Is there a connection between the pandemic and trauma?

Trauma is a Greek word for wound. Coping with the trauma of a natural or manmade disaster can present unique challenges for us all.

Emotional and psychological trauma is the result of extraordinarily stressful events that shatter your sense of security, making you feel helpless in a dangerous world. Trauma can leave you struggling with upsetting emotions, memories, and anxiety that won’t go away. It may also leave you feeling numb, disconnected, and unable to trust other people.

It’s not the objective circumstances that determine whether an event is traumatic, but your subjective emotional experience of the event. The more frightened and helpless you feel, the more likely you are to be traumatized.

I believe that at the heart of philosophy is compassion, which starts with yourself. How can you heal if you can’t be kind to yourself? Being willing to heal is the first step. The desire to feel better is your best ally on the road to recovery. These ideas can be a good start: •Accept support from loved ones •Practice meditation and mindfulness •Stand in sunlight, barefooted, outside and take in the calm of the natural world •Incorporate movement into your daily routine •Try to maintain a routine •Seek the assistance of trained professionals

Whatever the cause of your trauma, and whether it happened years ago or yesterday, Counselling can help you make healing changes, moving forward with your life with a healthier, happier perspective.
