Anzac Day 2014 There was a great turn out for the ANZAC Day Dawn Service this year; we had over 110 people roll up on a beautiful Friday morning. Let us give a big thanks to the Jandowae Lions Club for the catering, and the other people who assisted at the morning and lunch time events, and also those who were present. Our midday parade was a little quiet and down on numbers this year. We will work on the music side of things for next year, as the pipe band has aged as well, and are no longer together. The RSL / Community Hall was packed with Proud Australians wishing to hear the words of our guest speaker from Oakey. Although he is young, his passion for the event was given through his speech, as I’m sure all that were there would agree. Let me thank all those who gave up their time and effort for the day; people like Grace Ireland, Jandowae State School for their great songs, the bar staff and again the Jandowae Lions Club for the wonderful food and drink, Alistar and Bronwyn (Middle Pub) for their donation of the rum for the morning ceremony, and all those who attended the 11.00 am march through Jandowae (sorry if I have missed anybody.) Next year is the 100th year of ANZAC and we are already putting ideas together to make it a worthy event. We seem to be getting better as the years roll on, but like all the organisations in the town, we are struggling to find help. However, we still put on a good function for our diggers and returned servicemen and women. I believe the people of Australia, young and old, are starting to RE-understand more and more as the years go on, that the sacrifices that were made by others for us is a very powerful statement, and when we look at what is going on in other countries, we do have it pretty good. It’s all thanks to those who put their bodies on the line to protect us and this great land. Thank you all again for a great day, and hope to see you next year. Rick Hogarth

A Note From The Editor We have a new member of the Western Downs Magazines family: Willow Lacee Wood was born on the 14th of April, a beautiful little girl for Michael and Amelia (who is on maternity leave for another 11 months, not that we are counting) and congratulations to Cole on his promotion to ‘big brother’. Mother’s Day is on the horizon now too as we head into May, 2014! I hope all the Mum’s out there are spoilt rotten; it truly is the most challenging, yet rewarding job a woman can ever take on. It’s funny though how until you have your own children, you can never really appreciate what we put our own mothers through! I know for a fact I would still be lost without mine; she’s really one of a kind. Western Downs Magazines are once again proudly sponsoring the wonderful, biennial Jandowae Timbertown Festival in June this year. You can read the full program on page 22 - 25 of this edition. You can keep up-to-date with the latest news as the Festival approaches on their website: www.jandowaetimbertown. org.au Enjoy the cooler weather and your May edition of the Jandowae Mill, I will be back for the July Edition!

Lions News We’ve had March and April Markets since our last newsletter and both market days went very well. Thank you to everyone who either participated or attended. At our April market, we had a lovely fruit tray raffle, with the winning ticket being held by a very happy Hazel Bird. Congratulations Hazel. A slight mistake was made and some people paid $2 instead of $1 for their tickets, but we were able to fix the error by writing out an extra ticket for those who had been overcharged and adding them to the draw, giving them a second ticket and an extra chance. Please accept our sincere apologies. The profits from our April markets will go to the Childhood Cancer Research Foundation. Once again, we provided patrons of the Jandowae Show with our tasty hot chips. Congratulations to all the Show Society workers for their efforts in organizing the Jandowae Show. ANZAC Day is always busy for our Lions Club members, providing food for both the Dawn Service, and later for the service following the march and sounding of The Last Post. At our last dinner meeting, we accepted nominations for new office bearers in preparation for our change over dinner in July, so we will have a new crew at the head of our table. We have been asked to attend the Uniting Church Bazaar with our merry-goround to help entertain and keep the children amused. The Uniting Church Bazaar is to be held on the 3rd May. There is one other interesting event coming up in Saturday 10th May at the Lions Park. The RVAD (Restored Vehicle Association Dalby) will be arriving at the park for us to provide them with a yummy afternoon tea. We do hope that the locals take the opportunity to come for a look. We will be catering for 100 club members who will arrive in their 50/60 cars, so if you can make it that afternoon, it will be a great chance to perhaps reminisce. And of course, many of the drivers will be only to please to show off their pride and joy and probably also happy to have a yarn. Should any locals wish to have a coffee or tea, it will be available for the normal cost. Norma Curd Lions Secretary
