Character, commitment, capacity— the three Cs of leadership. These three Cs reach to the heart of what top employers want most in new hires—leadership skills and sensibilities. The three Cs also form the foundation of our renowned Wentworth Leadership Institute, a threephase program of classroom and action learning experiences open to all Wentworth students seeking to grow into confident leaders. Phase I is an eight-week course focused on communication, team building, team dynamics, problem-solving, and adaptability. Phase II is an intensive, four-week dive into advanced communications, ethics, inclusion, and teamwork. Phase III is a year-long capstone project during which you explore and identify a pressing need in an external community, propose and implement a solution, then reflect upon what worked and what didn’t. By the end of the program, you will have demonstrated to potential employers—and to yourself—your readiness to lead in any situation.

“Coming back from the Army, I found Wentworth to be an eye-opening experience. If you’re serious about learning, you will get the best possible education here. And you will learn to use all those concepts out in the professional world.” SEAN KENNEDY Mechanical Engineering major / Aerospace Engineering minor / Physics minor Easton, Massachusetts

“As I read through the job description and the expectations for the engineering group position at Sanofi Genzyme,

Cooperative learning. At Wentworth, we’ve created one of the most comprehensive co-op education programs in the country. Your two co-ops will be paid, full-time, semester-long jobs in your field of study that translate classroom learning into professional action. Co-ops are required—that’s how important we believe these experiences are to your future success. And we’re beside you all the way with support services that ensure productive and fulfilling outcomes.

I found myself checking the imaginary check boxes for all the experiences I was hoping to get out of my co-op. The role offered so many opportunities to grow and learn about working in the industry.” VANESSA CARDONA Biomedical Engineering major

Broaden your horizons. Some of the most profound learning that Wentworth students experience happens when they put themselves into someone else’s shoes. We create opportunities for these powerful moments through partnerships with organizations in our neighborhood and around the world—including a wide range of domestic and international study programs. Wentworth professors routinely use their local, national, and global networks to develop real-world projects with life-changing impact.

Immersive community engagement opportunities include: > Alternative Spring Break—from helping the homeless in San

Diego and preparing meals for people battling HIV/AIDS in Washington, DC to mentoring Boston youth in Soccer Without Borders and helping the Franklin Park Zoo protect local wildlife habitats. > Co+build—construction projects that help stabilize local

communities. > Community Work-Study—financial compensation for work

with local nonprofits. > College Access—mentoring, inspiration, and information to

help Boston Public School students gain access to college. > Volunteer Income Tax Assistance—training to assist low-

income neighborhood residents with income tax preparation. > Accelerate Think Tanks—students, faculty, community

advocates, corporate executives, and municipal officials collaborate on innovative responses to challenges such as abandoned city properties and the needs of Boston’s aging population.

We also partner with four other local schools (all within walking distance of our campus)—Emmanuel College (1), Simmons University (2), Massachusetts College of Art (3), and Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (4) —to offer a bundle of perks: > cross-registration for one course per semester > social events > intramural sports

Case in point. Wentworth’s recent collaboration with Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) of Massachusetts is one example of how we have advanced the model of the embedded classroom. Twice a week, students in Professor Matthew Templeton’s Industrial Design Studio met with and collaborated on projects with BCBS executives and project managers. “These opportunities give students the chance to take their education from theoretical to experiential, from abstract to immersive,” says Templeton, who is also the senior director of innovation, strategy, and business solutions at BCBS. Such experiences often develop into professional opportunities. Alex Connor, BIND ’19, was a junior when he took Templeton’s course. Over the course of the semester, Connor conceptualized, designed, and iterated an opioid overdose protection toolkit that eventually became part of a BCBS pilot program to help combat the crisis in Massachusetts. Connor subsequently landed a co-op position with BCBS. “I care deeply about helping people understand concepts through art and design, and healthcare is one of the most difficult topics out there,” he says. “This really jump-started my career.”

at the high-tech

frontier.

Long renowned for its university-fueled entrepreneurship culture, Boston was recently judged the top global city for

innovation—beating out San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, and Beijing. At Wentworth, you will be perfectly positioned to both leverage and contribute to that culture. Our neighborhood features premiere biotechnology and medical research as well as world-class software, design, engineering, construction, and financial service enterprises. And Wentworth students routinely secure co-ops, internships, and ultimately jobs at some of the biggest names in the innovation economy—Apple, Microsoft, Raytheon, Wayfair, iRobot, and Shawmut Design and Construction, among others.

Accelerate your solution. At Accelerate, Wentworth’s innovation and entrepreneurship center, students spin bold ideas into action—and sometimes, successful companies.

Well and good. Wentworth professors and students are continually demonstrating how their ingenuity can fuel career success and be a force for societal good. Recent projects include: > Eliot Congregational Church renovation—Wentworth’s

National Electrical Contractors Association student club designed and completed a series of energy efficient upgrades as part of the national Green Energy Challenge. > Zervas Elementary School construction—construction

management students created schedule, budget, community outreach, and quality and risk management tools to aid in the building of a new public school in Newton, MA. > Climate Resilience program—interdisciplinary teams of

faculty and students in Wentworth’s CityLab met with Prime Minister Mark Rutte and other government and industry leaders from The Netherlands as part of a project to develop short-term utilization solutions for distressed properties in Boston’s Dorchester and Mattapan neighborhoods.

at theofhub the hub. The best nicknames get even better with time. Boston’s most famous nickname, The Hub, was invented in 1858 to reflect the city’s central role in the nation’s intellectual and business life. Since then, Boston has grown into one of the most vital cities in the world—with arts, cuisine, music, sports, and recreation to equal the renowned science, technology, and startup scenes here. At Wentworth, you’ll be at the epicenter of it all. Our campus stretches across 31 acres in the very hub of The Hub. Of all Boston’s 35 colleges and universities, this may be the single best location for taking advantage of all the city has to offer.
