Certified or licensed counselor preferred Previous college counseling experience in a high school setting
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES To model Christian commitment and faith in and out of school. To be a school leader in evangelism, discipleship, community, peace, service, social justice, and reconciliation. Actively participating in the lives students and leading them toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES Essential Job Functions: 1. Provides group and individual advising for students in grades 6-12 in areas of academic needs, college preparation, inter-personal skills, work ethics, life skills, and career literacy 2. Guides students in selecting academic/career goals that honor individual strengths and interests 3. Works with Registrar to advise all high school students for classes in alignment with academic/career goals 4. Refers students/parents to on-campus resources and community agencies 5. Coordinates comprehensive guidance and advising program for grades 6-12 in collaboration with Principal, middle school science teacher (STEM) and curriculum committee 6. Teaches Career Education courses for high school. Other classes may be assigned as needed.

Maintains accurate and complete student records as required by law, school policy, and follows all applicable laws and administrative regulations including Copyright, FERPA, and Mandatory Reporting 8. Builds positive/professional relationships with colleges, local businesses, and alumni 9. Schedules regular career awareness, college information, and service opportunity field trips Environment: 1. Maintains a advising office or classroom that is inviting, appropriate to the maturity and interest level of students, and is organized and orderly 2. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities 3. Assume the responsibility to discipline students whenever needed at school activities or on the school campus. When something goes to a more serious level you are responsible to send the student to the Dean of Students or inform an administrator on site 4. Take seriously the responsibility to be a positive role model for students. Give special emphasis to modeling honesty, courtesy, good grooming, being an informed citizen, respecting the law and the dignity of honest labor and any other examples which tend to develop productive and responsible members of society Community Relations: 1. Establish and maintain cooperative relations with administration, faculty, staff, students and parents 2. Be properly prepared to provide extensive information on students when requested to do so by their parent 3. Demonstrate good listening skills by considering a students or parent’s point of view; giving productive feedback that is considerate, tactful, and professional in manner 4. Be available for after school hour meetings, trainings, etc. 5. Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student conduct 6. Assume full responsibility for planning an authentic mini-term experience. This includes extensive preliminary planning with comprehensively planned activities which focus on the objectives of the mini-term. The mini-term instructor is responsible to assure that the timeline for planning and execution of mini-term is followed closely 7. Obey all laws of the State of Oregon and serve as a role model reflecting a Christian lifestyle Professional: 1. Maintain counseling certification if applicable 2. Demonstrate sincere interest in content area pursuing professional growth opportunities through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences and/or advanced course work 3. Observe ethical standards of professional conduct, including copyright laws and acceptable use of the internet 4. Deal appropriately with sensitive information and situations

Be prepared to be involved in functions outside of the classroom such as committee member, class advisor, ticket taker at basketball or volleyball games, chaperon for field trips, banquets, etc. 6.