Jandowae Scouts DRUM MUSTER NOTICE: Revitalisation of the Drum Muster programme. Please note that the March Muster was drowned out, and more rain was in April (excellent you might say). In the meantime, the Compound at Winfield road was swamped and is now being cleaned up ready for a Muster at the end of May. This will be a chance to tidy up before Timbertown. RING: 0427 908 108 daytimes or 4668 5456 evenings, or email: ors@dodo.com. au to indicate you wish to bring in Drums. For an on-farm drum pickup (expected to be in early July), ring to make a booking. We are also updating all our records in line with new training and management. Please get in touch with us. Scouts are also gearing up for Timbertown and an active winter period. If you know a child or young person aged 6 to 14 years who would like to get involved, have fun and learn self-sufficiency skills, call 0427 908 180 daytimes or 4668 5456 evenings. Jandowae Music Club “Jammin” Session
Jandowae Business & Community Group
The next meeting will be Tuesday, 27th May. Beryl McKenna and neighbour, Evelyn Nauschutz are both opening their gardens for us to enjoy. Come to Beryl’s garden first at 2 Stewart Street, Jandowae. The Nursery Person is Chris from Dalby Landscapes. Alison Banks from the Western Downs Regional Council will be talking about plants from this area.
Even though the numbers were down to about 40, we still had a great day, and let me say it would not happen without the musicians that turn up and give their best to entertain us.
Hello Everybody, Just a quick word today as agenda items are just cruising along, as well as grants and fundraising for the group to have work done around the town.
We have a lot of hidden talent in this area, and these Jammin’ days bring them out for all to see and hear. (What a wonderful world!)
Let me personally thank Jess Flynn from Western Downs Magazines for all the help she is giving the group, with regards to the town signage. I’m sorry to say I have wasted 12 months dealing with another company who can’t fulfil the job at hand.
Jandowae Band always pull off a few good numbers, keeping the crowds entertained, and we had a karaoke singer who laid a bit of Elvis on us. David Grice sang some new tunes as well, and Chris Mitchell pumped out some red hot tunes on the sax, as well as many more artists who let it rip We look forward to seeing you at the gardens of for us. Beryl and Evelyn on 27th May. Please bring lunch to share, chair, mug and hat. All are welcome. Next month’s session is on 11 May (Mother’s Day), so bring mum along to hear some good value Helen Cronin tunes. There maybe even some special treats for the mums (only if their good) and also a feed and a cuppa. We visited the Bunya Mountains on 28th April. Owing to the Magazine deadline being before our trip, the Garden Notes for this trip will be in the Magazine next month.
All for a gold coin donation. What more could you ask for? Keep on grooving to the beat!! Rick Hogarth, Jandowae Memorial Hall Committee
On Easter Sunday, the Business Group and the Jandowae RSL worked well together to run the Easter Bonnet Parade. Thank you to all that helped and hopped up to the event; the children enjoyed the eggs and painting, and photos with the good looking rabbit. Next year the Rabbit would like to see more children and grandparents at the event, as he thinks it is a family event for all to have good clean fun. If you have any ideas for ways the Business Group can help the town, always feel free to have a chat with myself, Brad Bourne, Sharon Baker or Glen Standquist. Don’t forget Timbertown is coming up on the 6-9th of June. If you can help out, just approach anyone from the Committee, as they would love to have your assistance. “Jandowae - it’s a Great Place to be” Rick Hogarth Business and Community Group President

Plans for Life
Active Anglicans We have had a busy time recently with some wonderful services for Easter from Rev. Ma. Fa. David Snape who visited on both occasions to officiate. There was also a warm and generous Baptism Service for young Ruby Black (Stirling & Naomi) and their wonderful extended families. The Guild has also catered for a wonderful family Engagement Party (Bateman). We are also happy to announce that the Archdeacon Rev. Fredk Ailwood (retired but on the special ‘visiting circuit’) is visiting us on a regular basis from 1st June on the first Sunday of the month, 9am at St Paul’s, Jandowae. All welcome for a fUll Eucharist. The Reverend will then be at
the Holy Trinity at During for 11.30am on the third Sunday of the month, then to St. Matthew’s in Bell at 3pm for full Eucharist services in those districts. All are welcome.
