Useful Information Charging Grants
Company car tax calculator
OLEV GRANT The OLEV EVHS Grant, how you can benefit from it and how to claim up to £350 for a home charging point.
WHAT IS COMPANY CAR TAX? Company car drivers in the UK get taxed on the value and pollution index of the car that they drive. At the moment the UK is way ahead of any other country in varying the level of tax according to a fairly precise level of pollution. Similar cars with similar prices can have very different tax levels according to the type of fuel used and the efficiency with which it is used.
SUMMARY In the context of home charging, the OLEV Grant refers to a government grant for electric car home chargers, provided by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV). The OLEV Grant, specifically named the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS), provides up to £350 off the cost of purchasing & installing a home charging point. It’s available for most electric cars and plug-in hybrid cars, old or new. You can claim one chargepoint per eligible vehicle and up to two eligible vehicles per household. OLEV also offer the separate Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) grant which can be claimed by any business, charity or public authority and provides up to £350 off the cost of purchasing & installing workplace charging points, up to 40 sockets. HOW DO I QUALIFY FOR THE OLEV GRANT? To qualify for OLEV’s EVHS grant, you need to have purchased an eligible electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle or leased one for at least six months. • You must have off-street parking. • You must install an OLEV-approved chargepoint. • You must use an OLEV-approved chargepoint installer like Pod Point.

HOW MUCH IS IT? Electric cars will pay very little tax after April 2020, whereas even a medium sized petrol or diesel could be taxed on as much as 37% of its original price. In between there are a wide range of options and manufacturers are in a constant race to lower emissions faster than the government tightens the tax thresholds. HOW IS IT CALCULATED? Find the official list price of the car, excluding VED and FRF but including delivery, VAT and options. Then multiply this by the appropriate percentage applicable to the car’s official CO2 emissions and fuel type. Then apply your top level of tax to the resultant benefit. It is not easy to find all this information, so we aim to cover all new UK cars in the database. The tax calculator will take you through the numbers as long as you know what car to start with. HOW DO I PAY LESS TAX? Try the vehicle finder to pick the lowest taxed cars within your criteria. You will find that cheaper, lighter and more efficient vehicles are generally taxed less, with a particular advantage towards alternative fuelled vehicles. Manuals are generally better than old-style automatics, but some of the new CVTs and electronically powered clutches are even more efficient. Cashback offers and discounts do not reduce the official list price on which you will be taxed. Instead look out for special editions where options are often loaded on without an equivalent increase in list price.
Electric Home Charging Point Grants There is an OLEV Grant (office for law emission vehicle) is available for home charging solutions. The grant’s name is ‘Electric Vehicle Home charging Scheme’ (EVHS), as the name suggests it’s to provide financial relief to the cost of adding a home charging point to your home. This grant currently provides up to £500 off the cost of the purchase and the installation of a home charging point.
You can claim for a 1-charging point per eligible vehicle but you are only allowed up to 2 eligible vehicles per household. If you live in Scotland your able to get access to an additional grant, this is up to another £300. This grant is available through the Energy Savings Trust Scotland.
Ineco Energy help themselves to reducing costs, lower energy consumption and a greener future.
How can Ineco Energy help your business, school, or community project?
Local renewables company, Ineco Energy, that specialises in reducing the costs of operating businesses and schools, decided to continue with their push towards ‘net-zero’ by replacing one of their diesel vehicles with the E-Niro 4.
We h a v e c o m p l e t e d m a ny p r o j e c t s a c r o s s t h e U. K . fo r schools, academies, leisure centres as well as businesses both large and small. On each occasion making savings in energy consumption, or costs, and a reduction in carbon emissions.
Since September we have completed nearly 4,000 miles and used about 890kW of electricity. By charging at home (using a standard socket) means a 20% charge overnight is possible, and at the office using the 7kW charger a full charge can be done during the working day. Office charging also benefits from the green energy we produce. We installed Solar Panels on our roof, and a Tesla Powerwall 2 battery, which help drive the costs down.
We offer a free consultation with no obligations that will assess the savings you can achieve, and advise you on what grants and free government finance is available to you.

