To benefit Arc of Westchester
Dear Friends and Fellow Parents, Welcome back or welcome aboard to A Matter of Taste, the Arc of Westchester’s signature fundraising event. Each year generous supporters such as you make it bigger and better—helping to ensure that Arc of Westchester can continue to provide comprehensive services to thousands of people of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Once again, our volunteer committee and staff members have worked tirelessly to provide you with a lively evening, infused with camaraderie and the joy of giving. Please be sure to enjoy the delicious food, wine, spirits, and beer provided by the outstanding restaurants and companies that give so much to support the important work done at the Arc of Westchester. We are grateful to our cuisine co-chairs Peter Herrero, Jr. and Rick Ross for their expertise and generosity, and to Deutsch Family Wine and Spirits, whose bounteous contributions over the past few years have helped redefine the event. Tonight’s honorees are truly special. We are thrilled to celebrate the contributions of John M. and Katharine Wilson Conroy—the Foundation’s first president—whose wisdom, energy and storehouse of knowledge permeates every aspect of the Arc of Westchester. We are also grateful to our business partner Jackson Lewis, for creating job opportunities through its commitment to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. These honorees exemplify the positive “can do” attitude that guides all that we do at the Arc of Westchester, as we endeavor to unlock potential in everyone we serve. It has been a banner year for the Arc of Westchester Foundation—a year in which we received our first $1 million grant. As always, we strive to inspire trust, ensure continuity, and pursue excellence in all that we do. We are grateful to have you by our side, as we pursue our goal of providing quality services through the entire Arc of a Life. Cheers!

Welcome On behalf of the Arc of Westchester Foundation, and the event committee, welcome to our 12th Annual A Matter of Taste. Thank you for coming tonight and for bringing your friends and family. Your support of this event makes a significant difference in the lives of the 2,000 individuals in Westchester County with intellectual and developmental disabilities served by Arc of Westchester every day. A Matter of Taste is designed for you to enjoy some of the best food and beverages from Westchester in one of the most beautiful settings the County has to offer. When you purchase tickets, fabulous silent and live auction items, and wines from our exciting wine pull, you become a member of the Arc of Westchester family of supporters who enable it to stay innovative, caring and professional. A special thank you and welcome back to our returning chefs, including some who have been with us since the start of this event 12 years ago. We are also excited to welcome many who are new to the event this year. Thank you also to Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits, returning as our wine and beverage sponsor. We hope that you too will thank our restaurant and beverage sponsors for their generosity by enjoying their fine wines, craft beers and delicious cuisine throughout the year. Enjoy your evening reminiscing with old friends, making memories with new ones, congratulating our honorees and knowing that your dedication and support tonight, as well as throughout the year, are greatly appreciated. Dear Friends, Thank you for joining us at the 12th annual A Matter of Taste at the beautiful Westchester Country Club. Each year, this important fundraising event brings together more than 400 members of the Arc of Westchester family to raise funds for critically needed programs and services for more than 2,000 people of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Because of you, and all of our other generous supporters, A Matter of Taste has raised more than $1.5 million over the past 11 years. Thank you for your unwavering commitment. Tonight we honor John and Katharine Conroy with the Lifetime Achievement Award for their extraordinary contribution and exemplary service to the Arc of Westchester. We also honor Jackson Lewis PC with the Business Partner Award for their enlightened employment policies that provide opportunities for people with developmental disabilities. As we approach the end of the year, we are thankful for the successes that we see every day at the Arc of Westchester. Let’s continue to be as generous as possible so that the people we are privileged to serve can continue to achieve with us. Many thanks,

