lex Haley first performed stand-up comedy as a sixth-grader. Not at one of those classic middle school talent shows, but rather at the front of his home room class for five minutes, an opportunity given to him by his exhausted teacher who was promised silence from Haley for the rest of the class in exchange for the gig.
Haley has a degree in marketing and works with event promotion, PR, sales, writing, and DJing. However, he has an undeniably large passion for comedy, which is without a doubt infused in his business. He says that the best feeling comes from an audience laughing at a joke he wrote. “Conversely, silence after a joke will tear you down your core and make you feel like an adolescent who just got pantsed in gym class,” he joked.
Now, Haley is the owner of LAPH Productions, a group that specializes in humor. “LAPH Productions came about when we were producing our first comedy festival in Wenatchee in 2013. We wanted a brand that could take on a bigger role inside and outside of the community,” he said. At LAPH, the goal is to “always produce a show that people walk away from happy.”
This summer, Haley has teamed up with Campbell’s Resort to create a summer concert series, with the first performance being on July 8. When it came to working with Campbell’s, Haley said they were the perfect choice. “They’re willing to try new things and are always interested in maximizing their guests experience at the resort. I knew they would put the best effort into making the shows a success.

Liz Donehue grew up in Seattle, where she realized she wanted to do more with her Creative Writing degree than sleep on her mom’s couch and watch reruns of Ghost Adventures. After relocating to Minneapolis in 2011, she began shaping her edgy and assertive style of comedy at Acme Comedy Company and the Comedy Corner Underground. One year after stepping on stage for the first time, Liz was voted a finalist in the “Funniest Person in the Twin Cities” contest for her sharp, percipient humor and clever writing.

The instructor also specializes in the arts and says that both yoga and art are “a practice which is a relief.” Chanting is another popular hobby for her. “Using the voice, just like the body, gives space for expression and is unique to each and everyone of us. The health benefits are right up there with meditation, but let’s face it, it’s just soul-lifting,” she said. Carlson began working at Fielding Hills after mentioning her popular Sip ‘n Paint business to her dog sitter, whose mother is Karen Wade, the Fielding Hills owner. Carlson connected with Wade and “from there it’s all a little bit of a fairy-tale.” The yogi now
In Carlson’s classes, there are not “can’t”’s. “Yoga is for everyone, just like art. Folks will say ‘I can’t do yoga’ or ‘I’m not artsy’. If you can breathe or hold a paint brush, you can do either or both...maybe at the same time,” she said. As for the Fielding Hills environment, Carlson says it’s “a well-thought-out, warm, sophisticated, welcoming space backed by a down-to-earth family who offers these fabulous and exceptional wines.” She says the crew is a rarity, a close-knit group “who sometimes have to make faces at one another or rib each other, but it’s all in fun.” Carlson says she’s staying in the present and will continue to take in all that Chelan has to offer. When asked what she loves about Chelan, she said “Hovering over the lake in balance poses gazing out over the water, the friendliness of the wine community, passionate store owners, great food & fun finds in town. I could go on.”

Lake Chelan Bach Fest are put on by universities or institutions, she said. Many events are free with donations accepted, said Travers, but some events do cost. A season pass can be purchased for $67 to go to all of the Bach Fest events. Tickets can also be purchased at the door. To purchase tickets for individual events, go to the Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce’s office at 216 E Woodin Ave., Chelan or visit bachfest.org. Many of the musicians come from all over the country to perform, and several of the performancegoers flock to Chelan from all over the state, Travers said. “Live music is a whole different thing than listening to something in a recording,” Travers

said. “It’s exciting to see people actually playing the music.” When musicians come to town, they stay with host families in the Chelan area. They only have a few days to rehearse their music with the full orchestra prior to performing during the festival, Travers said. The Pops in the Park concert, the final concert of the series, is free and overlooks the river. Bring a blanket and lawn chair to watch the show. Festival organizers want Bach Fest-goers to “friend-raise” this year and bring a friend to any festival event. “Live music provides a community that we don’t really have anymore,” Travers said. “It’s quality. Our quality in the last 10 years has really excelled.”