With the addition of LED lighting the running costs of the office are around £150 per year which for a 3,500 sq.foot office is pretty remarkable. Our biggest concerns was how far could I travel on a full charge. The current range is 280 miles, but this was nearly 320 miles in September when the heating was not being used. This is more than most people would regularly drive in a single day.

EV FAQs
As the general public has become more aware of the environment, they are now starting to look for ways to help reduce pollution. Along with the Government pushing the issue and the general awareness of the booming electric vehicle industry, which is only going to get bigger. This means more and more people are interested in using electric cars or vans on a day to day basis. But there are a lot of questions that people need answering about making the move to electric. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO CHARGE AN ELECTRIC CAR? This all depends on the size of the battery and the speed of the charging point. Charging can take anywhere between 30-minutes and 12-hours. A typical electric car with a 60kWh battery would take 8-hours to fully charge the car’s battery from empty to full when using a 7kWh charging point. The majority of electric car drivers never charge their battery from empty. They normally top up the battery’s power regularly which would speed up the charging process. This would mean hooking up the battery through the day when parked at work or a shopping centre, or charging your car overnight. The majority of electric cars can be charged within 35-minutes with a 50kWh charging point, to provide a range of up to 100-miles. As you can see, the bigger the battery and the slower the charging point is that you are using, the longer it will take to charge your car’s battery. ELECTRIC CHARGING AT HOME? You can buy a home charging point as this offers the best solution to charging your electric vehicle at home. It offers a faster and safer solution to charging your battery and offers the flexibility to charging your car’s battery overnight. You can use a standard 3-pin plug with an EVSE cable (electric vehicle supply equipment) to charge your car but this is not recommended as a permanent solution, this should be only used when no other option is available. Electric car charging points installation We would advise you to always enlist a professional to install your home charging point. The reason we give this advice is that to install a level-2 charging point that uses 240 volts, you need the correct circuit breaker installed on your home’s circuit board. You will then need to run a newly installed 4-strand cable to your chosen charging location to connect to your charging pod. If you don’t understand any of what we’ve said here, please have a professional to install your charging point at home. ARE ELECTRIC CHARGING POINTS FREE? There are many free EV charging points available around the UK. To find where these free charging points are you need to take a look at Zap-Map Live (available as an app or as a desktop version). Make sure to ‘filter’ your results by ‘Payment’ and apply the ‘£ Free to Use’ filter. This will give you a map of the UK full of free EV charging points in the UK. It is worth noting that the majority of fast and rapid chargers will require payment.
HOW MUCH TO CHARGE AN ELECTRIC CAR? There is no one answer that covers this question. It all depends on if you charge your EV at home, work or use a public charging station. We will base our answer on a typical electric car that uses a 60kWh battery, with a range of 200-miles. For the electricity rate, we will use a UK average of 14p per kWh charge to show you what your EV car could cost to charge. Home Charging: Full charge at home costs £8.40. Work Charging: Full charge can be obtained for free, as many employers will install a workplace charging point. Rapid Charging Point: normally you wouldn’t use a rapid charging point to charge your battery to full. EV drivers would normally use these charging points on the motorway at the service stations. This is where you’ll place your EV on charge and go grab a coffee or some lunch. An average cost would be £6.50 for 30-minutes that will provide your battery with a 100-mile range. BENEFITS OF ELECTRIC CARS? When comparing EVs against your standard combustion engines (petrol and diesel) there are several benefits. • You are helping the environment by reducing your Co2 contributions. • Electric cars are faster on acceleration, Tesla has proven this with their Ludicrous mode. • Cheaper to run as it’s cheaper to charge a battery than it is to fill up at the pump. Plus servicing is cheaper as EV cars have fewer moving parts. • No more visiting fuel stations. Just charge your battery when you’re not using your vehicle at your convenience. Electric cars will soon be the same price as buying a combustion engine car, as the government pushes to reduce emissions. HOW LONG DO ELECTRIC CAR BATTERIES LAST? When buying a new electric car you are more than likely going to receive a battery warranty with your car package. These are normally for 8-years or up to 100,000-miles, whichever comes first. Currently, there are no actual facts to prove the length of a battery’s life span as the technology is so new. We have seen a few high mileage electric cars that haven’t really suffered even a small amount of degradation. 9