Lifetime Achievement Award
John M. and Katharine Wilson Conroy Rarely do you find a couple as committed to civic duty and as active in community affairs as John and Katharine Conroy, Arc of Westchester’s 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award recipients. It is impossible to imagine the Arc of Westchester Foundation without thinking of founding president and director Katharine Wilson Conroy. Katharine’s relationship with Arc of Westchester began almost 20 years ago and, because of her extensive knowledge and passionate involvement, her unique imprint can be felt everywhere. A practicing attorney specializing in trusts and estates, Katharine served as President of NYSARC, Inc., and currently serves as Chair of the NYSARC Guardianship Committee, Trustee of the NYSARC Trust Services, Director on the Arc of Westchester Chapter and Foundation Boards, and Member of the Arc of a Life Campaign Committee. With her knowledge, intelligence, and impish sense of humor, Katharine is truly invaluable to the Arc of Westchester, and continues to set the bar for service and commitment. A former Navy officer, retired teacher and high school principal, Jack has focused his volunteer energy on education and the needs of his local church, Holy Family Parish in New Rochelle, NY. Jack has been active in governance, fundraising, and community outreach efforts, successfully raising awareness and funds for efforts close to his heart, both locally and globally. Some highlights include; building houses for the poor with a parish group in Tecate, Mexico, and serving in director positions on the Interreligious Council of New Rochelle, the Westchester Mental Health Association, and the Adult Learning Board. We are grateful for his longstanding and generous support of the Arc of Westchester and its mission. Married for over 49 years, this Westchester County community service “power couple” lives in New Rochelle, NY, and are the proud parents of five sons and ten grandchildren. With heartfelt appreciation, we honor them with this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award for their extraordinary contribution and exemplary service to the Arc of Westchester.

Arc of Westchester
Business Partner Award
Jackson Lewis PC Jackson Lewis is a preeminent workplace law firm, dedicated to its clients and passionate about providing the highest quality, creative and effective representation of employers on the full range of employment and labor law matters. To this progressive law firm, its motto “All We Do is Work” applies to a broad swath of the population—including those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. In 2013, the firm partnered with Arc of Westchester and hired one of Arc’s talented Project SEARCH Collaborates for Autism graduates. That placement proved to be such a success that the following year the firm hired a second Arc of Westchester program participant. The employment opportunities provided by Jackson Lewis have allowed these young men to succeed both professionally and personally. Each has his own job responsibilities, including monitoring supply levels, shopping to replenish as needed and overseeing kitchen and office maintenance. One of the young men has been put in charge of high level filing, including the transfer of all the firm’s files during its recent move to new offices. Jackson Lewis continues to works closely with the Arc of Westchester support team to ensure that program participants have not only mastered the specifics of their job responsibilities, but are also given opportunities to strengthen their social skills. The team has worked with the young men to improve their eye contact, communications skills and day-to-day interactions with other employees. This partnership has proven to be a “win/win” for Arc of Westchester and Jackson Lewis. Two young men have been given an avenue to improve and showcase their skills, and the firm reaps the benefit of their time and talents, while effecting social change to the benefit of all. Because of its enlightened employment policies that provide important opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, we are honored to present Jackson Lewis with the 2015 Business Partner Award.

Dear Friend, As Co-Chairs of The Arc of a Life Campaign, we are particularly excited to welcome you to the 12th annual A Matter of Taste. For more than 65 years, Arc of Westchester has dedicated itself to making a difference in the lives of thousands of individuals and families. As the population we serve continues to increase, the amount of government support received has decreased significantly. The Arc of a Life Campaign is designed to enable us to meet these challenges and support those in Westchester County who are among our most vulnerable citizens. Tonight, we share the wonderful news that we have passed the halfway mark of our $6,000,000 goal! With contributions and pledges of over $3,000,000 from a number of the Arc of Westchester’s most generous supporters as well as our Board members and Campaign Committee, we are excited to take the next step – announcing this very special campaign to the general public. The funds raised so far have allowed us to begin new program initiatives, improve our residences and direct support where most needed. In the months ahead, we promise to share news of our campaign progress as we all work to improve the lives of the more than 2,000 individuals of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities who depend on us each and every day. To meet, schedule a tour, or request more information regarding The Arc of a Life Campaign, please visit our website at arcwestchester.org, or contact Nancy Patota, Executive Director of the Arc of Westchester Foundation, at (914) 495-4625 or via e-mail at npatota@arcwestchester.org. We are proud to serve as Co-Chairs of this very important campaign and hope that we can count on your continuing generosity to help us reach our goal. Achieve with us! Warmest regards,
