WENDOVER DEMENTIA ALLIANCE

Wendover Dementia Action Alliance (WDAA) tel 07394 669784

Wendover Dementia Support ( WDS) has had to put their popular Monday Club Cafe on hold during the pandemic but they are still providing support for 42 local people living with dementia and their families, with 12 new referrals since March. They received a Community Award for their work during the first lockdown. People with dementia, their family and carers have found life extremely challenging during this pandemic with closure of the most of the weekly activities and support structures that are so essential to them. Living with or caring for someone with dementia can be very demanding and the lockdowns have significantly increased the mental strain, isolation and loneliness.

WDS provides friendship with regular phone calls, doorstep visits and newsletters. They also help with daily activities like walking and golf and provide resources such as jigsaws, knitting and music systems. Specially trained volunteers provide information about accessing services and benefits and offer home visits to advise families about positive ways of caring for people with dementia that promotes a sense of well-being.
