Parks Information Parks Information

The West Lafayette Parks Department is able to offer a variety of classes and programs throughout the year and community interest helps us determine which programs to offer. Cancellation policies are in place to ensure all participants know what to expect when signing up for programs.

Program Cancellation Policy

If classes are cancelled by the West Lafayette Parks and Recreation Department, we will refund all fees If you cancel your registration at least five business days before the start of the class, you may receive a refund, less a $10 00 processing fee Since decisions to offer classes are enrollment-dependent, refunds will not be granted for cancellations less than five business days from class start date Account credits are issued for refunds

Camp Cancellation Policy

Any cancellations to camp registrations must be completed by the date listed on the registration forms Camp weeks may not be dropped or transferred after the date listed, and you will be financially responsible for any remaining weeks No refunds or credits will be given for the registration fee

Preschoolers at Play Cancellation Policy

All registrations must be paid in full. Withdrawals or refunds of a single session will result in the four-session $25 discount being removed from the refund amount. Refunds will only be issued as an account credit. Families may receive a refund up until two weeks before the week that your child is registered. After the deadline, no registrations may be transferred or refunded. Make requests in writing to aconner@westlafayette.in.gov.

Wellness Center Memebership Cancellaion

Membership cancellations require written notice and must be submitted five days before the end of the month. There is no refund for cancelling in the middle of a month. All discounts for facility programs are for members only Patrons will no longer be eligible for discounts on programs such as camps, youth sports, and swimming lessons, effective the date of cancellation

Photography Notice

When you attend our events, facilities, and parks, you enter an area where photography, audio, and video recording may occur. Photos and videos will be used for the West Lafayette Parks and Recreation Department's social media pages, newsletters, program guides, website pages, and other publications.

West Lafayette Parks and Recreation strives to help everyone learn to swim and be safe around water. Teaching water safety is important to us which is why we offer high-quality swim lessons at affordable prices We can help anyone aged six months and older learn to swim with the choice of group or private lessons

WELLNESS CENTER POOL

The 170,000-gallon pool includes four 25-yard lap lanes, a walking vortex, an open swim area, and a zerodepth splash pad All children ages 5-11 are required to take a swim test Parents and guardians are required to be within arm's reach of all children less than five years of age or for any child unable to pass the swim test Parents or guardians of children less than eight years of age must remain within the Aquatics Center Please review the full list of rules posted on the wall near the tot-spot

MUNICIPAL POOL

The Municipal Pool has 3 heated pools with a 250,000 gallon capacity. In addition to the water space, there are 3 shade structures and a few picnic areas.

the baby pool is less than one foot deep the intermediate pool is 1.5 to 3 feet deep the large pool is 3 5 to 12 5 feet deep with two low diving boards This space is supervised by lifeguards

LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION

We partner with the American Red Cross for all of our lifeguard training needs. In this course, participants learn the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care. Class includes training for water rescues, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and first aid skills

WIBIT NIGHT

Join us for an evening of pool fun! The Wibit will be set up in the Wellness Center pool on Friday, April 21 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Wibit is available for an additional fee to any Wellness Center pool party package.

JUNIOR LIFEGUARD COURSES

Junior Lifeguarding introduces participants ages 1114 to the skills needed for entry to the American Red Cross lifeguarding course Participants will also assist instructors in teaching swim lessons after completing a full course week

Prerequisite Skills:

Continuous 25-yard front crawl swim

Continuous 25-yard breaststroke swim

Tread water for 1 minute

Submerge 7 to 9 feet under water

Swim Lessons Swim Lessons

WELLNESS CENTER PRIVATE LESSONS

Ages: 3 Years and Older

Private swim lessons have many benefits, such as more flexibility with scheduling, customizable goals, and accommodations for special needs Private lessons are also very helpful for anyone terrified of water or who has experienced water trauma

A request waitlist is periodically opened, please reach out if you are interested in being added

Private lessons are purchased in sets of four, 30-minute lessons. The cost is $100 for members of the Wellness Center or $125 for community members.

PAYMENTS

$40/session - Regular Municipal Lessons

$45/session - Diving Lessons

$100/private lessons (4 sessions)

Accounts must be current to register for programs and free of outstanding balances

No lessons on Labor Day; prices adjusted for the shortened week

INSTRUCTORS

All swim lesson instructors follow the American Red Cross swimming lesson program

Only staff are permitted to teach lessons

Instructors have the final say in which level each child needs to attend

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

Proper swim attire is required

Swim diapers are required for all non-toilet trained swimmers

Arrive on time for the lesson; time will not be made up for tardiness

These lessons help 3-5-year-olds learn how to develop basic swimming skills. The class focuses on getting your child comfortable with water while learning a number of skills such as blowing bubbles, kicking, and floating.

