Evanston IL: 2001 Description: Algebra II expands on knowledge of the three key aspects of equations, graphs, and applications from Algebra I together combined with more rigorous use of variable abstraction. Materials: In addition to the textbook each student should have pencil, paper, and a calculator. Course Objectives:     

Develop Mathematical Vocabulary to help us understand relevant information Solidify previously covered material and apply math to real-life applications Prepare students for more advanced understanding of algebraic abstraction Develop skills and confidence in variable problem solving, equations, and graphs Explore this wonderful world of ours through applied variable solutions

Graded Criteria  Quizzes & Tests  In-class & Homework

Quizzes & Tests: Tests will be given over material in the text, as well as any additional information covered in class. They will consist of Chapter Tests and other tests/quizzes given during the semester. All mathematics is comprehensive. In-Class & Homework: Homework is not meant to be a punishment, but an opportunity to practice. It will be assigned and collected weekly as a minimum. This type of work emphasizes process over answers; so some of this grade will simply be an assessment of effort and commitment. Odd-numbered problems are for you to work until you get the answer given in the text. Classroom Participation: We all come to learn from each other and will respect each other. Do not let your behavior limit another’s learning. Disruptive actions do this directly; non-participation does it indirectly. Make-up Work :

Make-up work may be available for extended absences.

Major Assumptions o You can only learn math by doing math. o Honest effort and doing your own work is more important than the ‘right’ answer. o Problem solving is never accomplished without reaching a point of not knowing what to do, struggling with that, and overcoming.
