Coaching 2011 marks the sixth season Jeremiah Robbins has been the head baseball coach Western Oregon University baseball team. He has compiled a 175-83 record during his time at WOU, including a 114-26 record in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The Wolves have also captured the GNAC championship for five straight seasons under his leadership. Robbins is the five-time consecutive GNAC Coach of the Year. He earned the honor outright in 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010 while being named GNAC co-Coach of the Year in 2007. In 2006 he also was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writer’s Association West Region coach of the year. Robbins’ 2010 squad won the school’s 10th consecutive conference title with 28-4 record in the GNAC, which included a 23-game winning streak. In 2006, his first season at the helm, the Wolves won the GNAC title and were the No. 1 seed and host of the NCAA Division II West Region Tournament. In 2009, Western Oregon also won the right to host the regional and the No. 2 seed in the West with a 34-14 record. Robbins, who was an all-conference catcher for WOU in 1998, was the head coach at Douglas High School in 2003 and 2004. The Trojans won back-to-back Far West League titles during his leadership, and his ‘03 team reached the 3A state semi-finals. A two-time Far West League Coach of the Year, Robbins was honored as the 3A Coach of the Year in ‘04. Douglas went 24-2 and reached the state quarterfinals. Robbins was named the 2006 “AAA” Oregon American Legion Coach of the Year, when he was the head coach of the Corvallis-based Ritchey’s Market squad. The Douglas native spent the 2002 season as the head assistant coach at Lane CC, and was the leader of the Southwestern Oregon CC program in 2000 and 2001. In ‘01, he was named the south region coach of the year in the NWAACC. He has compiled a career record of 175-68 at WOU with a 86-22 record in the GNAC. Jeremiah and his wife Mareena live in Monmouth with their sons, Luke (4) and Cal (2). Matt Skundrick returns to his alma mater for his second season as the pitching coach. Last season, Skundrick mentored three Wolves’ starting pitchers to all-conference honors including GNAC Pitcher of the Year Jacob Pettit. He also instructed 2010 MLB draft picks Blake Keitzman (27th round, Colorado Rockies) and Jacob Pettit (42nd, Baltimore Orioles). Prior to entering the coaching ranks Skundrick played for the Wolves from 2005-06, and he was a two-time all-conference first team selection as infielder. He led the GNAC in homeruns (11) as a senior and tied for second in runs batted in (45). 2011 marks year number five for Kellen Walker at WOU. Walker works with the WOU infielders and is the hitting instructor. Last season, Walker coached three Wolves’ infielders to all-conference honors, after leading all four starting infielders to first team all-conference honors in 2009. Walker played collegiate for two seasons at Lassen CC in Susanville, California, twice earning all-conference honors. He then played two seasons at Point Loma Nazarene in San Diego. Sam Kirby returns for his fourth season as an assistant coach with the Wolves specializing in working with the catchers. Last season, Kirby helped Garrett Breda become a two-time GNAC all-conference catcher, and in the previous season he instructed Taylor Mieras to the honor. Prior to coming to WOU, Kirby spent the past three spring seasons as an assistant coach at Lane CC in Eugene, where he also played collegiately, helping to lead the Titans to the NWAACC title in 2004. He earned all-league honors on the field while at Lane. Kellen Hobie is in his second season as the outfielders coach for WOU. Last season, Hobie helped lead outfielders Jason Moseby and Daniel Dillard to Daktronics AllWest Region honors. Prior to coming to WOU, Hobie coached one season at Missouri Western State (2008) where he also worked with the outfielders. He then moved onto North Eugene High School and instructed the catchers during the 2009 season. Hobie’s playing experience reaches back to his roots in Oregon. He played his first two years at Lane CC and was named to the all-league first team. He then went to Missouri Western State (2006-07) to finish out his collegiate career. Cody Reeves joins the Western Oregon staff for his first season as a coach after spending the previous two seasons as an infielder for the Wolves. During his senior season, Reeves was an All-GNAC honorable mention at first base after he hit .277 with five home runs, 19 RBI, five stolen bases and a .518 slugging percentage. Reeves came to WOU after spending the previous two seasons at Spokane Falls CC. In his second season, Reeves hit .423 and tied the school’s single-season hit record with 71. In high school, Reeves was an all-state selection as a senior after earning first team all-league honors in his previous two seasons.
