JANDOWAE CRAZY COLOUR RUN AND WATER FUN 2016 Wow what a fantastic day the Jandowae Crazy Colour Run & Water Fun 2016 event was! Saturday 22 October saw 160 colour run enthusiasts of all ages tackle the 2km running/walking track at Jandowae Showgrounds. The track featured many obstacles never seen before, like the phenomenal Climbing Wall designed by local personal trainer Greg Pharoah. Congratulations to the Team Relay (time challenge) winners Jake and Beau Cosgrove from Dalby. Some of the visitors who participated said that it was the BEST Colour Run they have ever been to - awesome feedback for Jandowae! Greg and the Organising Committee successfully designed a track to accommodate and really challenge kids and adults alike, with plenty to keep spectators entertained all afternoon. The bar, delicious pulled pork, and roast beef and gravy rolls, and dessert smorgasbord were perfect for dealing with the unexpected chilly weather, proving a huge hit, with all food sold out by 8pm!! JANDOWAE UNITING CHURCH NEWS

JANDOWAE KINDY Jandowae Kindergarten Excursions

The Leichhardt Patrol is not a “congregation” in the traditional sense, but rather an initiative of the Uniting Church that provides pastoral care to rural properties as well as regional congregational bodies. The Patrol covers part of the area known as the Surat Basin taking in Taroom in the north through to Goondiwindi in the south as well as areas east and west of the Leichhardt Highway, a total of 52500 square kilometres. Rev. Graham Slaughter is the Patrol Minister and is based in Chinchilla. Our Ladies Fellowship is helping the Leichhardt Patrol in a practical way by providing bottled drinking water on a regular basis to Rev. Slaughter who in turn passes it on to people whose water supplies have been polluted due to resource activities in parts of the region. Well done, Uniting ladies. Jandowae Uniting Church holds a service every Sunday morning at 8.00am. We extend a special invitation to anyone who would like to come along and join us. Coral Brownhall (Photo: Daph Polzin and Wendy Hill of the Jandowae Uniting Church Ladies Fellowship loading bottled water for delivery to Rev. Graham Slaughter, Leichhardt Patrol.)

Both kindy groups recently enjoyed an excursion to Lower Jinghi Road Creek. The children were able to explore their surroundings, ask questions, imagine and initiate their own investigations. We observed many cracks in the banks. One child thought that this could have been from “lava”. On our walk we came across many footprints, feathers and animal homes. When the children ask questions and address it themselves, that’s when the brain is getting extra stimulation. We know the brain is growing rapidly at this time and making lots of new connections for life. On Tuesday 30th August, we made our way up to the Jandowae Domiciliary for shared morning tea, singing and bingo. We really enjoyed giving and receiving many smiles, nods and even claps while we were there. Thanks very much for having us and we’ll see you again soon! Your Kindy Teachers

Jandowae C&K Kindy is currently taking enrolments for 2017 if you have children between 3yrs old and pre-prep age! Our lovely community-run kindy is affiliated with C&K (Creche and Kindergarten) and provides a wonderful, supportive ‘learning- through- play’ based environment for littlies. We are located in Warra Street, in the Jandowae Showgrounds Community Precinct , are the only kindy within 40km, can offer places to children from 3yrs of age, and also provide a ‘Country Casuals’ scheme. Please speak to our Kindy Teacher/Director Miss Courtney Webster regarding the range of programs we offer and fee schedules (don’t forget to mention it if your family has a healthcare card). We have a lot of children transitioning to Prep in the new year – so the perfect time to begin making arrangements for your little ones if they are keen to come along to kindy in 2017 (1 day/ wk for 3 yr olds – up to 5 day fortnight for pre-Prep children). We also accept children throughout the year, if places are available. Please feel free to make an appointment with Courtney to visit our kindy, check out our fantastic new building and huge range of resources and play equipment, and to discuss your child’s particular needs/circumstances. PH: (07) 46 685 655 We look forward to meeting you and your little ones! Jandowae Kindergarten

JINGHI VALLEY CWA NEWS

WHY SHOP LOCALLY? When you support locally owned businesses, you’re not only supporting the local economy and the employment of local people. You are also directly supporting your local sporting groups and your local community in general. There are many studies that indicate that shopping locally has major economic benefits for your local community as evidenced by the chart. So when you spend $100 at a local business, on average 58% more of your money stays in your community compared to what would have happened if you spent that $100 at a multinational company based store. Overall, it is important to shop locally to encourage the health and sustainability of your local community. You will also be encouraging community engagement whilst creating long term relationships and promoting loyalty within your community. By shopping locally and allowing local businesses to thrive you will also be indirectly helping with local tourism, as visitors are more likely to visit our local area if there are distinct and individual shops to visit. The weekend commenced with the free Children’s coaching clinic held on Friday morning Students from Jandowae P-10 State School attended the clinic. These children, from Year 4 – 10, had completed 5 week blocks of basic golf lessons leading up to the Clinic. Friday afternoon was a 9- hole Ambrose where Sponsors of our event were invited to a social game of golf with some of the Professionals. Thanks to members Merv, Ken and Ruth who organised the Calcutta on the night and also to John Kirsner, (ProfessionalGolfer) who auctioned off the groups. Early Sunday morning saw the temperature rise a degree or two and the wind drop. Golfers again hit off at 7.00am and Midday. The top group of Professionals teed off at midday. Some of the professional golfers arrived in Jandowae up to 1 week before this event. These visitors to our town utilize our town’s facilities and shops. This event brings golfers and their families together, enjoying the camping and camaraderie not seen at other events. The Jandowae Golf Club wishes to thank our Greenkeeper, Mr G Jorgenson and his many helpers for preparing the course in order to host this event. A lot of the golfers mentioned that the course was in excellent condition this year. The Club also wishes to thank all sponsors for their generous donations to the Pro Am, and also

to all members for their help in so many ways. This event would not be able to be held if not for the generous sponsorship and help we receive. Jandowae Golf Club is one of the smallest Clubs to host the tour, and holding a 2 day competition. Our Club has to raise $24,000 each year for the prize money for the Professionals. This is a huge effort for such a small Golf Club. Our club has won the inaugural “The Best Pro Am in Australia” as voted for by the Professional players in 2008. As a Club we are justifiably proud of this. Great hospitality and home cooked sweets keep the Professional players coming back each year, with many of them having their favourite cakes or slices. The Jandowae Golf Club has also been compared to the famous Augusta Golf Course in America by a Professional golfer and was published in 2015 in an Australian Golf Magazine. The Jandowae Golf Club acknowledges the Western Downs Regional Council Events Grant received from them.
