The city’s election compliance audit committee voted to audit two councillors, including West Carleton-March Coun. Eli El-Chantiry, at a meeting on July 10.

The meeting was chaired by J.P. Kingsley, former head of Elections Canada, to consider audit applications, submitted by Nepean resident Pat Ready, against six councillors. A decision to grant an audit does not mean a councillor broke campaign finance rules, it was emphasized at the meeting. Ready alleged that El-Chantiry didn’t accurately report the value of his campaign signs, which could mean the councillor overspent his legal campaign contribution limit. See COST, page 2
