THE RING OF CHURCHES If you enjoy beautiful and special churches then Stafford Borough has some interesting gems to visit. The Church Trail leaflet available from the Stafford TIC reveals many ecclesiastical delights. In the heart of Stafford, St Chad's is one of the oldest buildings in the town, and the Collegiate Church of St Mary’s holds the Izaak Walton memorial and hidden green men. Equally, Ingestre Church is not to be missed as one of the very few Wren churches outside London and is a real box of delights, and the churchyard at St Michael’s in Stone houses the mausoleum of the Earl of St. Vincent, Nelson's Admiral at Trafalgar. Festival Family Fun There’s plenty to keep you entertained all year round with a calendar of festivals and events that will appeal to all.

The Music Festival in May offers a symphony of music from classical to contemporary. Summer brings the parks to life, and Victoria Park plays host to the popular and colourful Party in the Park event. Stafford Festival treats visitors to free family entertainment in July. A series of Summer events sponsored by the Guildhall Shopping Centre will be held in Stafford’s Market Square, culminating in a Children’s Fun Week from 23rd to 27th August. The year ends with events including a Victorian Market, Christmas Parade, and Christmas Lights Switch-on with a firework extravaganza. Sandon Hall, Shugborough, Weston Park and Stafford Showground all host large-scale events; from pop festivals to toy fairs, classic cars to classical music.

The Castle has dominated the Stafford landscape for over 900 years of turbulent history. Explore the impressive motte and bailey defensive system. William the Conqueror first built Stafford Castle as a fortress to subdue the local populace.
