Some residents living in the Carp Ridge and Corkery areas have noticed an uptick in helicopter noise and many aren’t pleased with the constant drone. Carp Airport manager Mark
Braithwaite said he’d be open to creating a committee of residents and airport members to address the noise issue. “I’d be interested in sitting down with them to create a solution,” he said. See the full story on pages 6-7
The annual Carp Fair Men’s Night yielded more than $14,000 to support those with cancer on March 24, but some highly questionable remarks came out of the otherwise positive event as well. The West Carleton Review wrote an editorial on the incident decrying inappropriate comments without identifying who said what or what was specifically said. The Toronto Star has since revealed that Carleton-Mississippi Mills MPP Jack MacLaren was the source of crude humour aimed at KanataCarleton MP Karen McCrimmon and her husband. His attempt at humour reportedly silenced and disgusted many in the crowd.
The joke, referencing McCrimmon and her husband’s sexual relationship, was made by MacLaren as he addressed the crowd at the men’s night after convincing McCrimmon to come up on stage, reported the Star. The joke, apparently taken from a raunchy Irish joke about a husband “between the legs” of his wife, was met with no applause whatsoever, said a long time Carp Fair board member to the Star. But that’s not because it had no impact, said McCrimmon. “They were mortified,” she said of the men’s night crowd. “That was good to see,” said McCrimmon of the reaction. “I didn’t feel like I was wearing that on my own. They were all their with me.” See MP, page 2
