DALBY DELICIOUS AND DELIGHTFUL FESTIVAL

The seventh annual Delicious and DeLIGHTful festival is over for another year and has been hailed an enormous success by both the organising committee and those who attended the event. Held each year in August, the festival celebrates our multicultural community through entertainment, food and activities and hosts the regions only night time lantern parade. A small, dedicated team make up the Dalby Welcoming Community Committee, the volunteer group who are responsible for the roll out of this important community event. Along with its sponsors and supporters, community and organisation volunteers, the flagship event continues to grow and evolve to provide a quality festival that fits the vibrant nature of Dalby and the surrounding region. Festival favourites include a full entertainment program, food stalls, the amazing lantern parade and fireworks and the many activities for adults and children to enjoy both on Saturday and Sunday. This year was a year of change, with many new additions to expand the festival and give the community much more to participate in and enjoy whilst attending.

The multicultural volleyball competition was a huge success, with ten teams fighting it out for supremacy during Saturday afternoon, with hundreds of onlookers cheering on their favourite teams. The event was graciously run by the QUT Big Lift team and after three rounds and 14 games, the Cook Islands Oakey group took out the top prize, closely followed by Brumby’s Bakery Highlander team, in third place was the Dalby Filipino Group. It was a nail biting final with very close scores adding to the excitement of the main festival day.

For the first time this year, the festival included Make-it, Bake-it, Grow-it market stalls on both days offering creative people the opportunity to sell their wares over the entire weekend. Our food vendors were encouraged to stay for Sunday to offer second day festival goers more variety of food.