Jandowae Queensland Government Agency Program (QGAP) is hosting a morning tea at the Community & Cultural Centre on Wednesday, 4th June 2014 at 10.00am.
Also, don’t forget that the Op Shop is open Saturday mornings. With winter coming, you may find warm clothes and pots/pans which you need for the months ahead.
A representative from the Public Trustee Office in Toowoomba will be in attendance to discuss all aspects of formulating “plans for life”.

Harley Walker D
on't ask 87 year old Harley Walker whether he is thinking of retiring. He says he has retired. For Harley, retirement is running a 162 hectare working property six kilometres from Jandowae, with 30 cows, a bull and border collie, Sally. He has always enjoyed hard work. Harley grew up during the depression. At the age of four he moved with his parents and three brothers from NSW to Darr Creek on the Darling Downs, where his father got work cutting Brigalow scrub. Initially the family lived in a tent and then an old school before moving to a house where the family, which had now grown to 13 children, slept two or three to bed. Harley has vivid memories of bath days when water would be heated in the 12 gallon (45 litre) copper and the children jumped into the same water one after the other. The children attended school at Darr Creek, but before school, there were jobs to do such as milking the cows. They travelled by horse and

a spring board platform of hoop pine to work from. Harley says that the trick here was to jump down before the tree fell. He also learned to use the axe with both right and left hands to scarf or bevel the tree.
Leaving school and going to work at an early age was the only option open to many children during those years. When he was 10 years old, Harley spent six weeks mustering following the 1936 drought. The next year he worked on a dairy farm for 17 shillings and six pence per week, plus free board, while still going to school.
Living alone in a tent in the bush is not everyone's cup of tea, but Harley relished it until he met Lorna and they began courting. Harley would ride his bicycle 21 miles (38 kilometres) along a dirt road to meet Lorna and go to a dance or to the pictures. His best time for the trip was one hour and ten minutes.
Harley's life passion has been timber cutting. He says it is in his blood and from an early age he worked with his father and brother. At 16 he became a professional timber cutter and on the weekends he broke in horses, built tanks and did ring-barking.
Harley and Lorna married and purchased a property near Jandowae where they raised their three daughters and two sons. They are obviously devoted to each other and speak gratefully of their 64 years of married life together
Timber cutting is not easy and is not for the faint-hearted, but Harley believes that his current good health is due to the level of fitness he gained during this period. Starting at 4am, he and his partner would each cut 5,000 super feet of timber for £4/15 shillings a day.
Harley Walker keeps fit. Two operations for open heart surgery and a hip replacement have not slowed him down. He can still shoot straight and regularly goes out spotlighting and is the preferred marksman in the district for dingo and other pest management. His personal motto is “we were meant to wear out, not to rust out”.

Musings
Towns Mills and Bush Mills And no, I’m not talking about Irish whiskey. Sawmilling has been the enduring business and occupation for so many families over most of Jandowae’s existence. There may have been private on-site mills before the first one built in town during the early years of the 20th century. I can find no records of them. Moonie is 50 and We Want You to Help us Celebrate! Do you have a connection with Moonie, either with the oilfields or with the district? Fifty years ago, in 1964, the Moonie Oilfields was built to pump the newly discovered oil reserves. Many people built the facilities here and many more worked, and sometimes lived, at the Moonie Oilfields. The recently balloted farming blocks were being cleared and the pioneering farming and grazing families of the Moonie District looked forward to a wonderful new district that they hoped would grow and prosper. Moonie State School recently celebrated its 50th year as well.

