Constance Bay rallies in support of fire victims Scott Campbell scottcampbell@metroland.com
Constance Bay residents have once again shown how generous the close-knit community is. “This is all just amazing,” Tammie Walker on July 20 after finding out the community, led by local firefighters, had rallied behind the beleaguered family. The Ottawa Fire Services firefighters from Station 63 presented the Walker family with $5,000 to help them get back on their feet
after a devastating fire struck their Constance Bay home. The blaze on June 24 left Tammie, her husband Andrew, their daughter and their two dogs without their home in Constance Bay. The Bayview Drive residence was a place they had called home for 13 years, but unfortunately, they didn’t have insurance. Fortunately, Kayla, a shepherd collie mix, alerted the family to the fire and allowed everyone to evacuate safely. See FIREFIGHTERS, page 3
Cadets to march to honour veterans Staff
More than 400 cadets will march through Carp this Friday, July 29 to honour local veterans. The cadets from the Connaught Cadet Training Centre will march down Donald B. Munro Road from 10 to 10:30 a.m. in a Veteran Appreciation Parade. The 60 members of Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Ontario Sea Cadet Band will play instrumental music during the pa-
rade. Following the parade, a memorial service will be held at the newly erected West Carleton War Memorial. “This parade is to honour and show appreciation to the veterans who have selflessly served our country,” say organizers in a news release. The parade will necessitate a road closure of 30 to 40 minutes along Donald B. Munro Road. See PARADE, page 3
