July is National Parks and Recreation Month, and I could not be prouder of the West Lafayette Parks and Recreation Department staff and volunteers. Parks make lives better, and our Parks and Recreation team enhances the daily quality of life by connecting our community to the best possible programs, recreational facilities, green spaces, trails, and play spaces.
Kathryn Lozano, our Parks Superintendent, and her amazing team assist and encourage the citizens of West Lafayette be more active, connect with nature, and provide places for families to create lifelong memories. Our local parks help to protect our precious groundwater, improve air quality, and house hundreds of native plant and wildlife species.
The team manages more than 470 acres of recreational area and facilities, including the Boathouse, Lilly Nature Center, Margerum City Hall, Municipal Pool, Riverside Skating Center, and Wellness Center. Our Parks team helps to make West Lafayette a great place to call home.
I deeply appreciate ALL our parks staff for their dedication, compassion, and respect for our environment and our citizens, both young and not so young, and for showing up every day with their sleeves rolled up, ready to serve our citizens and make our parks systems one of the best in the country
Sincerely,
Mayor John Dennis
