THE CREATIVE TEAM

Hurry Hard is far from the first sports show to cross WCT’s stages. Recently, we have explored winter sports with shows such as Glory–a world premiere about the Preston Rivulets hockey team–from our 2017-2018 Season, and The New Canadian Curling Club from our 2019-2020 Season. Another curlingbased play, The Black Bonspiel of Wullie MacCrimmon, was featured, not once, but twice at WCT (1983 & 1996). Hurry Hard is a show that promises to bring the same camaraderie, hilarity, and heart that these past sports shows have shown us.

Arts and sports have typically been on either end of the entertainment industry, but both are rooted in the same practice; to provide a performance, showcase the human spirit, and build community. Excitement. A thrill. Any sports fanatic or theatre enthusiast can tell you about the excitement they feel when sitting in an audience, surrounded by those with a love for the sport, on the edge of their seat with anticipation for the show to begin.

Both performances take you on a journey, one with highs of scoring goals and lows of seeing our heroes knocked down. We watch those we cheer for pick themselves up and dust themselves off, win or lose. Regardless, we feel proud of what we were there to see and leave with a feeling of satisfaction. Whether the outcome was what we wanted or not, we leave feeling content in what we’ve witnessed and that we got to share it with those around us.

Like a sports game, every theatre performance is different. As hard as we try to maintain the same show night after night, every production is different because every audience is different. Some nights, there are loud laughers in the audience and other nights, everyone remains quiet with anticipation or suspense. These live performances are about the people that surround you as much as they are about the game.

We are so fortunate to live in a city that supports the arts as much as they support the sports industry. WCT hopes to continue to foster a relationship with the athletic organizations in the community and the groups that continue to come into our city. We are grateful to partner with various organizations, including the 2023 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, the annual Canadian women’s curling championship, and the Kamloops Blazers, the beloved local junior ice hockey team.

We look forward to bringing you these sports shows that continue to delight Kamloops audiences. Hurry Hard is a comedic, heartwarming journey that is sure to have you believing in second chances. Please enjoy this sure-to-be curling classic, featuring a cast and creative team full of local artists and have a bonspiel of a good time.
