ORIGIN UPDATE Science, maths, engineering and technology – they’re all pretty important, but for high school students, sometimes you’d rather be out kicking the footy or catching up with friends. So we’re pretty excited about a new education program that not only aims to make science, maths and engineering more entertaining, but will also show how these streams play such a big part in our everyday lives, including how they can open up so many doors for rewarding careers. Australia Pacific LNG is contributing to this new $400,000 Schools Program to support local students who have an interest in science, maths, engineering and technology. The Schools Program will help raise the profile and interest in science, mathematics, engineering and technology in 35 state schools and 6 independent schools, from Dalby to Roma and surrounding communities including Miles and Chinchilla. The program will cater for the different needs of students in years 7-8-9, 10-11, and 12, and each school will undertake a science project with support and advice from university graduates and industry experts. Origin, on behalf of Australia Pacific LNG and other coal seam gas (CSG) companies Arrow Energy, QGC and Santos GLNG have each contributed $100,000 to fund the Schools Program. Finally, you may have seen our CARS (Caring About Road Safety) driver training with high school students from Miles and Tara occurring this week. Students complete a half day practical driver training course on controlled local roads, with RACQ instructors encouraging good driving habits. Students drive with their peers in the car and can even have the radio on to replicate a ‘real world’ situation. The training also counts towards their log book hours to give Mum or Dad a break! Until next time, take care and stay safe. Rob Hart Regional Manager: Qld Coal Seam Gas
