When I Was Old / When I Get Young A special community performance, where a small group of local people will step out onto the stage of the New Wolsey Theatre. From new-born baby to senior citizen, the project weaves together personal reflections and ambitions, past and future lives; to create a ‘story of a life time’. When I Was Old/ When I Get Young is made in response to Shakespeare’s famous Seven Ages of Man speech and captures what we’ve come to understand about being human. It is a unique story-telling experience that considers how we change over time. Developed as part of RSC Pilot Night. There’s an orchestra, trapped in a city during a military coup. Violence erupts, the orchestra becomes separated – lost – trying to find their way home. The composer is left to tell the story. How To Win A Cure For Against History Ageing
In 1885, the boy aristocrat Henry Cyril Paget was visited by some sort of ghost who promised him immortality and fabulousness. 20 years later, dying penniless in Monte Carlo, Henry realised the ghost had lied about one of those things. Self-help gurus David and Peter McWizard challenge their own mediocrity to bring you this gutwrenchingly sad play about frocks for men.
A piece about being young and foolish, and becoming old and wise, or about being young and wise and becoming old and foolish. This is an intimate, evocative performance that asks how we can talk more honestly and openly about ageing, and how this can prepare us better for the process. Ira Brand is a performancemaker and writer, working in theatre and live art.

BBC R4 Slam Champion Ben Mellor takes you on a stand-up poetry and music fuelled tour around the body, attempting to get the measure of modern life through anatomical analogy. Presented with Ben’s trademark mix of free-verse poetry, rap, beatbox and a healthy dose of satirical humour, the text is underscored live by multiinstrumentalist Dan Steele on guitar, keys, drumpad and livelooping technology.

James and Gemma are getting ready for a fight. This is the press conference. The cameras are rolling. An autocue scrolls relentlessly for 4 hours. As the insults and self-aggrandizing become more and more extreme the conversation becomes a linguistic version of the fight itself and then of life itself. This is a work-in-progress of a durational piece of work that James and Gemma hope will eventually last 24 hours. They’re going to try for 4 hours at PULSE and see what happens. The audience is free to come and go as they please. Action Hero is the collaboration between artists James Stenhouse and Gemma Paintin. Paper People brings you street theatre hot off the press! Based around a mobile newspaper stand, newspaper sellers use their stack of newspapers to bring to life a variety of characters and stories. Watch the characters and landscapes emerge from the paper like live and evolving animations, highlighting that although they are now all different, they all started off the same, within a simple piece of paper. An interactive ‘walkabout’ performance for children and their families, once the Paper People have shared their stories, they wheel off to sell their papers elsewhere...
A new rock ‘n’ roll musical for kids (and adults). Gorilla is a bit argumentative and plays the drums. Badger has incredible legs and is a bit of a chatterbox. Bear thinks she’s from Manchester and needs to have a poo. Hedgehog isn’t saying anything but might be persuaded to later, if we’re nice. Join Gorilla, Badger, Bear and Hedgehog as they make friends, play games, contemplate the world and finally rock out at a grand dance contest. Kid Carpet is internationally known for his unique brand of electro-pop-punk. In Kid Carpet & The Noisy Animals he uses lo-fi technological wizardry to turn plastic toys into punk-rock superstars.

Predator finishing off what I started when I was five
A live, interactive re-telling of the 1987 classic film, Predator. At five years old my brother and I snuck down stairs after my parents had gone to bed and taped the film Predator off the TV. We would watch the film religiously thereafter and began creating our own version. What started out as a scene for scene re-creation soon turned into our own re-imagining. Unfortunately we never finished what we had started. So here’s my chance! With a little bit of your help I will finish off what’s been in the making for 20 years, using some of the same techniques that my brother and I started with, as well as bringing to life and realising the fantasy that we wished we were able to achieve in 1991. So please, sit down and join me at my table, as we play with remote control helicopters, action men, puppets and our own imaginations to complete our own version of the film Predator and finally finishing off what I started when I was five.

It’s time to put the spotlight in the spotlight, let the staging upstage us, and show our objects some affection. We, Object is an absurdist amalgamation of visual puns, word play and amateur dancing dealing with objects, objectification and objection. As the show progresses, it becomes increasingly unclear as to who (or what) is (or isn’t) being objectified. Our movements are big yet our objects small. Can their minute form represent and challenge the way society belittles the ever-present issue of female objectification? Or perhaps it’s just a show about small things.

With help from our friends Antigen Records K antigenrecords.com bands we love and DJ’s who play what they love, we end each day with a live band and/or DJ playing some of the most original ear treats from Funk, Disco, Psychedelic Soul, Rock ‘n’ Roll, Reggae, dusty Jazz & Blues.
This trio has established a reputation as one of the country’s most adventurous and original live acts. They have shared the stage with Baby Dee, Marc Almond and David Tibet and in 2012 they were invited by Godspeed You! Black Emperor to open for them on their European tour. Followed by our resident PULSE DJ’s.

Nathaniel is a singer/songwriter and sound designer, specialising in ambisonic recording techniques. Nathaniel utilises a curious collection of instruments and objects to provide accompaniment and percussion.
