Outdoor sports pitches There are over 15 outdoor sports pitches in Westminster, many of which are managed by CityWest Homes. They are free to use on a turn up and play basis and are great for enjoying a kick-about with friends. There are also club activities and coaching courses throughout the year.

Support for talented athletes Champions of the Future If you are a gifted or talented young athlete aged 5 to 19 you may qualify for mentoring and financial support to help you with your training.

Sports Foundation athlete bursaries and support If you compete at district, regional or national level, you could receive: • up to £1,000 funding for travel, equipment and accommodation • free mentoring and training support including athlete and performance workshops, technique enhancement sessions and nutrition, psychology and lifestyle coaching • free entry to council swimming pools, fitness suites and classes

Gifted and talented support for primary and secondary school children Schools can refer young athletes to 13-week (primary schools) or 6-week (secondary schools) training sessions to develop their sporting skills. We can also recommend clubs and activities that will help them to progress in their chosen sport.

Cycling is a great way to get around London – it’s quick, convenient, environmentally friendly and keeps you fit. And many journeys are quicker by bike than by public transport.

There is a variety of different types of walks available.

Banana Kids Camp

EDUTAIN meaning to EDUcate and enterTAIN, is a sports and arts activity programme for young people aged 8 to 13. The programme helps young people to be healthy, stay safe, enjoy and achieve and make a positive contribution to their community.

Parkour is a new and innovative sport, where you move your body from one point to another efficiently and effectively, overcoming obstacles around you.

You will be shown the techniques and moves you need to perfect the art of movement and can receive an AQA Unit 1 and/or 2 accreditation.

London’s first and the world’s largest purposebuilt outdoor managed parkour facility provides the ideal place for all ages to practice parkour in a safe environment. The site mimics an urban landscape with walls, rails and stairs for people to vault and scale.

Funded by the NHS and delivered by the Rain Trust and Living Well, Westminster Health Trainers can help you improve your health and prevent illness by offering a confidential one-to-one community-based service to help you achieve a healthier lifestyle. It focuses on healthy eating, physical activity, stopping smoking and moderating alcohol intake. Free NHS health checks are available for anyone aged between 40 to 74 in local pharmacies and GP practices. A health professional will check your blood pressure, height, weight and cholesterol levels. Mini Kickstart and Kickstart Mini Kickstart is a free six-week healthy lifestyle programme for toddlers aged 2 to 5 and their families, run by a qualified dietician and nutritionist. Volunteering, training and education If you want to become more involved in sport in Westminster as a coach or instructor, we’ve got lots of volunteering, coaching, training and employment opportunities. Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme

Sport and leisure volunteering programme

Aged 14 to 25? Why not make all the activities you are doing count towards your Duke of Edinburgh Award? Complete four challenges once a week for three to six months to achieve the award. The challenges are in four different areas:

If you are interested in becoming a coach, referee, administrator or instructor you can receive support in finding a role that matches your skills, interests and availability, along with funding for training courses and Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks.

Sports coaching courses

There is a range of training opportunities for education professionals, including Continued Professional Development (CPD) and Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT) programmes.

Join one of our free or low cost courses to help you get involved in sport.

CPD is provided by the Westminster School Sports Partnership for teachers across Westminster and includes teacher support, conferences, specific whole school INSET training and PE co-ordinator days. Other programmes available are: • • • •