Peter Tout Arabian Race Farrier Stakes Local horse studs, Calga and Sagewood, Arabians and Appaloosas recently experienced sad times with the loss of Peter Tout. However, Olivia has been heartened with the following recent news which has even further consolidated their reputation as A1 horse people and breeders of fine stock for many years. Horse breeding, training and promotion of horses for all disciplines, from Dressage, other performance and Arabian racing can take years for the proof of quality to emerge. Just now Calga and Sagewood have six horses of their breeding competing at National and International levels around Australia and overseas. All the horses are line bred, some with other prefixes and some with the Calga or Sagewood prefix. In the past few weeks, two have qualified in Endurance at National levels and two for International; one of those at the recent Australian 320kms Marathon, with completion and Best Managed achievement. They will go to France to compete in August at the premiere event of the World Series. These results are a fine testament to knowledge of these local Arabian horse breeders, the quality of their stocklines and experience in producing excellent horses. To consistently achieve Best Conditioned in Marathons and World series means the horse must firstly be of excellent type, conformation and athletic predisposition to come in fit, with low heart and bp rates, without ill effects. Breeding, mare care and early management are the first and basically most important step in this process. Opportunity must then follow. Olivia Rose

I found a video about a koala hospital which provoked discussion about reasons for animals getting sick and whether we could help prevent this. We will continue to have discussions and make connections with our living environment. Over the next few weeks, we hope to introduce children to the different environments that animals live in, countries and even make connections to different cultures. Last term, the children helped plant some cucumber and celery seeds which have now taken off. Last week, we planted some tomato, carrot and broccoli seeds. It is wonderful to have so many children willing to help with maintaining our Kindy gardens. The children are learning to share, turn take and cooperate when they work together in the garden as they explore the seed to product process. The Easter bunny seemed to leave chocolate in all sorts of places including “on our camping chairs,” said Jaxson. During the first week of term 2, the children have been learning Australian songs such as “Give Me a Home Among the Gum Trees” and “Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree”. We have also been looking at books about Australian Animals and using the pictures to inspire our drawings and paintings. Eve drew a dingo and Shakoda drew a fish after looking at the pictures in an Australian animals book. We will continue to explore Australian culture and wildlife with direction and input from the children. It will be interesting to see where the children will take their learning and how they will communicate and represent this learning. We have had a fantastic start to the year and made so many new friends. It is wonderful to see the children growing in confidence as they make new friends, negotiate and communicate during role-play situations and develop new skills. Jandowae State School Term 2 has commenced with two wonderful school events showcasing our school – ANZAC Day again saw our school choir perform a beautiful and heartfelt rendition of “Lest We Forget” at the school and the community celebration on Friday, while our school ANZAC Day quilt gained much attention from many people in attendance at the ANZAC service on Friday. Both Mrs Rathmel and Mrs Bartlett have spent hours working with our teachers and children to produce excellent results. The other term 2 event completed was the induction of our School “Chappy” – Matt Stoner. Matt has made a huge impact within our school community since his commencement and we are very grateful for the great work Geoff Sullivan and the chaplaincy committee undertake to ensure our school has the great services that Matt provides our students. Our school-wide positive behaviour support program saw its first group of students gain their rewards targets in the last week of term one. I was privileged to attend a special lunch with these students and staff members to celebrate the occasion. Mrs Woollett and the SWPBS team of staff members have produced a superb school program that is having a great impact with our students. Recent school audits have indicated big improvements our school is making over the last few years with our discipline and curriculum. Active After School community sport is again
proving to be a “winner” with many students and is in its second year at Jandowae. We have nearly thirty students who engage in a range of sports designed to allow them to experience physical activity as well as developing positive relationships with other students. Mr Green and Mrs Bartlett organize the sports on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon and had a full enrolment for term one. Mrs Duncan is organizing a ‘GATEWAY” program agribusiness trip to Farmfest this term for the year four and five students. The concept for the program is to expose the multitude of agribusinesses to our students to allow them opportunities to explore future careers within the rural sector.
