A home with attitude of calm intent and feelings. Urban Lodge – A garden of white lights. A Boston shingle whose exterior is Yellow Cedar, heartwood brought in from Northwestern British Columbia. The roof line is capped with curvatures of Metal Alloys… Softly belonging; Architecturally textbook aero dynamical... sustainable for 120 mph winds. Beams exposed on the interior with bottom visible only. Magnificent views that encompass the living soul of Seattle, day and night. From every room for the sense of a penthouse, yet a home with feet on the ground. Architectural interest at every corner with sharp contrast from red and white walls. Choruses of Peruvian Limestone and Wood supported by an indoor balcony for an evening of music from above. Masterpiece ready gallery walls. Traditionally your kitchen with a modern aptitude. Guest bedrooms tucked away at garden level; master sized amenities Reclusive gardens reverberating with white lights. An elevator silently rises and descends to all three floors, so handy when the groceries refuse to leave the garage on their own volition or its time to head for bed. Top floor worthy of the title ‘Master Suite’: immense closet, sweeping views, personal kitchen, sauna, a shower for a crowd. It is all yours! In addition there is a corner to corner reading room with built-in bench for those who can’t yet give up the view. Every room displays the Seattle skyline with pride, as the home’s personal biography unfolds.

A sitting area in the hall is a perfect place for guests to have morning coffee, leaving everyone free to enjoy a secluded moment. A fourth room with a separate outdoor entrance is perfect for a nanny (referred to above). Comings and goings wouldn’t interfere with the main household in the least. The heating in the floor is radiant and the water is heated with gas = gas fired hot water, radiant heat. 7, 775 square feet lot plus 2000 sq. ft. permanent easement from the city. It gives them exclusive use of the property.

It’s the roof line you’ll see first. Distinctive in the area, representative of taste, aerodynamic in feel. Sturdy metal roof. Exterior cedar shakes reflect the local surroundings. Mature firs complete for light with shyer Japanese maples. The raised path leads you through trees to the entry of Portuguese limestone. The powder room, painted in burnt cinnamon, is accented with black fixtures. Step up to the kitchen. The added height makes sense as the view of Seattle sprawls beneath you and you can see the heads of the guests and family chatting in the living room. The Sound, Seattle Center, including a crow’s nest view of the International Fountain, the columns of downtown playing tag with Mt Rainier, Capitol Hill, First Hill, two sets of mountains. Mark some time in your calendar, the view never stops. Every room has something to look at. Stroll out the glass door to the expansive balcony. The skyline is that much closer. Patio sets, BBQ’s. This balcony is envied outdoor living. The dining room is capped with a terra cotta coved ceil. The built in buffet is topless! Where a wall could be, look right through to the hall. All is illumed by a golden glass chandelier. The great room is spacious. Push a button to slide the painting above the fireplace up to expose the hidden television. A stone hearth adds to the air of a sophisticated haven. A Craftsman timbered coved ceiling continues the feel.

FACES AND PLACES

Queen Anne is best known for its commanding view of downtown Seattle and its stately 19th-century architecture.
Bordering the northern end of Seattle’s city center, Queen Anne covers the city’s tallest hill, with an elevation of 456 feet. Although the neighborhood is not the tallest point in the city (the Gatewood neighborhood, in West Seattle owns this claim at an elevation of 520 feet), Queen Anne’s carefully preserved architecture and sweeping views of the Seattle skyline make it one of the city’s more popular residential locations. Like so many of Seattle’s residential districts, Queen Anne is a community unto its own. The neighborhood’s main thoroughfare, Queen Anne Avenue, links the area with downtown environs and has become a magnet for trendy restaurants, upscale hotels and popular bistros. Just about every type of restaurant can be found on Queen Anne Avenue. North, or in Seattle’s Uptown neighborhood, at the base of the hill. The importation of large, affluent mansions during the 1800s and 1900s gave Queen Anne Hill its name. Although the community is now an eclectic mix of modern and historic styles, Seattle’s early roots can still be found on Queen Anne. Walking and driving tours are the best way to get an up-close view of Seattle’s early architecture. Queen Anne’s Kerry Park is an ideal location for taking in Seattle’s evening skyline, and there is no better time to do so then on New Year’s Eve, when the Space Needle becomes the center of festivities. Residents make a point of gathering at this spot to watch the fireworks and the lighting of the Needle. If you go, dress warm, bring a chair and be prepared for a memorable West Coast tradition. www.gonorthwest.com/Washington/seattle/Queen_Anne
