Kinburn will celebrate its murky history this weekend with music, food, and fun for the kids. Swamp Fest takes its name from a public house that operated near the village in the 1800s. The hotel would have offered music and food – just like Swamp Fest will do. “People are getting excited about it,” said one of the organizers, Jim Armstrong. “The music will be top notch; you’re not going to find any better.” All events are at the Kinburn Community Centre, 3045 Kinburn Side Rd. Saturday, Aug. 28, is the big day, offering music from noon to midnight for a $20 admission fee. Performers include: • Gail Gaven • Huntley Slim and the Suburban Cowboys • Kinburn’s own Cindy Thompson • Howard Hayes
• Triple Play • Darlene Thibault • The Sarah Burnell Band • Running Naked Band. TENT GOES UP Organizers have made sure weather won’t be an issue, setting up a 20by-30-metre tent for the shows. Saturday evening means a Settlers Dinner of ham, beans, and corn: what Armstrong calls “old-fashioned fast food.” Armstrong said visitors can expect to see an agricultural equipment display with some antiques, including a dog powered butter churner. Re-enactors will be cooking with traditional materials and there will be children’s games. On Friday, admission is free for the family corn roast, bonfire, barbecue and music. Sunday features a Firemen’s Breakfast from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. See ‘Stagecoach’ page 3
