Blues take a splattering for win in the mud HASTINGS and Dromana were wrestling in the mud for the ball on Saturday. Thomas Barclay Oval was a quagmire as Hastings got the upper hand in the mind games for the coming finals, managing a win in a lowscoring game 6.7-43 to 3.9-27. The Blues made the most of their opportunities, while the visitors hit the post five times. Tigers’ defender Ryan Worn was reported by three umpires for a hit on Mark Deveraux five minutes before the game ended. New jobs at port By Mike Hast THERE is movement at the Port of Hastings Development Authority after almost eight months of inaction. Flush with $4 million from the state government budget, the authority on Saturday advertised for six people, the first new staff since the authority was formed on 1 January. On Monday, acting chief executive officer Ralph Kenyon said the new staff would enable the authority to start “delivering on the state government’s
promise of expanding the port”. Oddly, Mr Kenyon has not yet been confirmed as CEO of the authority even though he is hiring six people. He was CEO of the previous iteration of the body, the Port of Hastings Corporation, before it was amalgamated with the Port of Melbourne Corporation by the Brumby Labor government. The organisation will soon move to larger premises in Hastings, although Mr Kenyon said he could not say where at this stage.
The News understands the authority is moving to the first floor of the office building on the corner of High and King streets in Hastings. The authority has been operating since the start of the year with Mr Kenyon and two staff members as well as part-time consultants. The authority was created when the Baillieu government separated the Port of Hastings from the Port of Melbourne Corporation, which the Brumby Labor government joined together in late 2010 shortly before losing office.
On page 3 of The Age on Saturday, a recruitment company acting for the authority ran a large advertisement seeking: A chief finance and accounting officer on a salary of $170,000 who will be responsible for a wide range of tasks including financial risk and auditing, human resources, occupational health and safety, and property and fleet management. A manager of strategic and business planning with responsibility for selecting and appointing consultants, and