Swimmers learn front crawl, elementary backstroke, and headfirst diving safety. They are introduced to scissor kicks, dolphin kicks, and diving from the pool edge in a seated position.

SCHOOL AGE LEVEL 4/5

Ages: 6-12 year-olds

Swimmers will swim greater distances. They will learn sidestroke, submerging and swimming under water, and get an introduction to breaststroke and butterfly stroke. Front and back flip turns and shallow angle dive into deep water are also learned.

All participants need to join Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) for diving. The cost is $14.95 with the code W3Y83Y for the club name Greater Lafayette Area Diving. You must provide proof of AAU membership before or during the first lesson.

2023 Summer Camp Junior Counselor Program

Give your 13-15 year old the opportunity to grow their leadership skills with hands on experience in a day camp setting!

Allow the West Lafayette Parks and Recreation Department to host your special events with our facility and shelter rentals. From graduation parties to small weddings, or epic pool parties, we have several options to help you celebrate! All our parks are open from 8 a.m. until a half-hour after sunset unless otherwise posted.

HAPPY HOLLOW PARK

The Happy Hollow Shelters make a great choice for birthday parties and family celebrations The shelter rentals provide easy access to playgrounds, drinking fountains, restrooms, picnic tables, grills, and electricity The park contains 2 accessible playgrounds for ages 2-5 and 5-12, an open turf area, and 5 picnic shelters that can be reserved

Happy Hollow Park is approximately 81 acres in size with a dog park, one mile of paved trolley line trail for hiking, and approximately one mile of footpaths with access to Garden Street, Salisbury Street, and Rose Street

The facility is part of the Purdue Crew Boathouse and is located along the Wabash Heritage Trail immediately south of the river access facilities. MUNICIPAL POOL

The West Lafayette Municipal Pool is a great way to host a pool party in the warm summer months. The pool is open daily, weather permitting, from May 27 through August 6.

After hours private rental rates for the municipal pool are $225 (plus tax) per two-hour session for weekday use and $250 (plus tax) per two-hour session on the weekend. For information regarding rentals please call the West Lafayette Parks and Recreation office, (765) 775-5110 and read through the Rental Information Packet available online

Pool shelter rentals are available for the first time this season! At the West Lafayette Wellness Center, we are more than just a gym! Whether you're looking for group exercise classes, basketball courts, an indoor track, lap swimming, youth programs, sports, or fitness equipment, we have something for everyone

Our 8,000-square-foot wellness floor includes state-of-the-art LifeFitness equipment. The Wellness Center includes three group exercise studios and an indoor track. Each group exercise room is equipped with Fitness On Demand - a virtual fitness video library. Members can use any empty group exercise room to take part in their very own class or try our group exercise classes.

We offer more than 50 weekly classes, personal training, adult and youth and sports, childcare while you work out, and both group and private swim lessons

All members and guests need to be 14 years of age or older to come to the facility without an adult Any guests ages 14-17 need to have a parent sign a waiver each calendar year All children ages 6 weeks to age 13 need an adult age 18 or older to be with them at the facility at all times

We ask that all members and guests review our Code of Conduct prior to using the facility to better ensure a more enjoyable experience.

The $50 joiner's fee will be waived for all City of West Lafayette residents and active military. A City of West Lafayette resident is defined as one who lives in a household paying property taxes to the City of West Lafayette If an account is inactive for six or more months, a new joiner's fee will be charged with membership renewal

WEST LAFAYETTE TREE FRIENDS

The West Lafayette Tree Friends is a volunteer organization dedicated to protecting our City's trees and greenspaces They plant shade trees along public streets of the City, organize seasonal street tree pruning to ensure tree branches grow above roadways and sidewalks and complete one or two large planting projects under their Operation Re-leaf tree planting program each year

Founded in 1981, West Lafayette Tree Friends was established by adopting the original West Lafayette Trees and Landscape Ordinance. They work in cooperation with the City and property owners to enhance the beauty of the streets in West Lafayette by pruning and planting trees.

Private donations and grants finance all West Lafayette Tree Friends' initiatives. The West Lafayette Tree Friends meet on the second Tuesday of every month for Tree Friends business These monthly meetings are open to the public Sub-committees for the organization meet throughout the month Everyone is welcome to join
