SPECIAL EVENTS

ARC Fall Classic Pickleball Tournament

Join our Picklers at the ARC Center for our first annual skill based round robin scramble pickleball tournament. This mixer tournament requires no partners, as 8 players of similar skill level will be grouped onto a court. Each player on that court plays a total of 7 games to 15 points. This is similar to a round robin, except you have a different partner for each game. The top two players from each court with the largest winning margin (score the most points and give up the least) are awarded first and second place. Since there will be 9 courts, this is like having 9 tournaments simultaneously! Awards and lunch of sub sandwiches, salads, chips, cookies and water included. (ML) 18+ yrs

Keppler Academy

2017-18 School Year

Introduction & Philosophy The West Chicago Park District’s Keppler Academy Preschool focuses on the developmental needs of children from three to five years old. Keppler Academy is designed to give children the tools and experiences necessary to assure a positive transition to kindergarten. Our program offers a warm, nurturing, and friendly environment where children can explore, create, and flourish. Socialization skills and independence are developed through a variety of daily skills and exercises. Our philosophy is that all children learn through hands-on experiences, exploration, and positive interactions with others. Every child is unique and will develop at their own pace. We foster an environment that will help all children succeed emotionally, physically, and socially. Every child has their own learning style and we give many options to explore and build on those abilities. (GR)

MARTIAL ARTS Judo (sport): Simple and Basic

Dragon Tots

Judo is two individuals who, by gripping uniforms, use forces of balance, power, timing and physics to subdue their opponents. Judo does not use striking techniques of any kind. It’s a purely defensive sport, based on other’s aggressive moves. It involves techniques of throwing, grappling, submission holds. It all starts from a standing position and then moves to the ground for submission techniques or to pin your opponent. Promotions are based on competitions from green, brown and black belt ranks. Uniforms are mandatory as are four competitions per year. Great cross training for wrestlers. (JU)

Structured on semi-traditional format, emphasizes self-discipline, accountability, goal setting and respect. Participants learn basic techniques utilizing coordination, balance, timing and repetition.

ADULT ATHLETICS Drop In Pickleball

Pickleball Player Ranking Session

If you haven’t heard of or played Pickleball, you’re missing out on the biggest craze since the Hoola Hoop! Pickleball is traditionally played on a badminton-sized court with special Pickleball paddles and a ball similar to a whiffle ball, but slightly smaller. The lower net and whiffle ball allow the game to be accessible to people of all ages and abilities, while still allowing more competitive players to test their mettle. It was created with one thing in mind: FUN! It is easy to learn and play so, grab a few friends and head to the ARC Center and give Pickleball a try! (ML)

Instructor Kirk Lingner, Ambassador and Club Pro Illini Pickleball Club and a USAPA-ranked 5.0 player will be here to rank players. Ranking is important for those players that may be interested in participating in tournaments or clinics specific to player ranking level. Kirk does this by observing players in action and playing with them during a few games. Players register and will be called the week prior to choose a 30 minute timeslot. There is room for 1player per 30 minute time slot. Drop-in pickleball fee included in session cost. (ML) 18+ yrs

Whether you have never played or you are looking to elevate your skills to the next level, the following drill days have something for everyone. Please wear gym shoes and comfortable clothes.

NEWS UPDATE

Coming Soon During the summer of 2014, the West

Chicago Park District was awarded a PARC grant from the

Illinois Department of Natural Resources. (Parks and Recreation Construction). This was a competitive process, and West Chicago was one of the first to receive the award. The purpose of the award was to create

large group activity spaces,

and West Chicago Park District wished to emphasize opportunities for sport and athletic performance and training, along with ancillary features.

Construction of ZONE250

will begin soon. Over the past few years the District has made way for this addition by

removing its old maintenance garage and removing the area occupied by the Gun Club. With this additional space, the District has an opportunity to expand

the campus of activities

in Reed Keppler Park, and offer another complimentary

venue.

ZONE250 will feature hardwood floors and have the capability for open play, practices, games, tournaments, skill development, events and a variety of multipurpose activities. The primary uses will center around classes, basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball and soccer. Certainly, one of the overall emphases will be the opportunity for youth to develop athletic and performance skills at an early age. ZONE250 will be an excellent complement to the ARC Center, and allow for even greater individual and group programs. Look for a grand opening March of 2018!
