The second annual Shinny with the Big Boys welcomed a couple of special guests all the way from New Zealand. Brothers Jack and Kyle Swift were visiting their dad Blake’s hometown of Ottawa all the way from down under on Jan. 22. They participated in the Huntley Community Association event that saw former junior and European professional players take on each other and then welcome little players on the ice with them. The Swift boys play hockey at their city’s only rink. “It’s growing,” Jack said. “I’d say it’s growing slowly, but it is growing.” The challenge is the cost of hockey equipment. The boys tend to stock up when in Canada, where their father won a junior title with the Arnprior Packers in 1979. It is mostly expat Canadians and their kids who take up the sport in their city. “The best way to find Canadians Allan Joyner/Submitted is at the rink,” Jack said.
