HOLLYWOOD — Disney was quick to consider “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” a bomb after it only grossed $303.6 million after its first two weeks with a budget of $295 million!

Did you know Steven Spielberg’s original choice for Indiana Jones was Tom Selleck?

In 1980, Spielberg made no secret Selleck was his choice for Indiana Jones and asked CBS to release Selleck from his contract 10 days early.

But it seems that Spielberg’s praise was all CBS needed. Knowing a good thing when they saw it, CBS decided to greenlight the pilot for a crime drama series they had shot, which is how Selleck became “Magnum, P.I.”

Disappointed at losing the chance at playing the role in what was guaranteed to become a franchise, Selleck flew to Hawaii and rented a house at Black’s Beach.

The next day, the Screen Actors Guild announced their actors’ strike, and he lost his salary, forcing him to do landscaping for his landlord in order to pay his rent.

During the five month strike, Spielberg signed a waiver with SAG, cast Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones and began shooting on June 23, 1980, during the strike.

Fortunately, “Magnum” became a huge hit, and in 1982, director Blake

Q:I recently started rewatching the Netflix show “Suits,” the one Meghan Markle acted in before she married Prince Harry. Are they going to have new episodes or just reruns? — K.L.

A: “Suits” is the latest series to amass a huge audience after Netflix began making the original episodes available to its subscribers. It ran for nine seasons on the USA Network, ending in 2019, and was then made available to subscribers of Peacock and Amazon Prime Video. However, this past June, the streaming giant Netflix acquired it, and the ratings soared, making it “one of the biggest shows on the planet,” according to TVLine.

“Suits” is just one of several series that expanded its audience by millions once it hit Netflix. Other notable ones include “Lucifer” and “Manifest.” Gene Klein, executive producer of “Suits,” told TVLine that he’s not currently aware of any planned revival of the show with new scripts and new episodes (once the Writers Guild of America and Screen Actors Guild strikes get resolved), but that he wouldn’t be surprised if he got a call someday with a proposal. When

2. Oppenheimer (R) Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt

3. Haunted Mansion (PG13) LaKeith Stanfield, Rosario Dawson

4. Sound of Freedom (PG13) Jim Caviezel, Mira Sorvino

5. Mission: Impossible

Edwards wanted Selleck to star opposite Julie Andrews in “Victor/Victoria.” But CBS added four more seasons of “Magnum,” and he had to pass, but recommended James Garner, who he worked with on two episodes of “The Rockford Files.”

Then, in 1985, Selleck was offered the starring role in “Witness,” but CBS, again, decided to add more seasons of “Magnum.” So, the role, again, went to Ford, who received an Oscar

nomination for the film.

Later on in 1987, Selleck starred in “Three Men and a Baby,” with Ted Danson and Steve Guttenberg, which cost $15 million and grossed $240 million.

Starting in 2005, Selleck starred in “Stone Cold,” the first of nine made-for-TV films based on the “Jesse Stone” novels. In 2010, he became police commissioner Frank Reagan in “Blue Bloods,” which has been renewed for its 14th season. So, “Indi-

ana Jones” is officially done after five films, but “Blue Bloods” keeps rolling along.

The streaming services have blown CBS, NBC, ABC and Fox out of the water with primetime Emmy nominations. The networks didn’t receive any nominations in the Drama categories for Lead Actor, Lead Actress, Supporting Actor or Supporting Actress. “Abbott Elementary” did receive a nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series, as well as nominations for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (Quinta Brunson) and Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Tyler James Williams).

Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers and Stephen Colbert were nominated in the Talk Series category — but not Jimmy Fallon, who only saw his game show “That’s My Jam” get nominated. “Amazing Race” and “Survivor” got nods for the Competition Program category, “The Simpsons” for the Animated category, and “Shark Tank” for Structured Reality. Lastly, “Family Feud,” “Jeopardy,” “The Price Is Right” and “Wheel of Fortune” were the rest of the Game Show noms. This must be why Hollywood is referring to these networks as the “screaming service” networks!

Holmes debuted as Joey on another series, “Dawson’s Creek,” and went on to become a big star in Hollywood.

Future A-lister Ryan Reynolds said he turned down the chance to play Buffy’s wisecracking pal Xander because he “didn’t want to play a guy in high school.” Reynolds had just come out of high school in real life and said it was “awful.” The part ended up being perfectly cast with actor Nicholas Brendon.

Fuel your busy days with DIY Instant Oatmeal

It’s back to school time already! Can you believe it? Many of us are about to have our lovely relaxing summer come to a screeching halt and the rigors of routine thrown in our sun-kissed, freckled little faces.

With the return of the school year comes a more regimented schedule. Mornings are hectic and anything that relieves stress is a good thing. And making mornings easier isn’t just for families heading back to school! We can all use a little help to ensure an easy start to our days.

One way to reduce stress is to have an inexpensive, nutritious and delicious breakfast that cooks in only one minute. I’m happy to share my secret weapon to destress mornings: DIY instant oatmeal packets.

Yes, you can buy premade instant oatmeal packets inexpensively, but look!

The average cost is about 50 cents a packet, and most people eat at least two. Making them yourself brings the cost down to 20 cents per packet or less. And you get to make them exactly how you like them. You can reduce the sugar and make flavor combinations the Quaker dude never thought of.

DIY INSTANT OATMEAL PACKETS

Yield: Approximately

18 packets

Time: 10 minutes 10 cups quick oats,

divided 1 teaspoon salt

1 cup brown sugar, or more to taste

1 cup powdered milk, optional

2 tablespoons cinnamon

1 to 2 cups add-ins, optional – see below for ideas

18 to 20 snack-size zip-top bags

Put 7 cups of the oats in a large bowl. Place the remaining 3 cups of oats in a food processor or blender. Blend until powdery, then pour into the bowl with the whole oats. Add the salt, brown sugar, powdered milk (see tip below) and cinnamon in the large bowl. Mix well until combined.

Measure 1/2 cup of the oatmeal mixture along with 1 to 2 tablespoons of add-ins into each snack-size zip-top baggie and seal. Store the baggies in your pantry, or in the freezer for the longest shelf life.

Tip: If you prefer making oatmeal with milk, you can skip the powdered milk altogether. For costsaving options, try using a combination of half milk and half water. Personally, I find that making it with milk during cooking enhances the flavor compared to using water and powdered milk.

To use the packets: Pour the contents of a packet in a bowl and add the desired amount of water or milk. Start with 3/4 cup and adjust to the thickness you desire. Microwave on high for 1 minute, stir

and serve. Now here’s the fun part. You can put whatever goodies you like into your oatmeal packets.

Some ideas: raisins, pumpkin pie spice, freeze dried strawberries, dried blueberries and slivered almonds, any variety of trail mix, mini chocolate chips and coconut, dried cranberries and pistachios, dried bananas and walnuts, dried apple and crystallized ginger, chopped pecans and maple syrup. The list goes on ... You can also use these packets for overnight oatmeal. Just place the contents of a packet in a bowl, add milk or milk substitute, and refrigerate overnight. Serve cold or heat in the microwave.

Bonus! The plastic baggies can be reused many times because they don’t get dirty. Start your days off right with these convenient and budgetfriendly DIY instant oatmeal packets. With just a minute away from a wholesome meal, you’ll have more time, money and peace of mind to tackle whatever the day brings. So, stock up on these delightful packets and savor the stressfree mornings ahead!
