EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

CLASS OF 2012 POST GRADUATE REPORT

The Career Center at Westfield State University provides statistical reports to measure effectiveness, evaluate performance and promote transparency. Our purpose in capturing first destination, post-graduate information and compiling this report is to provide meaningful data that prospective students, parents, employers, the administration and the community can utilize. Our goal was to analyze a representative sample of the Class of 2012 to determine the post-graduation career and graduate school activities of individuals one year after graduation. We were very pleased with a 48% percent overall knowledge rate, achieved through a number of marketing initiatives and the Career Center’s tracking efforts. Knowledge rate refers to employment and graduate school information obtained through our survey, phone calling and LinkedIn efforts. Equally impressive in this economy is finding that approximately 93% percent, of those whose contact information we were able to locate, are either employed or attending graduate school. Also noteworthy, 30% percent of this group was engaged in public sector or non-profit employment, reflecting Westfield State University’s mission of assisting students to develop intellectually and to use their knowledge and skills to improve the social and economic conditions in their communities. It is exciting to see the wide range of professional activities of these new graduates. Members of the University community have worked diligently to guide and support these individuals during their undergraduate years. It is satisfying to see the outcome of these efforts as students launch their professional careers or pursue advanced study in a wide range of fields and industries. We are pleased to present our 2012 Post-Graduate Report. Using a systematic and comprehensive approach for gathering this type of data, we can examine our progress with students over time and guide future efforts on behalf of students and alumni. This project, compiled and managed by the Career Center, was truly a collaborative campus-wide effort, working closely with colleagues from Information Technology. We hope that you find this report to be informative and beneficial.

Sincerely, Junior Delgado Director, Career Center

and extensive efforts to connect through LinkedIn. In total, 344 out of the 710 graduates for whom we were able to secure contact information or track, a 48% knowledge rate, provided the information used in this report. Information gathered regarding employment, graduate studies and related factors provided very interesting and significant analyses when compiling this data.
