Five things every business owner must do to protect their computer system Technology is an incredible tool for any business. However, if you are not using or protecting your computer systems properly, you might be putting your business at significant risk of suffering lost time and dollars. If you are a small to medium sized enterprise, with a business computer system in place, here are five things you must do: 1. Set recovery goals. So many businesses underestimate just how important their data backup and restore systems are. We recommend creating backups daily using reliable and automated software. Some businesses may want to keep monthly archives as well. You must monitor it regularly to check that it’s working. 2. Do your updates. Why do I need a Blue light filter on my spectacle lenses? One of the more recent exciting advancements in spectacle lens has been the application of selective photo-protective coatings. These reduce the risk of the development of AMD (age related macular degeneration) and cataracts. By selectively blocking Blue-Violet light and UV to the level equivalent to SPF 25 sunscreen, such coatings have been shown to slow retinal cell death by up to 25% (Retinal Pigment Epithelium).

Violet end of the spectrum, this bandwidth is also present when indoors. In fact the proportion of Blue-Violet light absorbed by the eye is often higher indoors due to recent uptake of devices such as computers, tablets and smart phones and incorporate LED lighting in their displays.

The product that I endorse is the market leading Crizal Prevencia, offered by our laboratories partner Essilor. This coating is recommended for everyone, especially patients with a family history of AMD, children and adults above 45 While the sun emits plenty of light in the Blue- years old.

QUEENSLAND BARREL RACING ASSOCIATION KICKS OFF IN 2015

2015 will see the debut of the Queensland Barrel Racing Association. The Association is currently based on the Darling Downs and will be run under the 4 Divisional concept that is growing fast in Australia. 2015 President, Wade Burgess of Tara, said, “In its foundation year, we plan to run events at Dalby, Kogan, Chinchilla, Warwick and Bundaberg and are looking into other arenas as well, to expand and grow as more promoters of the sport approach us.” The Association was formed to fill a hole for Western based riders, who found travelling to the Coast to have the opportunity to compete was just too costly, with most riders having a minimum of a 4 hour one way trip. With events now based closer to home, we will have more accessible events to attend, our horses will stay fresher and the travel will not be as hard on them. Barrel horses are extreme performing

horses so the chance to lessen the travel is a blessing. This is an exciting time in the growth of the sport of Barrel Racing and we are aiming at promoting the sport to Junior riders, which will take our sport into the next generation, with the focus being on the Under 5’s, 5 to 10 years and Juniors up to 17 years. Anyone wishing to find out more about the Queensland Barrel Racing Association can go online to www. queenslandbarrelracingassociation.webs.com, with events kicking off in Dalby on March 7 and culminating in October at the Finals, which will also be held in the Dalby Indoor Arena. Riders of all levels are catered for, taking Barrel Racing into the future. Shelly Frame

A New School Year… Summer holidays might be at an end, but the sun is still strong, so get into the habit of putting sunscreen on your kids before they leave for school in the morning. While barrier type sunscreens, such as zinc, start working straight away, the others need to be applied 15 minutes before sun exposure to allow them time to work. The maximum protection is SPF50 and well recommended. Ego, the Australian skincare company, has a range of sunscreens which should be part of the daily routine for all of us and help protect against both UVA and UVB rays, and hence fight against the ageing effects of the sun. The other thing that seems to be a problem right now is head lice. We saw a surge in this over the holidays, which was unfortunate. Hopefully, everyone has it well under control now before school starts. The instructions on the chemical based treatments always say to use these treatments on dry hair only, but we recently learned that they are more effective if the hair hasn’t been washed in the last 24 hours. Follow up treatments should

be done on days 7 and 14 to ensure they are eradicated. We see less resistance to the newer remedies such as oil based ones that suffocate the lice. We have also had success with Full Marks solution, a new one which causes the lice to dehydrate and die. Always follow the instructions carefully. It is also a good idea to use a preventative spray such as Quit Nits defence or MOOV defence spray on a daily basis to discourage them. With the little ones just starting school, don’t forget to emphasise good hand hygiene throughout the day, such as washing hands after using the toilet and after playing outside. Not only does this help stop the spread of germs, it also makes for neater bookwork. Children also need to be reminded not to share drink bottles, nor hats. Sharon Baker Jandowae Pharmacy

I was born in an era where the computer was just becoming a necessity in every household. By age 13, I was a dedicated internet user with the belief this thing was a productive source to spend my time on. When I was born, a terrorism attack would never be heard of or thought to occur in Australia. By the time I was 16, the first siege had occurred and I was left wondering what can I do to ensure this doesn't occur again. By combining my productive use of the internet with my passion for world peace I was selected as a Social Media Correspondent, for the ‘World Peace Caravan’.

