An up and coming designer’s take on #kaleidoscope Kayla Jurlina AUT Fashion Design Student
Growing up with a seamstress for a grandmother, it was a natural decision for me to pursue fashion design. Timeless and modern, these days my style is inspired by the likes of Rachel Zoe, Nicole Richie and Poppy Delevigne but I have always used clothing as an expression of personality. For me #kaleidoscope can be adopted by any sub-style. It’s a psychedelic trend that can be pulled together in a sophisticated or fun way so I wanted to keep it fresh, modern, and easy so that anyone could wear it.

Influenced by Japanese streetwear, my design aesthetic and personal style can be described as cool and casual with an edge. My take on this summer trend is both military chick and chic, proving this look can be tamed by fashion followers from urban jungle to the office block. Incorporating edgier items like leather and studded sneakers with the palette and patterns of #safari chic, I’ve taken this sophisticated look to the street.