P-10 State Schools offer a great alternative to having the young year six students enter the larger environments of high schools. Looking forward to another successful term at Jandowae. Tony Bartlett, Principal
Another school project that all staff have been involved with concerns creating optimal opportunities for students to improve in the areas of literacy and numeracy. It is termed the “Great Results Guarantee” and our school has acquired specific resources in the form of books, teacher aide, extra support teacher time and technology to assist us with our goal to maximize opportunities for our students. Coupled to this state-wide initiative, we are also readying our transition for year six students into secondary school in 2015. This project is described as the Flying Start program. Our school already has the infrastructure in place to cater for the transition; however, a specially designed classroom has been constructed to cater for this group of students. Livestock Biosecurity Biosecurity is becoming a significant issue for primary producers in the Western Downs and our nation at large. Karen Huskisson of Wattle Downs Merino and Poll Merino Stud at The Gums is a Director on the Agforce Sheep and Wool Board. In this role Karen has been trained as a Biosecurity Industry Liaison Officer in not only sheep and wool but all biosecurity issues that have the potential to affect primary producers. Karen has developed a broad knowledge of issues through her roles as the President of the Queensland Merino Stud Sheepbreeders Association, a member of the National Wild Dog Action Plan Committee, a delegate on the Australian Association of Stud Merino Breeders, a committee executive of Leading Sheep, a coordination of the Moonie Weed and Pest Group, a member of Southern Inland Queensland Regional Committee of Agforce and also the Transport Committee. These roles have given Karen a comprehensive knowledge in the issues that arise under the banner of Biosecurity and assist her in understanding all industries of primary producers. Karen recommends that all properties should have a Biosecurity Property Plan to assist them with their personal management of any risks or hazards that have the potential to harm their livestock or business. Biosecurity hazards do not only appear as animal diseases; they can come in all shapes and forms including: •
Weeds: Vehicle access to properties can pose a threat of transferring weeds, this hazard has become more common especially with the current active oil and gas exploration where a high risk of Biosecurity issues arise with vehicles entering and exiting properties. Some properties and paddocks have been rendered unusable due to the spread of African lovegrass and other inedible grasses and weeds.
•
Feral Animals: These animals can transfer catastrophic diseases to our livestock, for example: wild dogs spread diseases such as parvo, distemper and neosporum caninum which specifically causes early abortion in cattle; feral pigs can spread leptospirosis as well as acting as a carrier for various worms and other minor diseases.
•
Fodder: Importing and exporting contaminated feed from properties and factories also poses a risk of transporting poisonous and inedible plants like Patterson’s curse, parthenium weed, mother of millions and stremoneum
•
Photo: Karen Huskisson of Wattle Downs Merino and Poll Merino Stud at The Gums is a Director on the Agforce Sheep and Wool Board, and has been trained as a Biosecurity Industry Liaison Officer. •
Transporting Stock: The importation of stock from interstate can aid in the contraction ovinejohnes/bovinejohnes disease. It is a national regulation that all stock transported interstate must travel with a National Health Statement and sheep should travel with a Sheep Health Statement supplied by the owner or seller to the buyer. It is recommended that all purchases of livestock should check the stock entry requirements for their specific state and their role as a purchaser.
With these extras hazards posing risk to your livestock it is essential to incorporate a Biosecurity Property Plan in your management procedures to ensure the farm’s optimum viability status. Your local Biosecurity Industry Liaison Officer can assist you with accessing information on contamination, disease and creating a Biosecurity Property Plan.