If you are a sceptic of the possibility of World Peace being a realistic goal, let me ask you; 1. Have you ever heard of a movement like the ‘World Peace Caravan’? 2. If so, did you actively participate in it? 3. Are you involved in a project related to achieving the United Nation Goals? 4. Do the Youth think the same they did 20 years ago?

So what is the ‘World Peace Caravan’?

The ‘World Peace Caravan’, is a one-of-a-kind World Peace project and because of that it holds the very real possibility of achieving World Peace. It gives everyone the opportunity to actively take part, through the ‘Pearls of Wisdom’ project, Cease Fire Petition and by using the hashtags #WPC2015 and #Passion4Peace. These hashtags serve the purpose of encouraging everyone, the Youth in particular to share via social media, their views and personal missions towards achieving World Peace and the United Nations Goals. These posts incorporating the hashtags will then be shared through out the world via myself, and my team of ‘World Peace Caravan Social Media Correspondents’. The ‘World Peace Caravan’ goes further then just focusing on World Peace, it incorporates education and encouragement to solving the United Nations Goals; 1. Eradicate poverty and hunger, 2. Achieve universal primary education, 3. Promote gender equality and empower women, 4. Ensure environmental sustainability, 5. Attain healthy lives for all, and 6. Reduce inequality within and between countries.

“The World Peace Caravan is a global movement to provide a unique multi-cultural experience in which people of all faiths, ethnicities and backgrounds can come together through journeys, events and online to embrace our similarities as well as differences while promoting respect, compassion and a greater understanding for one another. Over 3,000 years ago, the Queen of Sheba led a 750 camel caravan over the Ancient Frankincense Trail to carry her peace offerings on her ships of the desert to King Solomon in Jerusalem. On a grand quest for peace today, The World Peace Caravan invites the castlebuilders and peace advocates of the world to come together in December 2015 for a 12day caravan that will retrace the steps of this legendary early peace movement.

If you answered no to any of these questions, that is the exact reason why World Peace is still a strong, realistic goal!

Bell Show 2015

f

2015 Bell Show is just around the corner and is gearing up to be another big year. The committee has been working very hard over the last 12 months to bring together another successful show for all the family to enjoy. Our favourites are back again this year including Woodchop, Sheep and Cattle Events, Horse and Ring Events, Grand Parade, Sideshow Alley, Kids Alley, Team Penning and Pavilion. Under the Guidance of the newly formed Bell Junior Show Committee the “Where the Hell’s Bell Ute, Bike and Classic Car Muster” will kick off on Saturday morning alongside the Ron Lloyd Memorial Car Rally with lots of cash and prizes to be won. This is the second year the car rally will take place and hoping the $1000 grand prize will entice new participants. One of the big draw cards for this year’s show will be the Saturday night entertainment where patrons can dance the night away to Mick Lindsay and Band. Mick will be performing from 7pm until late in the evening where the licensed bar will keep dancers hydrated. Mick is looking forward to coming to Bell and see what this little town is all about. Sunday will see our Rodeo kick into gear from 9am and will have events such as Barrel Racing, Open Steer Ride, Junior Steer Ride, Bronc Saddle Ride and much more. Our Rodeo is also under the QRA Point Scoring for the more serious competitors. Sideshow Alley and Team Penning will be in action on Sunday giving families plenty to see and do. As we get closer our Facebook page will be the place to go to get regular updates and new announcements as we get closer to the show. Casey Laffy

Free women’s health clinic visits Miles Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service mobile women’s health nurse, Barbara Milne, will conduct a clinic at the Miles Hospital on Friday, 6 February, from 9.30am to 1pm. The service is free and confidential and is available to all women. “A pap smear every two years can prevent the most common form of cervical cancer in up to 90 per cent of cases and is the best protection against cervical cancer,” Mrs Milne said. “All women who have ever had sex should start having pap smears between the ages of 18 and 20 years, or two years after first having sex, whichever is later.”

Noonga Notes NOONGA COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS TREE Santa didn’t forget to drop into the Noonga Hall on Saturday, 13th December, to wish locals and children all the best for the holiday season. Arriving on the back of a “trusty Ford ute” and ringing a bell for all, including cows, to hear, Santa distributed presents and posed for the obligatory photo. The BBQ was then cranked up and the tables groaned under delicious salads and desserts.

YOUTH ACTIVITIES – TENNIS CAMP TO BRISBANE In the last Noonga Notes, I wrote that a group of Noonga Youth was travelling to Brisbane to partake in a Tennis Camp with the assistance of Arrow Energy and QCWA. Well, they went, they saw and they had a great time, not only at tennis which was at The Gap Health and Racquet Centre, but also at trampolining at “Bounce”, discovering the Science Centre and Museum, experiencing train travel and enjoying several meals together. We would all like to thank the QCA for their support and would highly recommend staying at Ruth Fairfax House, not only for the proximity to the city, but for clean, large, self-contained rooms with the dining room option.

