WHAT TO EXPECT \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Before the Session

Once we’ve received your deposit payment, we’ll start planning your session at your pre-session consult. We will discuss what kind of look you want, where you will hang your photographs and what to wear for your session before setting the date. After the date is set we’ll keep a close eye on the weather forecast and contact you approxinamtely 48 hours before your session if we feel the session time may need to be altered or rescheduled. If you’ve scheduled an indoor session with us, this call will be to simply confirm the date/time and address any final concerns you may have. If you need to reschedule for any reason this would be the time to do so without incurring any additional fees. Finally, we will meet for your photography session, have loads of fun and capture great images.

After the Session The next step is to make your image design appointment. Images are usually available to view within four to five business days. Before you go to your appointment, take the time to measure your walls and approximate what size portraits would look best. Remember, many frames will add 6” to the size of the space needed to accommodate your portrait. Also, look over our price list to familiarize yourself with all your options.

What to Wear //////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Tip 1 Discuss the family portrait together with the entire group. Your family portrait should convey a sense of your family’s personality. Talk about possible color schemes, settings and poses. Feel free to discuss these with us prior to your session. We want you to {LOVE} your images.

Tip 2 Choose clothing that fits with the setting of the portrait. If you are having your portrait taken on the beach, summer clothing is appropriate. Make sure to dress for the weather. Layers are great, they allow you additional looks easily and they add depth to your images.

Tip 3

Coordinate colors. Everyone in the family portrait should wear colors that meld well together. Some families choose to match their colors exactly. While this is not necessary, you do need to ensure that all the clothing colors complement each other.

Tip 4 Avoid different shades of the same color. If one person is wearing a bright red shirt, you don’t want another person wearing a light red shirt. Reds are tough. It will just look like you attempted to match but didn’t quite succeed. Remember to try and keep them in the same family of colors.

Tip 5

Choose neutral or muted color tones. Bright colors tend to draw the eye away from the subjects. Black, white, off-white all look classic and are great bases to work with and add fun pops of color with accessories.

4

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Tip 6 Coordinate the style of clothing as well. Everyone should be dressed in a similar style, such as formal or casual. Don’t be afraid to add in accessories, such as scarves, necklaces, fun ties, etc. to match your style.

Tip 7 Wear solids. Avoid stripes, plaids, big logos and bold patterns (big flowery is a no-no), as they will draw attention away from the faces in the photo. You want the main focus to be on your family, not your clothes.

Tip 8

Pick clothing that fits nicely. It should be neither too tight nor too loose. The clothes should hang on the bodies well, without folding or creasing. Make sure clothes aren’t too wrinkled.

Tip 9 Consider clothing that covers the knees and elbows. These areas don’t photograph as well as the rest of the body so it may be wise to choose clothing that covers them.

Tip 10 Avoid trendy styles. Basic classics are better clothing choices for your portrait. Remember to have layers though if possible! Trends pass and you want your family portrait to be timeless. Jeans are classic and are great for for casual or dressy portraits and look great with simple colors and fun accents too!

The Session ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Choosing a Location The location of your session can be anywhere - from your home to a nearby park or restaurant. At ADMIT Photography we believe that the most important factor in choosing the location for your session should be the emotional value to you and your family. Being in the same spot in which something wonderful happened to your family can provoke emotion and more natural smiles when you are in front of the lens. Natural settings, such as parks and wilderness, can create beautiful backdrops for your photos. If you prefer to shoot indoors, no problem at all! Rooms with large windows which let in light are the perfect choice but not mandatory as we travel with lighting gear for all situations! The most important thing is for you to be comfortable in the surrounds that you choose for your portrait session.

Props Props are any kind of object that you wish to have included in your photograph. In general props can add detail, interest and meaning to your photographs, especially if they hold sentimental value to you and your family. Some examples include baby blankets, love letters, family heirlooms, travel souvenirs, and anything else that is close to your heart. Have a question about a prop? No problem just give us a call and we can you decide if it’s right for your family and the style of photographs you are hoping to achieve!

Image Presentation and Sales \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Your Image Presentation appointment is scheduled for 60 minutes in duration. While it doesn’t always take that much time, we don’t want you to feel rushed while selecting your favorite images. During this appointment, you can see the amazing art products that I’ve created for you, and approve your holiday cards or announcements. Be advised that the last 15 minutes of your appointment is reserved for processing your order and collecting payment. Please invite anyone who is a decision maker, and anyone else who may want to order portraits, to your Sales Appointment. Although everyone’s welcome, some clients find it’s easier to concentrate on their images if they provide alternate care for young children as they can get bored and restless. •At the beginning of the session, you will view all your images in a slideshow set to music. Please, don’t concern yourself with trying to remember which your favorite poses are. This is the time to sit back, relax and enjoy the show. •After the initial sideshow, each image will be displayed one at a time, and you will decide whether or not to keep that image. This will help to narrow down your choices. If there are two or more similar poses, and you like them, say yes to all of them. Don’t worry about changing your mind after you delete an image from your group, the images don’t go into a black hole, and they can be retrieved. •During the third go-round viewing your images, you are able to put similar poses side-by-side to further scrutinize your choices. This process is repeated until you have narrowed your pose choices down to suit your portrait package. • Finally, you choose which size prints and other products that you wish to order and display in your home! Just don’t forget about your friends and family! •Due to the custom nature of the work, we request that you pay for your portraits in full at the time you place your order. Payment plans are available, please ask for details. •Your order will be completed within six weeks after it is placed. We will call and notify you when your portraits are ready to be picked up or delivered.

