WENDOVER HS2

In the absence of support from the Department for Transport for our preferred solution – the Mined Tunnel - we continue to push HS2 Ltd, the DfT and the nominated contractor, EKFB (Eiffage Kier Ferrovial BAM JV), for enforceable assurances regarding three urgent issues: noise, the impact of the green tunnel on the aquifer and potential traffic congestion in future years on the A413.

Because the final design of the line around Wendover has NOT been agreed – yet preparatory work has already begun – we maintain that potential mitigation measures need to be designed in now in anticipation of their future utilisation. It will be too late to make those changes after the line has been built.

As separately reported on the front page and page 14, fusion-jv have discovered an ancient wooden "henge" near the proposed HS2 line at Wellwick Farm which is of considerable interest to Heritage England. With the recent halt to discussions about improving the A303 near Stonehenge, is there any hope that Heritage England could change HS2's plans and protect our henge by mining a tunnel underneath it??

Questions are also being asked by Wendover residents about the future wherabouts of all the archaeological finds.