Karen says there are specific chains of action that must be taken should you find health status issues within your livestock. Firstly, you would need to contact your regular vet. If the vet is unable to explain the illness or if the issue is that of a biosecurity nature your vet must contact the Principal Veterinary Officer who will then inform the Chief Veterinary Officer of Queensland. From Straying Stock: Stock that are inadequately contained on their property here you can be put in contact with your local Biosecurity Industry Liaison of origin pose one of the greatest risks and can spread disease at a Officer who can assist with facilitation of communication and explanation phenomenal rate while having a detrimental impact on viability of between the authorities and you as the farmer on a confidential basis. livestock production. The Magic Hour Tuesday 3rd June 2014, 7.30pm Thought you knew Grimm’s fairy tales? Think again. Little Red Riding Hood meets Trainspotting in this wicked retelling of classic bedtime stories. Helpmann Award winner Ursula Yovich (Australia, Jindabyne, Redfern Now, The Secret River) plays a cast of sideline female characters from traditional fairy tales such as, Cinderella’s ugly stepsister, Red Riding Hood’s Grandmother and Rapunzel’s captor, who’ve been dropped into the gutters and alleyways of bleak Australian life. From one of Australia’s most original contemporary playwrights, Vanessa Bates, The Magic Hour is a gutsy one-woman comedy told with dark humour and soulful song. A night of stories told at twilight with werewolves and a touch of magic… Unsuitable for people under 14 years of age

Pets
Why Should I Desex My Female Pet? We recommend desexing all female dogs and cats that are not valuable breeding animals. Why is it that vets are so intent on sterilising female animals? 1.
No Unwanted Pregnancies (puppies and kittens)
Some of these are hard to re-home, and often get dumped. At the clinic we have to euthanase some of these. 1.
Prevents Uterine Infection (Pyometron)
Desexing your pet eliminates the chance of your pet getting “Pyo”. Infections often happen in older animals that have not had litters for some time. “Pyo” is a life threatening condition that requires emergency surgery. 1.
Decreases the chance of Mammary (breast) Tumours
Desexing your pet when it is six months old, before the first heat, almost eliminates the chance of developing breast cancer. 1.
Decreases Wandering Behaviour
When pets are on heat they will actively seek a mate, wandering out of your yard. Wandering greatly increases the risk of your pet being hit by a car, attacked by another animal or even shot. Speying animals is a routine procedure that is done daily by vets. It involves a checkup, general anaesthetic, surgery (ovariohysterectomy) and a night in hospital. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact the clinic. Bell Vet Services

Last month, I discussed the dangers of synthetic preservatives in our food and personal care products and the links they have with illnesses and diseases. I also talked about the benefits of using certified organic products and how small changes can really prolong your life and benefit your health. If you missed this column, then you can find a copy of it on the Western Downs Magazine website in the April edition of the ‘Miles Lily’. This month, we put the spotlight on castor oil, one of the best kept secrets in the world of natural cosmetics and beauty products. A key ingredient in a number of personal care products, castor oil is a deep skin healer and contains strong therapeutic qualities. Sometimes used to assist in pregnancy, castor oil has a bit of a sour reputation as a result of its taste and mouth feel, which is said to be like drinking a thick oil, or even vaseline. Thankfully there are other options if you don’t want to swallow it, but you will have to put it on your skin. Castor oil is one of the key ingredients in some lip glosses because of its fantastic healing and rejuvenating properties. Here are five very good reasons why it pays to apply it to your skin: 1. Because it has a low molecular weight, castor oil is easily absorbed into the skin, helping to nourish and moisturise. It is particularly effective when it comes to the prevention and treatment of wrinkles. 2. Castor oil has been used for thousands of years as a face cream to help reduce dark under-eye circles. 3. It is rich in ricinoleic acid, a powerful antimicrobial agent which can help fight skin infections, as well as aid in the healing of minor cuts and scratches. 4. Ricinoleic acid also possesses pain relieving properties. This makes castor oil ideal for the treatment of arthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions, as it can help lubricate joints, reduce pain and increase circulation. 5. Because it is easily absorbed, castor oil has the ability to reach the deeper organs of the body. For this reason, it has long been used by ayurvedic practitioners to help break down blockages leading to water retention and weight gain. Chantahl Stedman

