FEBBRAIO 2014 Frequenza 200: Ema Jons Ema Jons, insieme alle associazioni ArtecA e Per Esempio, ha dato avvio al primo esperimento di street art partecipata nel quartiere. Le attività si sono svolte nell’ambito del progetto “Frequenza 200”, fInanziato dalla fondazione WeWorld, con lo scopo di arginare il fenomeno della dispersione scolastica.
Ema Jons, together with the organizationS Arteca and Per Esempio, starts his fIrst experience in participatory street art on the district. The activities were part of “Frequenza 200” project, funded by the WeWorld foundation, in order to fIght the problem of school drop-outs.

Ulisse e le Sirene: Pang
Al termine delle attività del centro “Frequenza 200”, prima della sospensione estiva, Pang, giovane artista londinese amante del bianco e nero, è stata chiamata a realizzare un laboratorio con i bimbi. Come attività didattica alternativa le è stato chiesto di rappresentare, insieme ai piccoli, i personaggi e le storie dell’Odissea. When the activities of “Frequenza 200” center were almost fInished before the summer break, Pang, a young Londoner artist in love with black and white, was involved to carry out a workshop with the children. She represented, together with the kids, the characters and the stories of the Odyssey, in order to develop their skills by using non-formal education.

A seguito del successo dei primi esperimenti di street art nel quartiere, le associazioni Per Esempio e PUSH in collaborazione con Ema Jons, hanno avviato una campagna di crowdfunding per ricavare le risorse economiche necessarie a prolungare e riproporre le attivitĂ artistiche per un ulteriore semestre
After the success of the fIrst street art activities in the district, the organizations Per Esempio and PUSH, together with Ema Jons, launched a crowdfunding campaign aiming to gain the necessary economic resources for keeping on the artistic activities for further six months.
Sono state organizzate passeggiate nel quartiere ed allestiti BANCHETTI E MOSTRE in collaborazione con Perciasacchi, CaravanSerai e Palermo Youth Center walks and exhibitions in collaboration with Perciasacchi, CaravanSerai and Palermo Youth Center were organized to raise money for the project

Durante la campagna di crowdfunding una spedizione di giovanissimi artisti di Borgo Vecchio è stata ospite di Farm Cultural Park, uno tra i progetti di arte contemporanea più ambiziosi in Italia. Insieme ad Ema Jons e a un gruppo di bambini favaresi, i bimbi del Borgo hanno lasciato anche lì un colorato segno del loro passaggio.

During the crowdfunding campaign a team of young Borgo Vecchio’s small artists was hosted by Farm Cultural Park, one of the most ambitious project of contemporary art in Italy. Together with Ema Jons and a group of children from Favara (AG), the kids left a colorful piece of art on the walls.

In addition to the painting workshops, Favara and Palermo’s children visited the exhibitions of the museum, played football and infLated huge soap bubbles

Novembre 2014 Il leone Carmelo La campagna di crowdfunding ha raggiunto il suo obiettivo in appena dieci giorni e le attività al borgo sono iniziate ancor prima della sua chiusura. Dai laboratori all’aperto è nata subito la prima creatura: il “Leone Carmelo” (dal nome del proprietario della casa su cui viene realizzato).
The crowdfunding campaign reached its goal during the fIrst ten days so the activities in the district started before its end. From the outdoor workshops the fIrst murales took life and it was called “Lion Carmelo” (from the name of the owner of the house where it was realized).

Dicembre 2014 L’ascesa degli angeli ribelli Tra laboratori all’aperto e attività di doposcuola i bimbi continuano a disegnare e colorare su ogni superFicie. Durante il mese di dicembre, sulla parete di fronte al centro i giovani artisti realizzano tutti insieme un ritratto della comunità del Borgo mentre tenta di evadere al di là di una rete.
During indoor and outdoor activities, the children kept drawing and coloring on every surface. Just in front of the center where they have after-school activities, the young artists painted a portrait of the whole district community, while trying to escape beyond a grid. Ema Jons called it “the rebel angels rise”.

