The Greater Haralson Chamber of Commerce serves as a catalyst for economic vitality in the community. As the county’s largest business organization, the Chamber enables member companies to promote their products and services, build professional relationships, expand their networks, develop their teams and sharpen their skills toward the goal of growth, both personal and professional.

Their marketing tools for your business include an online, searchable business directory and a news and events section on the Chamber’s website. The Chamber provides community data for members and helps provide a business-centered voice in government.

When you become a member, the Chamber offers various options for involvement, all geared toward getting your business additional recognition in the community.

The standing committees help address Chamber and member needs. These include Haralson CARES, the Junior Chamber Youth Leadership Program, Retail and Industrial Roundtables, and Workforce Development.

Members have the opportunity to participate in Leadership Haralson, an immersive leadership development program designed to empower individuals to become effective leaders and active community contributors.

In addition, Chamber members can access enhanced levels of recognition and engagement through Trustee memberships. With several levels of sponsorship available, participants receive preferred seating and complimentary tickets to certain events, discounts, marketing support and special recognition. These investment opportunities range from $1,500 to $4,500. They include donating door prizes; sponsoring leadership programs; sponsoring breakfasts, lunches, dinners and receptions; or becoming a sponsor for events such as the Annual Dinner. Investor packages include several levels: Innovator Trustee, President's Club Trustee and Legacy Leaders Trustee.

West Georgia Technical College Expands Program Offerings for Students with New Industrial Building

West Georgia Technical College is a pillar in the West Georgia community, offering over 120 associate degrees, diplomas and technical certificates of study to thousands of students across Haralson, Carroll, Coweta, Douglas, Heard, Meriwether and Troup counties.

Located in Waco and built in 2002, the Murphy Campus is Haralson County’s West Georgia Technical College campus. The Murphy campus houses general core courses, cosmetology, esthetician, medical and business programs.

Many students of nearby high schools look to West Georgia Technical College for dual enrollment opportunities either on their own high school campuses or on a WGTC campus. Dual enrollment is a large part of WGTC’s impact in the Haralson County area. Dual enrollment through WGTC allows high schoolers to take core college classes to get ahead in their journey toward post-secondary education, while simultaneously earning credits toward their high school degree. West Georgia Technical College also offers Accelerated Career Pathways. Accelerated Career Pathways allow eligible high schoolers to earn their high school diploma while concurrently earning a college Associate of Applied Science Degree (AAS), technical diploma, a Technical Certificate of Credit

With the construction of an all-new Murphy Industrial Building in Waco, West Georgia Technical College is expanding the programs offered to students. With the addition of the 45,000-squarefoot industrial building, West Georgia Technical

College will bring trade and technical programs such as WGTC’s Commercial Truck Driving, Electrical Lineworker and Welding programs to Haralson County. The new building will house a 40-booth welding lab, classrooms for the Welding, CDL and Lineworker programs, and a parking area for commuter students.

CULTIVATING Tomorrow's Workforce

Established in 1893, the Bremen City School System serves approximately 2,343 students in its four schools (Jones Elementary School, grades Pre-K through 3; Bremen Academy, grades 4 and 5; Bremen Middle School, grades 6 through 8; and Bremen High School, grades 9 through 12).

As a city school system, Blue Devil pride is instilled in students as early as Pre-K and continues through high school graduation. “Excellence in all we do,” is the purpose statement students of any age hear at Bremen City Schools, and one that is backed up by state school rankings. With a 17:1 student/teacher ratio, Bremen has a strong history of high test scores and high graduation rates.

Although not on the same campus, all Bremen City Schools sit only a few miles from one another. Bremen High School serves as the mid-point between Bremen Academy and Bremen Middle School – both are housed under the same roof – and Jones Elementary School. This close geographic distance paired with strong community ties to the school system create a tight-knit school community.

Although the majority of students attending Bremen City Schools live in the district, 27% of students live outside the city limits of Bremen and pay tuition to attend.

Bremen City Schools has no shortage of extracurricular activities. Its strong athletics program with dozens of teams is another showing of the school’s success. Backed by fierce community support, Blue Devils from every sport and at all ages are proud to wear royal blue and white for their school. Bremen also has a robust fine arts program, offering theatre, chorus, marching band, color guard, concert band and more. BHS also boasts competitive powerhouses in the BHS Literary and Mock Trial Teams.

In the area of career preparation, Bremen High School provides dual enrollment opportunities for students looking to jumpstart their post-secondary education. Bremen offers career-focused class pathways for students interested in the areas of Business Education, Healthcare Science, Engineering Technology, Forensic Science and Teaching as a Profession.