PRINTS VS. DIGITAL IMAGES

Will Your Grandchildren be Very Upset With You? by Fred Molesworth

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

I’m willing to bet they will and here’s why. Imagine, 50 years from now, as your grandchildren or great grandchildren are going through the boxes in the attic. Finding all kinds of treasures and keepsakes, they’re enthralled with what they are, and how they tie into the story of your life. Amongst all the old items, they find a number of round silver objects. Some have writing on them, some are blank, but they resemble some kind of a small platter about 4 inches across, with a hole in the middle. Puzzled, they take them to their parents. “What are these, mom?” they ask. “Oh, I think those are all of grandma’s photographs. Yep, here’s one labeled “My Wedding”. Here’s some more labeled “Family Photos”, and some more labeled “vacations”. “How do we look at them?” they ask. “Well, I’m not sure we can. First of all., no one has the device that reads these any more. And besides that, I doubt after all these years that they’re any good any more. Being stored in the attic, the heat and cold probably ruined them”. The kids are very disappointed. Nowhere amongst all the treasures are any actual prints. All that history is lost. Their connection with the past, and all the wonderful stories that might have gone along with all those photographs are gone as well. Along with all the wonders of our digital age come some significant problems that most people have never thought of. Did you know that something over 90% of all images taken on today’s digital cameras are NEVER PRINTED? I’m guilty of that myself. I have gigabytes of personal photographs that have never been seen other than on a computer screen. In the old days, film went to the lab, and everything that was printable was printed. Even if it was a bad photograph, it still was a hard copy, a part of your family history, and it had permanence. Even if it never went in an album, it at least went into a box, to be discovered as treasures years later. I just came across some wonderful old prints of my mother’s childhood from back in the 1920s. They’re TREASURES. They connect me with my past, and keep alive some of the memories of the stories my mother told me about growing up. Along with those were lots of other family-history photographs. Grandparents and great grandparents I never knew, but I have photographs of them. Yes, I’ve had to do some restoration on them, but I had the hard copy that

8

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ allowed me to do this. But that’s not even possible with images that never leave the hard drive, and. are lost when the hard drive fails. Or with images that are placed on CD’s or DVD’s, because the chances of being able to read them in 50 years is just about zero. Try to fmd an 8 track tape player today. Or one of those large 12 inch floppy drives, or even a 5_ inch floppy. And those were popular less than 20 years ago. The same problem exists in professional portrait studios today. Many people are simply asking for the images on CD. “I’ll print them later” or “I’ll design my own wedding album” are common phrases. Usually this is done with the thought that they’ll save some money by doing it themselves. But you know what? Most never make it into any kind of an album. Life gets busy, other things get in the way, and 5 years later, they’ll still only have a disk. Kids come along, and life gets insane, and 20 years later, they’ll be looking for some way to read those disks, if they even happen to think about it. And then 50 years later, the grandkids are having the conversation with their parents. I work with a wedding planner – a professional in the wedding business – who fit’s this description perfectly. Her photographer simply gave her some proofs and a disk. Five years later, that’s all she has, and she’s admitted that it’s likely that it’s all she’ll ever have, because now with a new baby, she’ll probably never get around to designing an album. Life now has other priorities. We periodically get calls from people in this situation, wondering if we would design an album for them; Or retouch images that were never retouched. Or if we can “fix” the poor quality images that were taken by someone who didn’t know how, or feel the need to provide a quality finished product. I bring this up only to point out the importance of what we, as a professional studio, do Our job is not just to create the images, to create wonderful story telling photographs about the people in front of our camera; it’s to create a final product, whether it be a professionally retouched and printed single image, a family heirloom wall portrait, or an incredibly storybook album using a collection of the images that were created. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a wedding, a newborn baby, a senior or a family. Having the final product created for you is important. To do less is to leave the job half done, and to short-change the customer. Then, if you want a disk with all the images “so I can print them later” that’s fine. At least you’ll have something wonderful to show, something your family will love for generations, and something your grandchildren can truly get excited about when they discover that box in the attic. And that conversation, then, will never need to take place.

As a DJ, it’s very important that the photographer I work with is not just an artist behind the lens, but also a team player with a great personality. Wesley has all of those important attributes! So, when it was time to take some new head shots for my website and business cards, I decided to have Wesley do that for me, and they turned out great!