Tra pioggia e vento, Aris, artista viareggino noto per le sue fIgure astratte, ha realizzato assieme ai bambini tre pezzi in tonalitĂ di giallo, bianco e blu. Facce, braccia e mani si fondono diventando le une estensione delle altre.

Under rains and wind, Aris, a famous artist from Viareggio known for its abstract paintings, realized, together with the children, three art pieces in yellow, white and blue tints. Faces, arms and hands merge and become the extensions of each other.

Il freddo non ferma i grafFIti: con Ema Jons si sperimentano nuove tecniche e colorazioni, si passa dal ritratto alle fIgure astratte. I bozzetti su carta, realizzati dai bimbi, danno spunti e suggestioni da sviluppare sui muri.
Febbraio 2015 continuano i workshop
The cold does not stop grafFIti: together with Ema Jons the kids kept experimented new techniques and colors, portraits and abstract shapes. The sketches on paper, done by the children, gave many ideas and suggestions, to be developed on the walls.

Marzo 2015 Alleg Con Alleg anche l’Abruzzo visita il Borgo. L’artista, una volta sbarcato a Palermo, non è più voluto andar via. Per circa due mesi, ha lavorato su tutto il quartiere disegnando limoni e carote su un chiosco della frutta, un pallone da calcio nei pressi del campetto e una gigantesca testa di statua spinta da grandi uomini su uno degli ingressi al quartiere.
With Alleg also Abruzzo region enters the district. The artist, once landed in Palermo, did not want to leave anymore. For about two months he has been working throughout the district, drawing lemons and carrots on a fruit stall, a football ball near the soccer pitch and a giant head of a statue pushed by two strong men, on one of the entrances of the neighborhood.
Questo pallone è il ritratto di Borgo Vecchio. All’interno si possono scorgere i suoi edifIci e i suoi abitanti: dal campetto di calcio a Rocky, il fedele cane This foot-ball is the portrait of Borgo Vecchio. Inside it you can see its buildings and its people: from the central soccer fIeld, to Rocky, the long-haired faithful dog of the district
A conclusione delle attività altri due artisti di passaggio hanno avuto il piacere di lasciare un segno nel quartiere: Vadis e NemO’s. Il primo, insieme ad Ema Jons, ha dipinto una grande parete con maschere e colori accesi intorno ad una grande fIgura fatta di vene e foglie; il secondo, con l’aiuto dei piccoli, ha reinterpretato il prospetto di un edifIcio, incastrando i tentacoli di un gigantesco polpo tra parapetti e fInestre.
APRILE/Maggio 2015 Vadis e NemO’s
Almost at the end of the activities, two other artists had the pleasure to leave a mark in the district: Vadis and NemO’s. The fIrst one, together with Ema Jons, painted a large wall with masks and bright colors, around a big shape made of veins and leaves; the second, with the help of the kids, reinterpreted a front wall of a building fItting the tentacles of a giant octopus among the windows.

Octopuses are very common in the neighborhood. With their tentacles they’re able to surround and block everything
Prima della pausa estiva, in concomitanza con la tappa locale del Mediterraneo Antirazzista (torneo sportivo nazionale, contro le discriminazioni di ogni tipo) i bambini e gli abitanti del quartiere, in soli tre giorni, hanno ristrutturato il campetto, colorandone il suolo, le porte e le transenne e montando nuove e resistenti reti sui bordi. L’intera operazione è stata fInanziata con le quote di iscrizione alla due giorni di calcetto, organizzata per grandi e piccoli al Borgo.
Giugno 2015 Mediterraneo Antirazzista
Before the summer break, during the local appointment with “Mediterraneo Antirazzista” match (a national sport initiative that aims to fIght against racism and discriminations), children and locals, in just three days, renovated the soccer pitch of the district. They colored the ground and the soccer goals, putting new and stronger grids on the edges. The whole operation was fInanced through a two-days soccer tournament organized for youngsters and adults.

The whole neighborhood has been involved in the requalifIcation of the soccer pitch: children, families, professionals and technicians
Grazie al torneo molti cittadini hanno avuto la possibilitĂ di fare un giro tra le opere murali realizzate dai bambini Thanks to the tournament many citizens had the opportunity to make a tour of the murals created by the children
