PRESCHOOL 2018 - 2019 School Year

Keppler Academy Introduction & Philosophy

The West Chicago Park District’s Keppler Academy Preschool focuses on the developmental needs of children from three to five years old. Keppler Academy is designed to give children the tools and experiences necessary to assure a positive transition to kindergarten. Our program offers a warm, nurturing, and friendly environment where children can explore, create, and flourish. Socialization skills and independence are developed through a variety of daily skills and exercises. Our philosophy is that all children learn through hands-on experiences, exploration, and positive interactions with others. Every child is unique and will develop at their own pace. We foster an environment that will help all children succeed emotionally, physically, and socially. Every child has their own learning style and we give many options to explore and build on those abilities. (GR)

Registration, Payment & Additional Information Registration for the 2018/19 school year began March 1 for residents and March 7 for non-residents. Children must be age appropriate for program by September 1, 2018. There is a $50 fee per child due at the time of registration to secure your child’s place in the program. The fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. Take advantage of our convenient monthly EFT (Electronic Fund Transfer) payment plan where payments are automatically withdrawn from your credit or debit card on the first of the month (September through May). All yearly fees must be paid in full at time of registration. Keppler Academy is located at 161 W. National Street in West Chicago. Keppler Academy follows District 33’s days off school calendar.

This workshop is a unique opportunity for parent(s) and child(ren) to come together and carve out time to learn strategies to calm bodies and quiet minds. Many families are scattered, overscheduled, and disconnected. This workshop introduces a S.A.F.E (simple, accessible, fun, effective) time together and a resource to transport this sense of peacefulness into their homes. The workshop will offer time for parents and children to have one-on-one conversation and will offer a creative activity for children to assist in making their own ‘magic pillow’. Both parent and child will go home with their own magic pillow! (GR) 4-10 yrs

FITNESS Yin Yoga

Pilates

Enjoy the healing benefits of Yin Yoga for both the mind and the body. This style of yoga is a more meditative approach with a physical focus that goes much deeper to access the deep connective tissues within the body that encompass a joint, such as the hips, pelvis, and lower spine. Yin Yoga postures are done mainly on the floor, and are unique in that you are asked to relax in the posture, soften the muscles and focus on the breath as you hold each posture for several minutes. As one ages, flexibility in the joints decreases, and Yin Yoga is a wonderful way to maintain that flexibility and live a healthy way of life. (KK)

This class will help balance your body, improve circulation, reduce stress and improve overall endurance. Pilates will help tone, streamline and realign your body. This class is a combination of beginning and intermediate levels of Pilates. (KK)

PARK MAP Cornerstone Lakes Park

Kress Creek Farms

Reed-Keppler Park

Cornerstone Lakes Park is located along Smith Road on the north side of the city. Featuring a 25-acre lake for catch and release fishing, one playground, an asphalt trail, seven soccer fields, a sand volleyball court, one baseball/softball diamond, a picnic shelter, and native landscaping, the park is picture perfect for a Sunday afternoon.

On a sunny weekend you’ll find plenty of activity at Kress Creek Farms since it houses our 18 cage Disc Golf Course, Chicago Bears themed playground and trail system. Located along Joliet Street on the south side of the city, Kress Creek Farms has rolling hills, native landscaping, and a small pond for catch and release fishing.

Reed-Keppler Park is West Chicago’s premier park. The park contains the ever popular Turtle Splash Water Park, six baseball/softball diamonds, four picnic shelters, skate park, a two-acre dog park named Wiggly Field, Keppler Academy Preschool, several trails, and multiple playgrounds. Adjacent to Reed-Keppler Park is the Geneva Spur bike trail, an integral part of the Illinois Prairie Path system and the Dyer Nature area. Through the generosity of John and Joan Dyer and their appreciation of natural lands they have donated 25 acres of prairie and wetlands named after them in their honor. Reed-Keppler Park is the home to the ARC Center (Athletics, Recreation & Community) and ZONE250 a sports performance training facility.

Dyer Riverwood Farm Park This seven-acre site donated by John and Joan Dyer is bordered on the west side by the DuPage River. As part of an intergovernmental agreement between the West Chicago Park District and the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, the park now contains a bike trail that links to the Illinois Prairie Path System.

Easton Park Located on the south side of Washington Street in the City of West Chicago. In addition, ash trees have been replaced in the park though a $10,000 Urban Restoration grant. Easton Park contains a playground, a catch and release pond, trails and picnic areas and new pavilion.

Hampton Hills & Prince Crossing Parks Located adjacent to Hampton Hills and Prince Crossing Trails subdivisions, these two parks make up one great neighborhood park. The Hampton Hills side which is accessible at 719 Hampton Course Drive features a catch and release pond, gazebo and path system. The Prince Crossing side which is accessible at 900 McCormick Lane features a playground and path system.

Hawthorne Park

Kwasman Memorial Park This neighborhood park is located within the Forest Trails subdivision and has been renamed in honor of former Mayor Mike Kwasman. The park contains a playground and is adjacent to the Illinois Prairie Path and Great Western Trail intersects for easy access.

Meadow Wood Park Ideally situated in Meadow Wood subdivision along Klein Road, this sevenacre park features a playground and picnic shelter and is the host to many lacrosse games.

Pioneer Park This community park is located on the south side of the city. Pioneer Park features a pond, two pavilions, a playground, a soccer field and four baseball/softball fields. A more expansive grass area is being developed for soccer.

Prestonfield Park Significant features of this park located in the Prestonfield subdivision are a buffer woodland area, playground, and picnic shelter. The property is monitored by the Mighty Acorn, a school-aged children’s group who assists the Park District with conservation efforts while learning about nature.

Located adjacent to the City of West Chicago’s water treatment facility in the industrial park, this park features native plantings and a pond.

West Chicago Park District and the ADA The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) took effect in January 1990 and the West Chicago Park District complies with the legislation’s purpose which prohibits discrimination on the basis of a disability. The West Chicago Park District will make reasonable accommodations in recreation programs to enable participation by an individual with a disability that meets essential eligibility requirements for that leisure program and facilities. The ADA requires that recreation programs offered by the Park District be available in the most integrated setting appropriate for each individual. Persons with disabilities are encouraged to contact the park district at 630.231.9474 about special accommodations needed for the enjoyment of park district programs. Those who use the Telecommunications Device for the Deaf (TDD) may reach the park district by calling 800.735.2962 If you have questions about west Chicago Park District’s commitment regarding the ADA policy or you believe you have been unfairly discriminated against by the Park District, please call us at 630.231.9474.

Warning of Risk Recreational activities are intended to challenge and engage the physical, mental, and emotional resources of each participant. Despite careful and proper preparation, instruction, medical advice, conditioning, and equipment, there is still a risk of serious injury when participating in any recreational activity. Understandably, not all hazards and dangers can be foreseen. Depending on the activity, certain risks, dangers, and injuries can occur due to inclement weather, slips and falls, poor skill level or conditioning, carelessness, horseplay, unsportsmanlike conduct, premises defects, inadequate or defective equipment, inadequate supervision, instruction or officiating and all other circumstances inherent to indoor and outdoor recreational activities. The West Chicago Park District is committed to conducting all recreation programs and activities in a safe manner. We continually strive to reduce such risks and insist that all participants follow safety rules and instructions. However, it is impossible for the West Chicago Park District to guarantee absolute safety.
