HS2 Enablement continues

Following last month’s revelations of the wooden “henge” near the bypass, the HS2 Archaeologists have been moving south and are now working in the field by Bacombe Lane. They are expected to be there until September, and Fusion have also announced the next set of digs at Grove Farm. That site is where Balfour Beatty have been based while undertaking the National Grid pylon changes. They have completed the installation of three huge towers to enable the circuits to pass safely over the top of the railway at the Small Dean Embankment and the North Cutting near Nash Lee Road. Fusion are also undertaking roadworks on the A413 to enable the volume of construction traffic to be handled safely. In

addition to the junctions on the Amersham bypass and at Great Missenden; the Small Dean roundabout is to be widened allowing better access for lorries building the viaduct and construction compounds. This work is on behalf of Buckinghamshire Council who secured a number of “Assurances” from HS2 that the construction traffic would only use well defined routes, that extra traffic cameras would be provided locally, and that traffic could be monitored on the “hill-top” routes that might be used as rat runs to avoid congestion on the A413. The HS2 trucks are expected to be GPS tracked so that any complaints can be investigated; and this should be confirmed in the Local Traffic Management Plan that is still being developed. We await its publication…

Farewell from Dr Charles Todd

It is with very mixed feelings that I am retiring as a partner. I have worked continuously since I qualified as a doctor in 1977, and I feel the time has come to step back and spend more time on other activities and with my wife and family. I am not hanging up my stethoscope altogether, and I will continue to do some locum and sessional work locally. I came to Wendover in 2005, after working for 22 years overseas, mostly in Zimbabwe. I felt very welcome from the outset and have gained so much from my time working at the Health Centre. I would like to thank my partners, all the staff of Westongrove and the Wendover community for their support over the past 15 years. Wendover News September 2020
