Keppler Academy
2017-18 School Year
Introduction & Philosophy The West Chicago Park District’s Keppler Academy Preschool focuses on the developmental needs of children from three to five years old. Keppler Academy is designed to give children the tools and experiences necessary to assure a positive transition to kindergarten. Our program offers a warm, nurturing, and friendly environment where children can explore, create, and flourish. Socialization skills and independence are developed through a variety of daily skills and exercises. Our philosophy is that all children learn through hands-on experiences, exploration, and positive interactions with others. Every child is unique and will develop at their own pace. We foster an environment that will help all children succeed emotionally, physically, and socially. Every child has their own learning style and we give many options to explore and build on those abilities. (GR)
Registration, Payment & Additional Information Registration now being accepted for the 2017-18 school year. Children must be age appropriate for program by September 1, 2017. Judo is two individuals who, by gripping uniforms, use forces of balance, power, timing and physics to subdue their opponents. Judo does not use striking techniques of any kind. It’s a purely defensive sport, based on other’s aggressive moves. It involves techniques of throwing, grappling, submission holds. It all starts from a standing position and then moves to the ground for submission techniques or to pin your opponent. Promotions are based on competitions from green, brown and black belt ranks. Uniforms are mandatory as are four competitions per year. Great cross training for wrestlers. (JU)

Jump on the bus as we cruise to Vallli Produce International Market in Glendale Heights. Valli Produce International Fresh Market is proudly named after its founder, Alfredo Presta”s, home, a small farm town in Calabria, Italy. The people from Valli were extremely hard working and the small community was like a big family. Alfredo held several jobs in America but he always knew his true calling was in retail produce. In 1977, Alfredo opened his first produce store in Chicago with his nephew, Guido and in 1989, they opened the first Valli Produce in the suburban Arlington Heights. Many new amenities have been added to our stores with the evolution of the food business since 1977 but everyone at Valli Produce has stayed true to their roots of fresh food, friendly service, and hard work. There will be plenty of time for shopping and to enjoy lunch before heading home. Lunch cost is on your own at Valli’s. (ML)

NEWS UPDATE
Coming Soon During the summer of 2014, the West
Chicago Park District was awarded a PARC grant from the
Illinois Department of Natural Resources. (Parks and Recreation Construction). This was a competitive process, and West Chicago was one of the first to receive the award. The purpose of the award was to create
large group activity spaces,
and West Chicago Park District wished to emphasize opportunities for sport and athletic performance and training, along with ancillary features.
Construction of ZONE250
will begin soon. Over the past few years the District has made way for this addition by
removing its old maintenance garage and removing the area occupied by the Gun Club. With this additional space, the District has an opportunity to expand
the campus of activities
in Reed Keppler Park, and offer another complimentary
venue.
ZONE250 will feature hardwood floors and have the capability for open play, practices, games, tournaments, skill development, events and a variety of multipurpose activities. The primary uses will center around classes, basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball and soccer. Certainly, one of the overall emphases will be the opportunity for youth to develop athletic and performance skills at an early age. ZONE250 will be an excellent complement to the ARC Center, and allow for even greater individual and group programs. ZONE will open February of 2018!
