CLIMATE ACTION WENDOVER
Plant a Tree!
Tree Planting Season is here!
The contribution of trees to reducing climate change is not limited to tropical rainforests: we need to act locally as well as think globally. Tree planting can play a part in reducing the effects of climate change as well as increasing biodiversity and as we have seen recently, help with the effects of increasingly hot summers. CLAW is working with the Parish Council and with Buckinghamshire Council to increase tree cover in Hampden Meadow and Walnut Tree Meadow.
When it comes to trees, it’s as easy as ABC:
A ambience B biodiversity C carbon reduction
We are now looking at spaces such as verges and street corners where modest but important additional planting is possible. Please help us identify spaces where small scale planting might be suitable – the easiest way for us to track this is using the what3words app (see their website here https:// what3words.com) load this on your mobile device and send us the reference. It identifies a 3m x 3m square, unique in the world – and by the way, emergency services use this to find lost or injured people! If you can’t use the app, then please send very precise location details to climateactionwendover@gmail.com.
With tree planting ‘season’ between November and March, we can all make a difference from now on in both private and public spaces. Low cost native trees and advice are available from the Woodland Trust www.woodlandtrust.org.uk.

So, remember the PLAN for trees: P: Personal – plant a tree (or even a few!) in your own garden or land that you own L: Local – green space, verges / street corners. With permission of the landowner/ highway authority A: Arboriculture – “farmed trees”, with landowner commitment N: Net zero – we don’t have enough space locally, but we can “offset” by paying for trees elsewhere in Bucks
