glacial water of the Cascade Range combined with volcanic and glacial soils mingle with high desert Eastern Washington climate to create what is in the glass of Tsillan Cellars Wines. Through clean and sound winemaking I want to preserve the flavors of our region. When you enjoy our wines away from the winery it is my goal to have them bring you right back to Chelan with all your senses. – Shane Collins, Winemaker Tsillan Cellars
2015 Estate Chardonnay Brilliant golden straw in color, our Chardonnay is the traditional style of Sur Lie oak aging in 66% new French oak. Awards: Seattle Wine Awards Double Gold Medal, Indy International Wine Competition - Gold Medal
2013 Estate Malbec Dark purple in color with aromas of anise, plum, truffles with a hint of black pepper. On the palate ripe flavors of blackberry, black currant, dark cherries and a hint of violet come together in an excellent example of South Shore Malbec. Pair with pork shoulder, duck sliders and dark meat chicken. (245 cases, 14.6 alc.) A festival of fire and ice Fire On cold winter nights, few things sound better than curling up next to the gentle glow of a fire. From the quiet magic of wish lanterns to an impressive flaming tower of ice, Winterfest sparks our imagination with fire. Here are some of the festivals hottest events: Wish Lanterns:Â Think of a wish lantern as a very small, biodegradable hot air balloon. Festival-goers of all ages can purchase one of the paper-tissue lanterns and write their wish on it. Once their wish is made, the lantern is
FIRE AND ICE
FIRE AND ICE
lit, and the heat causes the lantern to rise into the cold winter air. When the sky fills with hundreds of these glowing lanterns, the effect is stunning. The lanterns will be lit in Manson at 6 p.m. Jan. 21. You may pick up your lantern on Jan. 20 at the Chamber office. Ice Tower Lighting: This one is more chimney than tower — a chimney carved out of 3,000 pounds of solid ice, that is. After you send your wish lantern up into the heavens on Jan. 21, stick around Manson Bay Marina to watch as wood is loaded into the ice tower and ignited. The result is a mesmerizing display of firelight through a crystalline sheen of ice. The tower lights up at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 21. Fireworks: Don Morse Park is the place to be on Saturday night, Jan. 14. At 6:30 p.m., the beach bonfire will be lit. At 6:45 p.m., the night sky will be illuminated by a brilliant fireworks show.
Ice
Baby, it’s cold outside. Celebrate the frosty season with these cool Winterfest events: Ice Block Carvings: Each Winterfest, artists turn 45,000 pounds of ice into beautiful sculptures. And you can watch it all happen. Check out the carvers in action in downtown Chelan on Jan. 13-14, and in downtown Manson on Jan. 21. Ice Slide: Kids will love this 20-foot-long slide, carved out of 12,000 pounds of ice. And adults get a kick out of it too, as long as they’re willing to brave a cold bottom. Ice Bar: The bartenders at the famous Winterfest ice bar will serve up Lake Chelan Valley wines, ciders and craft beers. Plus, the bar hosts live music Friday and Saturday nights.