Thank you, Polly Leahy, for all your hard work, not only in obtaining the sponsorship from Arrow, but for organising a great few days of Above: Charlie with Diedree walker Corey Marnie and activities. Payton Leahy James Sinnamon Matthew Sharpe and Santa Fiona Sinnamon last year.

Mrs Milne also provides a range of other services, including breast awareness and sexual health testing as well as advice for issues such as continence, menopause, contraception and general wellbeing. For more information or to book, phone (07) 4628 5600. Darling Downs Hospital & Health Service

Tara Cricket Results All four teams converged on the small community of Teelba, some 50km south-west of Glenmorgan, for the second instalment of the Teelba Big Bash. This year’s event held greater significance as it was the inaugural “Tim Simmonds Memorial Mug”, in memory of the Meandarra player and Teelba local who was tragically taken too soon last April. It was an emotion charged day for Tim’s family and friends, but the ‘big fella’ would have been in his element, gold can in hand and plenty of ears to chew. In a special tribute, Tim’s brothers, Matt and Dan, took to the field, while his father had the honour of bowling the first ball of the second match.

penultimate over to get Condamine across the line, well supported by Archie Attwooll at the other end. Unlike Condamine, Tara’s fielding and bowling left a bit to be desired, dropping a couple of crucial catches. Greg Chappell was the pick of the bowlers taking 2 for 20 off 3 overs, while Jeff Wade, Micky D Dillon and Matthew Prain each picked up a pole. The afternoon game saw Meandarra and Moonie face off, with both teams desperate for a win. After winning the toss and batting, Moonie started poorly, losing Pete Fourie for a duck in the second over. This bought Brad Baker to the crease, and together with Seph Gleeson, they pummelled the Meandarra attack, combing for a 100 run stand in 10 overs when Gleeson was caught spectacularly on the boundary by Ryan McDonald for 36. Brad Baker retired for an aggressive 40 soon after, to leave Moonie at 2/120 off 12 overs. The punishment didn’t stop there for Meandarra though, as Lachlan Cossart strode to the crease, smashing seven 4’s and two 6’s to also retire at 40. In a special moment, the Simmonds’ brothers (Matt 23 & Dan 20) ended the Moonie innings with a 50 run stand, showing plenty of potential to see Moonie reach an imposing score of 192 off their 20 overs. Fair to say, the Meandarra bowling figures weren’t pretty, but Sonny Power, Jon Penfold and Sean Grams took a wicket apiece.

The first game was between ladder leaders, Tara and Condamine. Batting first, Tara made steady progress, scoring at about 6 runs an over. Jeff Wade was the first out for 15, followed soon after by Matthew Prain for 16 to see Tara at 2 for 50 after 8 overs. Allan Bougoure (17), Matthew Hallinan (14) and Greg Chappell (17) all made handy contributions, but the loss of regular wickets meant Tara was restricted to 150 from its 20 overs. Whilst wickets were falling, Anton Fitzgerald batted well for Tara, making 43 retired. Condamine bowled and fielded well as a team, with Sam Taylor picking up 2 for 21 off his four overs. Guy Campbell also picked up two late wickets and was well supported by Dillon Hamilton and Lox Blackett who claimed a victim Needing the best part of 10 runs an over, each. Meandarra needed a good start, and this was Condamine’s innings started well, racing to 50 delivered when a tactical decision by Moonie to off just 6 overs before Guy Campbell was out for open with spin back-fired, allowing Meandarra 13. Sammy Taylor was hitting the ball to all parts to smash 30 off the first 2 overs. Ryan Burrowes and was unlucky not to retire, out for 37. Henry (15) and Gary Becker (3) both lost their wickets Brodie batted with class to guide Condamine trying to keep pace with the run rate. At the to within 20 runs of victory when he retired other end, Jon Penfold was building a steady for 40. In a tense last couple of overs, it was innings, and he combined with Brendan Darren McTigue (14 n/o) who blasted 10 off the Hatherell to take the score to 75 before he was

out for 30. Hatherell was then joined by Sean Grams and together, these two took the Moonie innings apart, scoring at will to set up victory for Meandarra. Hatherell’s innings of 41 retired contained seven fours and two sixes, while Grams smashed five sixes and two fours before he retired also. Keith Logan (25), Daniel “Webby” Keene (17) and Craig Emery (13 n/o) saw Meandarra pull off one of the more remarkable run chases in recent times, reaching the total with 10 balls to spare. Moonie’s bowlers also went the distance, but Matt Simmonds and Pete Fourie both grabbed two wickets each. In scoring the most runs for the day, Meandarra were fittingly awarded the inaugural “Tim Simmonds Memorial Mug” which was drunk from with gusto in memory of their much admired and missed team mate. With wins to Meandarra and Condamine, the table still sees Tara on top on 26 points, Condamine and Meandarra are now both on 16 points having had their bye, while Moonie, 14 points, needs to start winning if they are to make the top two.
