Analysis of current status

There are residentaial area, sports center and buffer zone surround the site. Here are two important problems inside the campus. First, there are no links among function zones. Second, it lacks communication places that students can keep talking to each other after classes. To solve these problems, I designed public spaces to communication place for connecting different function zones.

During the study, I explore the demands for the functions of the public spaces in the campus. According to the result, I find that students need communication places for bothe private conversation and group work, etc. In order to satisfy the needs, there are two different communication units--boxes, in total eight on the square. ( 4m*4m, 6m*6m).

Achitecture form The campus is going to build a new building for the school of landscape architecture. The students of school of landscape architecture need the space for making models, group discussion and exhibition, etc. Therefore, a series of public spaces are designed. There is a large atrium in the building, the students can communicate and work together there.

Three types of storm water management zones

Different type of land( such as normal pavement and permeable pavement) has different value of φ. To achieve runoff control rate 85%, the planning needs to make ballance of each type of land.

After checking the planning φ can meet the request: runoff control rate 85%, I divided the city into three different types of storm water management zones.

There are three main rivers in Qian'an. Instead of letting rainfall go through river, we use green infrastructure to keep it and reuse it.

Current drainge system can absorb 33.6mm of rainfall.

Rate of permeable pavement: 3% Rate of green roof:3% Rate of sinking green space: 50% Average sinking depth: 250mm

Second level management zone: City Park, Linear green space, Green way.

Function: Absorb small rainfall( <33.6mm), do not let the rainfall go away through drainage system& control initial phase of a storm.

Function: Absorb rainfall from third level green space when >33.6mm& The green way transfer the water into the first level zone together with trainage system when rainfall >67.2mm.

First level management zone: Forestry land and national parks around city.

Function: Absorb rainfall >67.2mm, avoiding damage.

If >67.2mm, the rainfall will come to the first level zone.