The Haralson County School System serves more than 3,400 students in the county and has a student/ teacher ratio of 13.3:1. The district teaches students in grades Pre-K to 12 in a system of seven schools (Buchanan and Tallapoosa Primary School, grades Pre-K through 2; Buchanan and West Haralson Elementary, grades 3 through 5; Haralson County Middle School, grades 6 through 8; Haralson County High School, grades 9 through 12; and Haralson County Rebel Academy, alternative education for grades 6 through 12).

All seven schools in the Haralson County School System focus on producing high-achieving students who graduate and become productive and responsible citizens. Even the youngest of Rebels are taught the Rebel Way: “We are Responsible, We are Respectful, We are Reliable, We are the Rebels!”

Located just five minutes east of Haralson County High School, Haralson County Middle School offers students 12 sports, six clubs and two fine arts programs.

Over the last few years, we have seen continual growth within the district, and more change is coming as we move forward in a progressive manner. Whether you are a newcomer to Haralson County or a longtime resident, I thank you for choosing us to educate your student. Haralson County High School students enjoy 14 campus clubs ranging from career planning clubs such as Future Business Leaders of America to faithbased clubs such as Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Students have the opportunity to show their Rebel pride through one of the 15 school sanctioned sports at Haralson County offered for grades 9-12. Haralson County also has a thriving fine arts department, offering chorus, theatre, visual arts and band programs.

Haralson County’s College and Career Academy serves as an excellent resource for high school students. The program allows students to get involved in a career field before graduation, giving valuable experience and insight on prospective careers. Haralson County College and Career Academy offers pathways in welding, automotives, carpentry, industrial systems, entrepreneurship, JROTC, health sciences, cosmetology, education, agriculture and animal science, broadcast and film, engineering, programming, and culinary arts. The program offers courses and work-based learning opportunities in which students have the opportunity to work off campus at a work placement or internship with a partner of the Haralson County College and Career Academy.

The College and Career Academy also impacts children who are just beginning their Rebel schooling with the introduction of the program’s Launch Pad Pre-K. The Launch Pad Pre-K is a full-day Pre-K through which Education Pathway students receive experience working in early childhood education under the supervision of veteran teachers.

SEALING THE Future

TydenBrooks is the global leader in tamperevident and security seals, serving more than 75 countries with over 150 patents worldwide. With headquarters in Atlanta, TydenBrooks has international offices in Asia, Europe, Africa and Latin America.

For over 150 years, TydenBrooks has led the innovation and manufacturing of security seals and anti-counterfeit technology. Tallapoosa is home to one of TydenBrooks manufacturing facilities, supplying jobs in Haralson County.

TydenBrooks Tallapoosa is investing in the next generation of talented workers right here in Haralson County by working with the Haralson County High School College and Career Academy.

TydenBrooks Senior Director of Human Resources Skye Entrekin feels strongly about partnering with schools in the area to help students find their passion and help advance industry in the Haralson County area. “When we are looking at ways to innovate, we are thinking about how students are our future,” she explains.

TydenBrooks offers apprenticeships and workbased learning programs that allow students from local schools to learn skills, earn wages and work toward their educational goals, all while acquiring valuable work experience with the company. Apprenticeships and work-based learning opportunities offered by TydenBrooks can turn

into full-time position job offers once a student has completed the program. This program aims to encourage high school students to explore their post-graduation options, all while gaining professional and personal experience.

Skye shares the importance of local businesses increasing their involvement with area school systems and West Georgia Technical College. “That is how we are going to be able to keep these students who are graduating from Haralson County and Bremen High School in this community. We want to keep that talent within Haralson County,” she says.

TydenBrooks is paving the way for other businesses to work toward providing incentives and creating more employment opportunities for Haralson County’s talented workforce to further develop our community’s industry from within.

Community Christian Council

Providing Help and Hope to Community Members in Need

The Community Christian Council is a nonprofit organization based in Tallapoosa that serves Haralson County residents. The Community Christian Council desires to provide for the spiritual, physical and financial needs of the area’s most vulnerable residents. The CCC is entirely funded by grants and community donations. The driving force of the CCC are the board of directors and the volunteers in the community who feel strongly about the service work the Community Christian Council provides.

The Community Christian Council’s largest effort is to relieve the burden of food insecurity for the most vulnerable members of the Haralson County community through serving hot meals and providing food bank services.

The CCC also has programs that include financial counseling and assistance, GED educational support, job skills and assistance. Emergency utility assistance is also available to keep families in their homes when they need help the most. All services offered by

the CCC look to empower their recipients, providing hope through difficulties.

