Tackling Climate Change

The UK is hosting the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow from 31 October – 12 November 2021. The summit will bring parties together, uniting the world to tackle climate change and accelerate action to reach net zero.

The good news is that the race to zero is already underway and the UK is leading the way. We were the first country to pledge to reduce carbon emissions by 78% by 2035 as coal power is phased out by 2024 and the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles by 2030. The UK is also the biggest producer of offshore wind energy in the world, and we are planting trees on 30,000 hectares of land per year by 2025.

To listen, learn and celebrate climate action join the COP 26 Green Zone events and workshops virtually on You Tube https:// www.youtube.com/c/cop26.

Climate Action Wendover is continuing to build momentum locally and we would like to thank everyone who participated in Great Big Green Week, attending our events and joining our community group. We are also delighted that at a meeting of the Parish Council on 5 October 2021 Wendover Parish Council declared a climate emergency and committed to working towards making the Council’s activities net-zero carbon by 2030.

We all have a part to play in tackling climate change and collectively, individual actions to reduce our personal carbon footprint all count. In the run up to COP26, we will be celebrating the steps people across the UK are taking in their daily life for the planet to help and inspire others to do #MyBitYourBit.

If you would like to share what changes you have made, then please take a minute to complete our pledge https://www. climateactionwendover.org/pledge and let us know if you would like to share your story with our community.