Treating the Common Cold With Common Sense This is the time of year when we start coughing and sneezing our way into pharmacies and doctors surgeries. Most of us will get a cold this year; those of us who are particularly ill- prepared or at high risk, might even get the flu.So now is the time to take precautions. Everyone over the age of 65 should have a yearly flu vaccine; and it’s available free from your GP. Whatever your age, if you have a chronic condition, such as heart or kidney disease, diabetes, asthma or bronchitis, the vaccine is well advised. Check with your doctor or pharmacist for more information. The common cold will be much more common and it’s unlikely any of us will avoid at least some of the symptoms. Remember, however, that relief of symptoms is all we can realistically offer. A cure for the common cold is still a long way off. Of course, being physically fit will mean we’re better able to cope with the ever-changing cold virus. A diet rich in fruit and vegetables, adequate rest and appropriate exercise are the best cold prevention strategies. You’ll find plenty of preparations for the relief of cold symptoms on pharmacy shelves this winter; but you might benefit from some advice from your pharmacist before you self select. The shotgun approach of the multiingredient cough/cold day/night products is not always the best option. High doses of vitamin C may reduce the severity and duration of cold symptoms, but daily doses greater than 2g can cause stomach cramps and diarrhoea. Similarly, clinical studies of Echinacea have found that some preparations of the Echinacea purpurea variety might have modest benefit, but there is no clear evidence of benefit with other preparations and no evidence of benefit at all in children. Topical decongestants (such as nasal sprays) are generally more effective than oral decongestants, but their use should be limited to a maximum of five days to avoid rebound congestion. The older anti-histamines will help dry up a runny nose but can cause sedation. The saline sprays such as Fess and Narium avoid the risk of rebound congestion and are an especially good alternative for children and infants.
relief of aches and pains and nasal congestion; and anti-inflammatory, antibacterial or anaesthetic lozenges like Strepfen may give some soothing relief to a sore throat. A winter sniffle is not always caused by a virus. Cold symptoms can sometimes be confused with the symptoms of hayfever. Hayfever is a year round problem in most parts of Australia, so a little “differential diagnosis” might be necessary to help you choose the right product.
Simple pain relievers such as Panadol or Nurofen with or without the Sharon Baker decongestant pseudoephedrine will sometimes be helpful for the short term Jandowae Pharmacy

Notices Green Thumb Express CALL FOR POTTED PLANTS FOR DROUGHT GARDENS - ANY TYPE, ANYWHERE IN QLD (except fire ant restricted areas, sorry). In order to help people whose garden’s have been hurt by the drought, the Green Thumb Express is asking you to pot up something from your garden or purchase some drought tolerant plants from your local nursery. “Green Thumb Express began when our creek ran dry during this drought and I had to stop watering my garden for the first time in 32 years. Ladies in our area were discussing how many people had either run out of water, had to change to harsh bore water as well as cope with record temperatures this summer in the middle of this devastating drought. I live near Windorah in western Qld and we have been drought declared since June 2013. We came up with the idea that if people were willing to pot plants and donate cuttings/plants then it would go a long way to helping those who have lost all or part of their garden when the drought finally breaks. And so Green Thumb Express was born.” - Gay Tully, Windorah SW Qld. (Facebook name Marina Tully). There is currently a run scheduled for early May, so any donations of plants will get to the people who have registered their gardens in need of revival after the drought – Mitchell, Mungallala, Charleville, Tambo, Quilpie and Windorah. That is just on this run. There will also be a run from Warwick/Goondiwindi west to St. George and Cunnamulla. We will be looking to do other runs up until end of September 2014, which will be the end of the collection and distribution of plants. We are encouraging each community to make the most of the idea and get their own communities and garden groups on board. See what’s happening by checking the Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ greenthumbexpress. The local coordinator for this project is Kay Blanch - please drop off plants or contact her at: “Glenfillan” 2557 Jandowae – Kingaroy Road, Jandowae 4410. Ph: 0746 686165 or 0417 789 719. Kay Blanch