The CCC offers a free medical clinic that provides primary care and counseling services to residents of Haralson County who meet certain criteria. To be treated at the CCC Free Medical Clinic, patients must provide proof of residency of at least six months in Haralson County, be between

Bremen Junior Woman's Club

Founded in 1994, The General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC) Bremen Junior Woman’s Club is a volunteer service organization dedicated to serving the community through various projects and programs. A member of the Georgia Federation of Women’s Clubs and GFWC, the club is dedicated to volunteer work and community service efforts to make the Haralson County community a better place to live. Bremen Rotary Club

Founded in 1954, the Bremen Rotary Club is dedicated to Rotary’s motto: “Service Above Self.”

The Bremen Rotary Club serves the entirety of Haralson County in areas such as local education, community service, international affairs and fundraising for the causes they support.

In the area of local education, the Bremen Rotary Club sponsors students from around the world to pursue their higher education at the University of West Georgia. Thus far, the Club has sponsored students from Colombia, Denmark, Hungary, Lebanon, Malaysia, Montserrat, Scotland, Sri Lanka, South Africa and Wales. The Club supports Bremen High School and Haralson County High School athletics and marching bands, as well as Bremen’s Star Student Program. Haralson County Pilot Club

Founded in Macon, Ga., by Elizabeth Leonard and 40 local business women over 100 years ago, Pilot Club International is a community-based volunteer service club. The club operates on the principles “Friendship and Service” and focuses on encouraging brain safety and health, as well as supporting caregivers. Tallapoosa Lion’s Club

Best known for fighting blindness, Lions Club International has over 1.4 million members worldwide. The Tallapoosa Lion’s Club is heavily involved in community service, providing help with eye care costs and other community needs in Haralson County. The club holds various fundraisers throughout the year, such as its annual Golf Tournament and Dogwood Dash 5K.

A 100-foot visual history fence starting in the 1700s with the Native Americans who lived in Tallapoosa, and a train park are located across the street from Standpipe Park in Tallapoosa, Ga.

The Bremen Towne Festival

The City of Bremen was settled by German immigrants, incorporated in 1883 and was named to honor the city of Bremen, Germany. Bremen is geographically well connected, with access to I-20 and rail lines through the middle of the city that go north, south, east and west. These rail lines are a significant piece of Bremen’s textile roots, as factories were built adjacent to the tracks to provide convenient access for deliveries across the United States.

Buchanan Bremen

The county seat of Haralson County is Buchanan, a city with an area of about 1 ½ square miles and a population of just under 1,000 people. At one point, the town was named Pierceville, then was incorporated as Buchanan in 1857, a namesake of President James Buchanan.

Situated on Buchanan's historic square, the iconic Old Haralson County Courthouse serves as the Buchanan-Haralson Public Library.

Bremen has a population of just over 7,000 residents and embodies and embraces the ideals of small town living, where residents show up for each other and the community.

Tallapoosa

Named for the nearby Tallapoosa River and incorporated in 1860, Tallapoosa holds a rich history that is still very much connected to the city’s identity today. Long before it was officially named Tallapoosa, the city held various other names such as Pinegrove, Pineville, and most notably, Possum Snout.

Tallapoosa still identifies with the past Possum Snout name, holding events like Christmas in Possum Snout and Tallapoosa’s largest annual event, The Possum Drop, a New Year’s Eve celebration in which a taxidermied possum, affectionately named Spencer, is lowered as the clock strikes 12 for the new year. The event attracts thousands of people and was ranked 8th in USA Today’s 2024 Reader’s Choice for Top New Year’s Eve Drops in the U.S., beating out New York City’s Ball Drop.

With just over 3,200 residents, Tallapoosa is a small, picturesque town with attractions for people of all ages and interests.

Before the town was incorporated as Waco in 1885, the city was known as Dean. With less than 600 residents, Waco is the smallest city in Haralson County by measure of population. Waco may be small, but the city has a lot to offer residents of Haralson County and beyond.

In the area of education, Waco has been home to West Georgia Technical College’s (WGTC) Murphy Campus since 2002. The Murphy Campus is an important fixture in the Waco community, serving West Georgia residents through many educational pathways.

Waco is home to The Greater Haralson Chamber of Commerce, the

epicenter of economic and business development for Haralson County. The Chamber advocates for local businesses, forges connections within the community and showcases what Haralson has to offer to tourists and visitors.

Waco’s largest and most popular event is Waco Fest, an annual celebration of the Waco community and way of life. The festival happens the second Saturday in September and attracts locals and visitors alike with its vendors, family friendly activities, arts, entertainment and parade.
